My problem with SRK’s with Akuma in SFIV is that people cross me up when I try to Anti-Air them. Instead of smacking them, I will fly right past them with fierce SRK and then get tripped or combo’d on the way down, and I have NEVER had this problem before with shotos in ST.
James: The only reason you could possibly think Akuma is “fair” in ST remix is because a) you use him, or b) you haven’t faced anyone who has made you play against his corny ass properly. He is broken, stupid, broken, and more stupid. No one else in the game has his playskool level “mixups” for 60% damage+dizzy, is impossible to jump in against, and amazing offensive runaway. There is no one that even compares, O. Sagat was a much more legitimate character than Akuma, and that’s saying a lot.
Not trying to derail the topic here. But I just wanna say ggs to the people at Monday Night Fights the other day. I still gotta figure some stuff out. But hopefully I can bring my guile game up enough to hang in the regional this sunday. I think I got the SF4 fever again!:woot:
Where? Is this just SFIV? If so good luck to the homiez but I can’t compete in this game yet, I am somewhat hardbody at remix right now but I can’t hang with anyone except scrubs at SFIV due to a low ass budget.
To continue the SFIV discussion, Nohoho posted up a Japanese matchup/tier list. This one is considerably better than the older one, where someone said Gief beat Chun 7-3 =/. Anyway here we go!
-Three way tie between Balrog, Bison, and Akuma.
-The fact that Dhalsim was rated so low.
-The fact that Chun was rated above Blanka and Rufus.
-The fact that Zangief is listed as losing to Sagat 7-3, yet has an even matchup with Akuma.
-Guile being above Fuerte.
As far as Chun’s matchups go, I agree straight across the board, except against Dhalsim. I’d say that’s 4-6 leaning towards 5-5. For everybody on the fence with SFIV, I don’t even exactly agree with some of the matchups they have listed, but the game is balanced. It’s definitely the most balanced first attempt they’ve ever had, those dudes put in work.
It sort of sad that for all the work that went into that tier list its about to go out the window and become obsolete in about 1 month. Its like a tier list for a game that existed briefly but will never exist again.
Couldnt it be said that all the characters below the top 6(or 4 with the tie i guess) are basically extremely close together? I mean it doesnt bother me that Guile or Sim or w/e is ahead of anyone because it seems like that part of the list would be based mostly on vague anecdotal knowledge
Wouldnt surprise me about Akuma/Sagat difference vs zangief. I’ve only played a little Sagat vs Gief and it completely makes the match up seem easy just on the fact that you can beat most of Giefs moves with s.roundhouse, not to mention you have some of the best fireballs in the game to get a little lead before you even start the poking game and 30%+ more health than Akuma
Wow that list is nuts. I find it absolutely insane how much the Japanese become so analytical towards matchups and what not…To them character matchups are seem to make up their tiers. Some interesting things that I’d like to chip in on:
The fact that Fuerte is still so low on the tier list.
The very interesting 3 way tie of Balrog (boxer) Bison (dictator) and Akuma
Ryu being so high
Ken and Dhalsim being so low
I don’t really agree with all the matchups here…especially the ones regarding Ryu (Blanka, Dhalsim, and Bison (dictator) to name a few). All in all, the entire list is pretty interesting in general.
I kind of take these lists with a grain of salt. I never really TRULY agree with any of the shit that these lists say…But I do get a kick out of it when people treat it as law. I just love hearing people say “Dhalsim vs Ryu is 5-5 so it’s not like Ryu has much of a disadvantage.” Knowing character matchups is important, but not as important as most people think.
I disagree, the characters below the top 6 or 4 aren’t as close as it may seem. You really have a lot of assorted flavors in there that could tear up the top 6 or 4…at the same time, I think that there is a huge difference when you talk about characters like Honda, Guile and Vega. Though I haven’t seen true potentials in these characters, I find it very unlikely that they can hang with others who are higher then them on the mid section like Ken, Rufus, Blanka, etc.
Like Mandel said though, this game has been VERY balanced…they did incredibly well on their first try. Everyone is relatively playable at all levels in this game.
One video doesn’t silence anything. There have been videos of Tatsu’s Fuerte all over the place, however Fuerte has still gotten nothing but low tier status. He’s got the power…however he doesn’t have the consistency.
Fact of the matter is that, I’m pretty sure that the Japanese think that Fuerte isn’t as reliable as most other characters are. It’s probably the same reason why they rate Ryu so high and Ken so low…they value solidity much more then they do the “wild card” aspect if you will.
But all in all, yeah that video was alright, it’ll be very interesting to see what happens to Fuerte when people begin to start realizing how to play against him.
EDIT: I thought I’d say this, it’s kind of interesting, back in October Justin Wong said that Fuerte’s run special is the best special in the game…thats a lot of clout right there
How is Zangief supposed to beat Akuma? As an Akuma only player so far, I feel I was beating some people who were superior SF4 players than myself (Korean Frank, etc) just because it was a ridiculously tough matchup for Gief. Runaway that shit down…
