SFIV Chun Li General - Fellowship of the Thigh v.2

Right. If he times the throw properly on your wakeup you will still get thrown because it takes you a few frames to fully crouch (I think that’s fuzzy guard?), and can be thrown while you’re still on the way to crouching.

And his command divekick (the one that comes NOT from the demon flip but is d+MK at his jump arc) is still an overhead. But basically, the only way Demon Flip can (or should) hit in 2012 is if you are pressing buttons, if you get thrown on wakeup (since the throw only connects on standing), or if he intentionally goes too far and crosses you up.

Fortunately it’s easy to tell the difference, if he makes a sound when he goes into the air it’s the demon flip and you just hold downback lol.

The worst part is, I KNEW about the change, but it wasn’t until an Akuma friend was like “why do you keep blocking high against demon flip” that I realized I didn’t need to. It’s just habit for when I see the opponent in the air - I stand.

its not fuzzy guard. its just crappy programming lol

Akuma’s DF grab can still get you crouching regardless of that standing/crouching state thing. But going back to Cammy and Hakan’s meaty command grab trick for a second, something doesn’t make sense to me regarding that: You can’t be thrown for 2 frames whenever you wake up so how is that even working at all? That would mean it takes more than 2f to be considered fully crouching on wakeup even when you’re holding down the entire time which is pretty shitty.

I know that points mean nothing, but yesterday I broke top 50 BP Chuns in the US on GFWL lol. I was sitting around rank 45 when I logged out.

Ask Broly for BP tactics

Here is a BP tip that I unintentionally found:
I always select ‘any’ as the player skill, because the search engine sucks anyway.
But it gives the most players to choose from with the hopes of getting a solid connection. That is where the science pretty much stops, haha.
I’ll cycle a few matches between Chun, Juri and Ken.
Well I suck with Ken, I’m mediocre with Juri even known I really ‘know’ the character, but I win most of matches with Chun
so I Lose, Lose, Win, Lose, Lose, Win, haha.
Chun’s BP climbs like crazy beating B, B+ and A players (who send extremely salty messages) while PP takes a massive dive thanks to Ken and Juri.

There you have it, easy BP tactics

Some 10k BP Ryu today messaged me saying “You can punish Ryu’s sweep with Ultra? Wow new tech”

I was like… WHAT

You should see people’s reactions when Super punishes… just about anything.

but i was blocking! -> always gets me roflol

Speaking of Super, I need more anti-air c. mp in my life. :shake:

Yo stop the presses… that shit’s punishable?!

All kidding aside, I often forget Ryu’s sweep is actually fast enough to punish Chun’s sweep on block and it surprises me whenever it happens, then I’ll be like “oh yeah… that”.
I’ve never seen a Ryu play go for his super to punish Chun’s sweep though. They should leverage that more often in the endgame.

If I were a Ryu player, I’d only go for Super punish on Chun’s sweep if it’s going to win the round. If I have full meter, I’d rather save it for the FADC or other Ultra setup (EX Hadoken, EX Tatsu in the corner etc.). That’s just me though. But yeah I have seen some people punish Chun’s sweep with Super, but I don’t see it often.

Hey there, long time lurker here.

I was wondering if anyone can help me with the cl hk > hk LL > fadc > cl hk > hk LL

I can’t get it off consistently, most of the times the dummy blocks it, and the suddenly I can get a lot of those in a row.
I don’t know if my timings are off, because I’m apparently doing it at the same time when it hits and when it gets blocked.

Is it a 1 frame link?
I’m not sure if its the dash that is messing up the combos, or my timing on the second HK.

One thing I’ve noticed is that I can only get it correctly if I cancel the very last hit of the hk LL, but even doing that, I get blocks sometimes.

Thanks in advance.

its like a 3f link but

you gotta FADC it in a weird window, you need to do the FADC at the 4th hit, you do have some leniency about the cancel window, but if you do it too late you cant link the cl.hk hence the difficulty of this bnb

I took a little break from Street Fighter and just went back to playing it again a day or two ago… lost 1000pp already xD Damn.

Btw I think I saw Rayartz online too. Not sure if its the same person or not.

I guess I just gotta get the FADC timing correctly then.

Thanks for the input : )

What are your guys’ opinions on Chun’s close standing mk? Just learned that it is an overhead, well actually the first hit isn’t, but the rest of the hits are overheads. Been playing with it lately and I was surprised at how many times I was a able to sneak in some dmg. Did air to air light kick then dash to the other side of opponent, then close st.mk. A blocked cr.lk > cr.lp then a close st.mk. I also used close st.mk on the opponents wake-up. Went to check out the frame data which is the first time i looked at and studied frame data and it has 4 frames of startup, 16 frames to recover, -4 on block and -1 on hit. So what are your guys opinions?

It’s okay sneak in damage with it as you said but it’s not that much damage. I use it to basically make sure my opponent is not blocking low all day. The 4f startup is to get to the 1st hit (the non-overhead part) of it, but if it connects it’ll become a true blockstring that they have to block high the entire time until the move ends. Sometimes the 1st hit can actually whiff on crouchers and you can get jabbed in between.
You can also cancel the 1st hit into HSU if you want to be trickier after conditioning the opponent enough with just the cl. st. MK.

Some DPs can punish it on block but I’ve never seen anyone actually do that to me in a match. I think it pushes back too far to get punished with a jab.

40dmg is ass, but i do use this move quite often, you can make some reversals whiff if timing correctly…

but then again abel cl.hk does 30dmg as an overhead lolollool

Sure this could be pointless, and I personally completely disagree with these numbers, but it is interesting to at least see how the ‘general community’ views a character’s placement.
Off of Eventhubs here is Chun-Li’s rating from SF4 to Ae2012:

SF4 Tier rank 7th (I’d say higher than that)
SSF4 Tier rank 4th (top 5? hardly)
SSF4 AE Tier rank 9th (with her already bad match ups, nerfed moves from Super and the addition of the twins? 9th?)
SSF4 AE 2012 Tier rank 36th (out of 39 characters? She’s only better than 3 - that is just ridiculous.)
USF4 - With 40 + characters, Hopefully a legit top 10

Not sure how Chun was ranked 9th in AE and then falls to 36th (facepalm)
But that certainly reflects how people play against Chun-Li, zero respect.
