SFIV Chun Li General - Fellowship of the Thigh v.2

I find its spacing is real good for start of the round shenaningans. Usually you just want to block and see what happens, inexperienced players, especially, want to force their game on you as soon as they hear the word, ‘fight.’ Bad players just jump, so if you’re caught up in recovery from a fireball, you eat dick. But, more canny players sometimes throw out forward walking pokes and, it works for Chun-Li, too. If they move forward, you shut that down immediately. It can beat whiffs and it doesn’t automatically put you in a dire situation if you whiff it.

Iansanity is real baller, by the way. I appreciate watching that cat play. Let him know next time you see him. It’s cool to see a Chun-Li holding shit down like a Chun-Li is supposed to do. Nobody else manages to get over the nerves of playing in a tourney, I guess? Not enough tourney experience or what have you. Even really sick cats like Nashfan seem to buckle under the pressure. I’m watching him and I can feel the inevitability of his losing. Not so, with Ian. Very solid play.

Managed to land full u1 corner juggle vs poison last night, still annoying she falls out of most.

I admit, because of the fact that I can’t consistently (I’ve yet to get the full juggle even once) ultra 1 her off a juggle (and with the damage nerf to ulra 1 off a juggle that means you get almost no damage at all) and Poison has some of the safest fireballs in the game on top of that, I’ve been using ultra 2 in this match up. Her DP doesn’t scare me (hit box is really high on all but the ex letting you attack under it) so I probably pressure her more then most fireball + dp characters which tends to result in more opportunities to combo into ultra 2 then say, against ryu, who I tend to want to stay back from and use U1 to make him want to come to me. I’m not sure if its truly the right choice, but I really REALLY hate when I seemingly combo into ultra 1 perfectly only to have Poison drop out for almost no damage and maybe even a punish on me during my u1 recovery. I also play primarily online so a fireball that’s hard to punish can often become near impossible to punish depending on the lag.

ive considered using u2 against her as well but i almost never do. poison players dont seem to realize just how damn hard it is to punish so they play more defensive when you have u1.

the reason poison is a bad matchup is because with u1, you’re basically saying you probably wont land an ultra.
with u2, you may land it, but youll be zoned hard.

Was screwing around in training mode last night with some impractical style combos lol

All of these combos are in the corner.

cl.HK xx EX Legs FADC (backdash) > EX Legs > Ultra 1 (this looks lame on paper, but it looks REALLY sick in game in my opinion lol)
cl.HK xx EX Legs FADC (forward dash) > Headstomp x3 (you have to cancel before the last hit of EX Legs or headstomps won’t connect)
cr.HP xx HK Legs ~ MK Extension > cr.MK xx EX Kikoken > EX SBK > Ultra 1
or just
cr.HP xx HK Legs ~ MK Extension > cr.MK xx EX Kikoken > Ultra 1
cr.HP xx HK Legs ~ MK Extension > cr.HP xx MP Kikoken xx Red Focus [Crumple] > Wait > df+LK [Launch] > Forward Dash > EX Legs > Ultra 1

Inputs for getting charge on cr.MK xx EX Kikoken in time to use EX SBK or U1 after is really odd. You have to do the quick-charge trick and then almost plink the EX Kikoken input. It’s not hard, just weird.

Also after seeing that Desk video of cr.LP xx EX Legs, I’m considering implementing it because I don’t have too difficult a time executing it.

Hey, so Ive return back to SF after a long break and chun used to be my main. however, I always did lack in the combo area and was always predictable. Im trying to slowly learn some combos and have been looking at the Thigh Life thread. So far ive been practicing some of the meterless combos and im having a hard time pulling off the following: ccl.st.HK xx LK Lightning Legs > S.LP > S.HP

Only time I can pull this off is if I jump in with HK and then do the combo, or is that just how it should be. Also, what would you guys suggest is the best way to improve my chun game, I want to seriously get better with her.

What comes out when you try to do the combo? Do you have input display on to check your inputs?

check out my cheesy combo video to get you ideas

I do have my inputs on to see if im doing it right, and maybe I am but after I do close standing hard kick, I try to go into doing the EX LK which seems to come out slow and pushes me away where I miss the S.LP into S.HP.

@heavyarmsp Thanks, ill check it out

Wait, are you trying to do EX legs or LK legs?

LK legs, my fault, that was an error in my previous post

You want to do HK Legs into st. LP -> St. HP, because that’s the one that doesn’t push back so far.

If you do LK Legs, then just do st. HP as your ender, because even though it pushes back farther, it’s +6 on hit instead of +3, so you can link straight into st. HP.

Guys I figured out an awesome way to do leg loop inputs on a controller with 24mm buttons. The cancel is so easy now, the hard part is actually getting the plink out consistently. I can link sweep after one rep but haven’t been able to get rep 2 of a loop yet.

Sorry, this was in the wrong thread.

Alex Valle’s Hugo owns my soul.

I am more afraid of his Hugo than his Ryu.

Gotta give Mr. Valle credit, he’s taken a character nearly everyone declared garbage tier and really become a serious threat. Of course until he wins something with Hugo, no one will give Hugo any respect, but I’ve watched him at wednesday night fights and occasionally on his live streams playing online and he does an awfully impressive job of making the character seem viable.

Having said that, its still a match up I feel favors chun-li, just maybe not as much as some people thought when ultra first came out.

EX backbreaker and U2 murder backdashes :open_mouth:

Made top 16 (13th place) at 37 Reloaded.

Not sure how many of you guys saw me get absolutely fucking blown up by Justin Wong on stream though. Pretty bad. I think Mike Watson didn’t realize I’d had a name change when he set up the brackets so he put me in some no-name match first, winner played Justin lol. Lost my second match and ran a train through losers before losing to Chris King.
