Usually a little of both. I look to see what I was able to get away with and what liberties my opponent got away with and try and anticipate both better the next time. Which one is more effective probably depends on how you won or lost.
Yeah, cr.mp is pretty fool proof against shotos. Especially to get that last hit in on jumpy motherfuckers. Definitely underrated.
I tend to consider Cr. MP a yomi uppercut waiting to happen.

You guys empty jump a lot with chun? I don’t really use it and I feel it could be a big detriment to my game. What do you think?

If you’re going for jump oki then your main mixup is probably going to be:
j.hp~hp
j.hp, c.lk/cl.hk/throw
empty jump c.lk
empty jump hazanshu
j.lp -> throw or cl.hk
j.lp, c.lk
yeah empty jump works best when ppl are use to block j.hp tc
Ya know, when I think of it, one of the few requests I’d have for ultra is (and don’t chew me out if you disagree) making st.mk a command. Like db.mk or something. Playing online (I know, it sucks) moving forward/backward and quickly going neutral for the mk AA, the direction always carries over. If I delay it enough to be truly neutral then I get a jump-in kick to the face more than I should. Oh well, guess I need to practice more. But the fact that I can AA with st.fp just fine holding back shows that making mk a command may be worth something. Right? Did I make that up all crazy time?
The same thing happens to me online too. I’m not sure if I’d want it to be a command since in theory better netcode would solve the problem.

I would take a serious buff in f. mk and delete b. mk altogether
I’ve been using the b+mk TC frequently as of late. Although it isn’t the fastest poke you can use it as one and if you tag your opponent it’s easy to confirm into the rest of the hits. What other poke can chun do this with? Besides maybe st.mp xx ex-legs? So in the matchups where has a strong mid-range game, this can come in handy. I love punishing whiffed FAs with it after a quick backdash too
actually, just catching any FA with it. Period.

But really you can catch FAs, bisons slide, vegas slide, zangief after GH, punish chun’s whiffed hazanshu, the twins’ palms, abel’s rolls, fei’s whiffed rekkas, blah blah blah the list goes on. The best part is that is has great reach so you can do it from a distance that you wouldn’t otherwise be able to punish effectively outside of maybe a sweep. I’m starting to like it, just sayin’.
It`s reach is just a little bit farther than Sweep - and it does 164 instead of 90 DMG.
Without charge its our only punish at that distance.
So no - its not “shitty”
b+mk is a solid punish against some hard to deal with normals, like dictator st.mk.
I wouldn’t want it removed, would be better to buff her c.hp as an anti-air normal by improving the hitbox a bit.
chun is a footsie heavy character 164dmg for a punish is patetic
b.mk is shitty, is slow, its hitbox is ass, etc you guys are just being too naive, sure is better than nothing but thats the f*cking problem i dont want half ass tools i want to punish ppl for doing stupid bs and 164dmg is not going to make anyone second guessing themselves…
and this is a problem with other aspects of chun Ex legs being 40dmg each hit nets us 160dmg by it self, but as you know you cant rely on this move because many times it only hits for 2-3 hits tops using meter… thats bullshit.
our pokes does little to no damage, guile far fierce is like 110-120 IIRC ours is 100, and the list goes on.
i wouldnt mind b.mk if at least we could use it to do some weird ass KARA THROW, but is doesnt do that.
