It’s easier to stay on Hakan imo to keep him from staying oiled up as much as possible than it is to straight up avoid a knockdown from Akuma. The more time you can waste when you get pressure started or get an opening, the better… and Chun’s pretty good at that.
Oiled Hakan can be a nightmare sometimes though. That damage and defense boost from oiled Hakan is kind of annoying to put up with when you have lower health yourself and generally lower damage output. He’s very slippery (literally) and kills some of your best buttons just with focus and if he’s on point with his setups you can find yourself either dead or at a huge life deficit pretty quick… wondering how the hell you can make a comeback.
I agree with snakeAes on this one, that matchup changes based on oil status vs a Hakan who KNOWS what he’s doing.
You can still punish EX oil shower with Chun’s Ultra 1 btw. It’s better to delay it a bit and punish from fairly far because even if he makes the first part whiff, he’ll stand up into the later part of it. It’s also possible to get the first hit of the Ultra to counter hit him out of his attempt to cancel it into his guard position crouch (not sure why this happens but it does).
Slightly off topic: I always thought oiled Hakan should take more damage from fire-based attacks but it doesn’t work that way now… he still takes less… oh well.
I can’t win a worth while fight with Ken to save my ass. I picked him up as my third character.
It is funny that people expect me to DP on wake up and they are totally mind-fucked when I don’t. lol
At any rate I really like Chun against Hakan.
Juri does okay (or at least my abilities to use Juri does okay) But I feel Chun’s long reaching moves aid her greatly in matches like this.
Hefty post, Hang with me a second
An snip from eventhubs USF4 updates. I’ve been watching other character changes closely and seeing how they may affect Chun-Li directly, new options, losing options etc.,
Seth:
Dragon Punch invincibility frames are being nerfed. (FChamp says there is a universal change to uppercut invincibility frames in which everyone’s DP will be the same.)
So? Will they all be 4,5 frames?
“everyone’s DP” tells me the entire cast, shotos and non-shotos with DPs…Ex LLegs safe jumps could be a sick tactic.
I’m getting off these setups now with great success, I hope it can become a more universal rush down tactic for Chun.
Blanka:
More recovery on Beast Ball. - Will make U1 punish even easier.
System:
FADCing DPs only can be done on first hit now.
All characters will now be -3 after an uppercut, FADC, dash forward (what is Chun’s current frame recovery on a forward dash? This once sort of confuses me as well as FADC; assuming FADC is canceling blocked special but if that applies to absorbing attacks and moving in. I think may suck a bit.
Unblockables have been removed -(guess I’ll drop Ken, since I suck with him anway, haha)
We could compile a list of changes, though some may argue these aren’t final - I think it is safe to assume any announced changes are final.
I heard about the changes, too, from a different source than EventHubs and I believe that they’re true.
The DP change will be great because it forces players to commit to FADC or not, unless someone is so godlike they can FADC the first hit on reaction >_>
EDIT: I have my doubts about true removal of unblockables though. I have a feeling people are still going to find them, and/or that the removal of the problem that allows unblockables to occur will result in some other abuseable tactic.
I am so out of practice against high-level opponents lol. I am planning to start going back, but friggin DRS (NGL? I forget) Chris was option selecting my wakeups perfectly every time. It made me lock up. No disrespect to him though, I know he’s a very good Ken player.
In my defense, I had literally JUST gotten into WNF and paid my fee. I played one match in winners that was absolutely free (it may as well have been training mode), and then Valle goes “you’re on stream.”
I was like wat D:
I know it’s no excuse though. I’m planning to get re-involved in the WNF scene. I won’t let you guys down!
Yeah I was gonna say. My friend and I were watching earlier and you def could have kept him out better (and you did after the first game). He caught pressing buttons/wakeup backdash with hp SRK so many times.
That’s not to say NGL Chris wasn’t/isn’t good. He leveled up a lot in between earlier and the time Chris G visited post-Evo.
Just rewatched the archive of it. I had a lot of execution errors and bad reads. I’d never played Chris before so I was expecting him to reversal DP a little more during blockstrings and he never did. Also just need to whiff punish better in general and just stop fucking pushing buttons when I don’t need to. It’s useful sometimes, but it’s become a bad habit that I need to break. All things considered I’m not too unhappy with how I did considering I’ve been out of the competitive scene for a good while. Will keep grinding though. Thanks 4neqs for watching the stream though =]
Anyone tried downloading King of Combat: http://www.kingofcombat.com/?
Looks pretty cool, may give it a whirl myself so long as I can get my stick to work on PC.
Lee Won Hee - looks like an interesting mix of Chun-Li, Juri and Kim from KOF
She has a pinwheel, lightning legs and other interesting bits.
Also went on quite a run in ranked today; I think I may have a few fights worthy of upload.
Akuma’s 2012 change making all of his moves from Demon Flip blockable low (whereas palm used to be an overhead) means that if Akuma demon flips, I can just crouchblock and only worry about if he crosses me up.
How did I not realize this sooner?
Edit:
Wow, this changes the matchup for me so dramatically because I used to eat demon flip option selects all day. I’m such a scrub >_<
Really? Well you are the only one. I thought I had to block the kick and palm high and the sweeping kick low of course though I rarely see any Akuma player try that. Especially because Chun can punish those so easily.
So I can block them all low now, eh? That changes things for me too.
Just keep in mind that the throw can still hit crouchers, and akuma also has easier crossups (maybe unblockables) against crouching chun. A lot of people seem to have missed the change, even akuma players.
I would play KoC/Xuan Dou Zhi Wang if there were an actual working key. Apparently it’s really hard to make it work outside of China. I will get KOF 13 for PC for sure.
