SFIV Chun Li General - Fellowship of the Thigh v.2

Eh, I’ve encountered a lot of people with 3-4k pp who I think are pretty much trash. You can get a lot of points by beating scrubs. I really think anyone can get to 3k, despite the fact that people say once you get to 3 you’re “good”

4k - 5k pp is kinda hard to mantain tho

but yeah lol online

If anyone needs Chun practice on xbox, I’d be more than happy to help them level up and give tips…

xbl: iansan1ty

ill add you. hopefully we have a good connection.

Played the Chun mirror against some dude online yesterday and he tried to U2 me on my wakeup (not sure why he chose U2 for the Chun mirror). I red focused the entire Ultra.

It felt so good.

EDIT:

By the way guys, I had a namechange. I gave it a lot of thought and decided that it didn’t make sense to continue using a name that is going to be confused (for eternity) with another socal player Snake Eyez, whose name sounds phonetically the same as mine lol. Not to mention, I’m not a “top player” by any means but if I were ever to gain any sort of meaningful recognition in the FGC, I would still always be overshadowed because Snake Eyez gained fame first, regardless of who had the name longer (which I still believe is me since I’ve been SnakeAes since like '98 - I played StarCraft using this name lol). So in the eyes of the FGC I’d always be “the other Snake Eyes” since I came second.

Exvaris is a play on the Latin words ex variis, meaning “of various” to denote my wide array of interests and background. I play, and am competitive in, a lot of other types of games besides just fighters, and have a lot of outside interests as well that have shaped who I am. It seemed fitting.

How do you get a name change? I’ve wanted to change mine for the longest time lol

Dude just sign up for wnf as the artist formally known as SnakeAes

sorry but im going to call you snake anyways <3

I think U2 makes sense in the Chun mirror. Its just a matter of play style. With U2 you can approach the match more aggressively, which can be good.

I agree with Necrotrophic, while I’ll never blaim anyone for using U1 in any match up, if you’ve got the reactions to effectively use it as a punish, pretty much every character has something you can punish with it, and it does more damage then U2 even with the with damage nerf it got and the damage buff U2 got, I prefer ultra 2 in this match up. To be honest, as some one new to chun whose constantly looking to more experienced chun players for advice, I’m finding a lot of chun players just auto pick U1 against any character that has a fireball, and I don’t know that I agree with that. There are a number of things that factor into my ultra choice in every match up. In the case of a chun-li mirror, sure she has a fireball but, for one thing, its not a great fireball and thus my ability to “remove it” from her arsenal once I have charge and ultra meter isn’t that big of a win in my book. Conversely, the ability to tack on a decent chunk of extra damage from nearly everywhere with Ultra 2 is very appealing, and its ability to potentially take away hasanshus, jump ins, and point blank neutral jump attacks is something I generally find more useful then removing fireballs in the match up.

Its also worth noting that the only normal chun-li has thats -7 or greater on block is cl.hp, at exactly -7, and is a move which a chun-li is not quite frankly not likely to be using when your sitting on charge with the chance to block. Even back + mk is only -6 so its not ultra 1 punishable on block. None of her l.legs or hazanshu are punishable on block. The only thing I can realistically see a player punishing with ultra 1, outside a wiff or fireball, would be blocked ex bird, but ultra 2 will also punish that and doesn’t require charge to do it.

Again, I’m new to chun-li, so feel free to take my thoughts with a grain of salt, but while I wouldn’t say picking ultra 1 is the wrong choice in that match up, its still plenty useful, I don’t necessarily agree that picking ultra 2 is a wrong choice either.

I don’t see very many of those points as valid, Dan. Hasan.shu is already risky against focus attack, which leads to a combo which builds meter. (Stun being less relevant because of Chun-Li’s high stun-gauge and the nature of the match-up making it exceedingly rare) Crouching.mp and standing.mp are already good tools for controlling your enemy Chun-Li in the air and, most of the time the mirror seems to be a stale-mate anyhow. Who’s going to be the first to take a chance?

Seriously, the hardest part about the mirror match is just getting yourself on the same side of the screen as Chun-Li. At least with U1 you create more gaps. I rarely use U1, because mostly when I need to clutch it, I tense up and fuck up the input anyhow. But, if it means they delay throwing kikoken until I’ve walked forward and buffered a hasan.shu, I’m okay with that.

I agree with you though, kikoken is pretty balls in this match-up. At max-range, you give her some revenge meter for free. At close range, she might jump over it and hit you with a target-combo jump-in.

I hate this match-up just because it’s turtle-city. And, when it’s not turtle-city, then it’s messy as all hell. I like to feel like I’m in better control of the flow of the match than that.

Don’t listen to me though; theory is good and everything, but I lose so much to Chun-Li that my word means dick all.

for the record i use u1 in this match but i used to use u2. I think theyre both viable, if you’re playing against a Chun that doesnt use Kikoken much or just isnt going to make a dumb mistake by throwing a bad one out, then u2 becomes more valuable.

Send a message to MrWizard. He can help you with it. I used to pay for SRK Premium though and he recognizes me, and he used to offer name changes to Prem users. Dunno if he’ll offer it for everyone but it’s worth a shot.

I still feel like it’s worth taking away the fireball aspect of Chun’s game to use U1. Even if you play against someone you KNOW doesn’t fireball often, I’d rather have U1 than not simply because if I pick U2 it gives them more reasons to fireball which is another thing I have to deal with.

I’m about to start grad school for an MBA, and while most quarters I will be able to schedule classes around WNF, my first quarter isn’t going to be one of them. Classes meet at night from 6-10, so unless I can convince Watson and Valle to hold a spot for me EVERY Wednesday, chances are I won’t be able to enter.

Today will be my last day at WNF for a while (as a competitor at least), and to top it off I’m rusty as shit and getting reckless from playing too much online.

HERE GOES

Good luck man. Aim for the top.

GL. My MA is every Saturday afternoons. It’s hard juggling SF mini tourneys and education/chemistry but I’m doing what I can lol

Man, hella good for a pre-hiatus outing. The commentators insisted on Chinese Snake though, even if the main man himself became Dragon Eyez thanks to Aris’ commentary.

Two Chuns in the top 16 and A1 finishing just outside it. Just need to help CC and have his tactics/jitter factor consistently work against everyone, and we’re on our way to producing a legit Shizza heir.

I had to pull out a lot of scummy tricks lol, not like Ian who just plays solid all around. My footsies still need work.

I’m pretty happy with how I did, but I had some execution errors against Veloc1raptor that caused me to lose. I meant to headstomp on a jump in since it avoids Gouken’s counter, but I accidentally did j.MK instead (which almost NEVER happens to me) and ate a wakeup counter into super. RIP.

Gonna try to still show up every once in a while since my school is fairly close, but dunno. It’s gonna be rough.

i think i found a use for f.mk

if its a counter hit, st.lp st.hp super or cr.lk cr.lk ex legs

I don’t use f+MK that often but yeah if you counter hit with it you get three (four?) frames lol. I’ve never found a practical application for it to get it to counter hit personally though.

The one thing I use it for is to sometimes bait reversals on wakeup. It’s deceiving because it’s out for a fairly long time so sometimes if you time it so that you recover as your opponent is getting up, you can either bait a reversal or potentially catch them blocking.

Forward throw > dash > f+MK then throw again or block is one I use every once in a while if I feel like mixing it up.
