Nah, not without FADC. She won’t recover fast enough normally to do it before they hit the ground.
Edit: Correction: it’s going to be character specific. I tested it on Balrog and it’ll work on him because his fall speed is slower (and possibly because his hurtbox is larger) but it didn’t work on Ryu.
Edit 2: Let me clarify that I’m referring to doing stomps on the character in the corner after EX FB without FADC. So far I tested it on about 1/3 of the characters and it works on Barlog and Dhalsim consistently for sure and it’s very hard to do on Cammy but it works on her as well.
That’s just bullshit they put up on eventhubs from how much the corner combo did, if you break it down and compare the damage, the damage is high because ComboFiend left CH on from the previous test, although there is an obvious U2 damage buff for the last hit, everything else in that combo except ex legs does exactly the same damage (I’m not saying ex legs damage is different, it’s just I couldn’t really compare because of how I did the test)
There’s no actual source for “general damage buff”, which is why the SRK article doesn’t mention it, EventHubs are just lazy fucks who don’t source check.
This man speaks the truth. I looked back at the demonstration videos, blogs, and discussions. There is no source for “general damage buff”. Technically though the df/lk buff is a damage buff since you can threaten respectable damage off any jump in. Thanks to Darklightjg1, we now know we can get a little more mileage out of EX Kikoken too using 1 meter.
Changing the topic, how many of you guys thought they might have been showing a b+mk change in that demonstration video? It’s impossible to tell, but it might have been a subtle nod to us. I remember a lot of suggestions for her b+mk target combo on Capcom Unity, some of which I hope weren’t taken seriously. Some people were asking for the startup to be reduced so we can combo into it like in SFxT. While this would clearly be a buff, I thought about it some more and felt a bit conflicted. If Chun can do respectable meterless damage starting from a crouching low on a crouching opponent, she would lose dependency on EX Legs. She could save more meter for Super or EX Spinning Bird. But you’d be changing the way she is played a bit. For every EX Legs Chun uses, she also sacrifices her only true reversal EX Spinning Bird. This ties in with her Hybrid/Jack of all trades playstyle, and the dependency on EX moves helps balance/keep her in check. But if you want that good easy meterless damage, they might in turn nerf her EX Legs. Some of us take it for granted, but EX Legs is really really good. It’s damaging, starts up quickly, is easy to combo into and is safe on block. It has a lot of different applications depending on how you play too. Thanks to the forward movement and the fact that it’s safe on block, I like to backdash then EX Legs on a person’s wakeup just to be sneaky. Just something I was thinking about, wanted other people to weigh in.
Now my question for you guys is, where do you want that damage buff to be? Do you want it to be on her Ultra? Normals? EX moves? Just curious. I want her EX Legs to be buffed. If they managed to make it connect for all four hits that’d be pretty good. Does anyone know why it doesn’t connect fully? I seriously can’t find the answer. And if they up it back to Vanilla, 200 dmg if all four hits connect, that would be awesome.
I don’t think there’s any good reason for Chun to be forced to burn meter just to get what the majority of the cast gets meterless. Not only that, but just about every bnb she has deals with some character specific BS that I don’t think anyone should be putting up with and and this buff should at least give her one that works on everyone whether they’re standing or crouching.
It also won’t kill the usefulness of EX Legs. The meterless bnb that comes from a buffed b+mk will be decent when you end the combo right there at the end of the upkicks, but any follow ups won’t really be as worthwhile because you’ve already scaled the combo by more than 4 hits at that point. So using EX legs when you want to get more damage from your followup Ultra or EX SBK will still be very useful. It’s also still a 4f punisher, good for dash up EX Legs chip, good for backdash EX legs trickery, good for using cl. HK xx EX Legs, and getting the safe jump setup off of it etc. But she doesn’t need to be spending meter or going for a situational link every time she wants to confirm off of lights. She should be able to have that meter for much more crucial situations imo. A large majority of the other characters do.
As far as being a jack of all trades/master of none, I don’t think she is at all. She’s a master of the mid range poking game and b+mk would definitely compliment that giving her a another great whiff punisher (don’t overestimate it though, it still has bad recovery so it’s fair). She also has the most available punishes in the game with her super and ultra 1 and having b+mk allow her to build more meter via bnb will help put emphasis on that strength as well. She’s also one of the faster characters and can move in and out pretty effectively.
Her weakness, as I see it, is she has to be able to keep this mid range/in and out game up for way too long (low damage conversion without super meter and b+mk would help with that as mentioned) and certain characters can easily bypass playing that game and get in just by jumping and having an air altering move that makes it difficult to anti-air.
Chun Li has a lot of anti airs, but none of them are really strong enough deterrents anymore to keep them from carelessly trying over and over until they succeed and get a nice damage and knockdown payoff for it (df+lk used to be a good one but they took it away and hopefully they’re restoring it in USF4). Having to commit to charge or use an air to air just to use some of her stronger anti-airs is simply not enough. So being able to deter them with a more accessible anti-air and force them to play at the mid-range is one of the main things I think she needs to be viable.
Plus once they get in she doesn’t have a very strong way to escape that pressure. She has to commit to any defensive decision she makes and gets put right back into the same situation when she’s wrong… with low health. I actually don’t mind putting up with this as a weakness as much because I think it’s survivable more often than not, but I know Az wants a standalone Tenshokyaku to help deal with this problem. I wouldn’t not use it, but it’s not on the top of my list.
My 2 cents on that.
As far as the video, I was hoping maybe b+mk got buffed and it was a clue, but they didn’t confirm anything about it so I can’t hope too much.
It -might- be faster from what it looks like in the video, but it very hard to tell because of the low framerate of the video.
If anything I find it hard to believe that they are turning a 9f move into a 6f move, because that would be pretty rediculous.
3rd if being, if it just a bit faster it might have become a consistent knockdown followup from ch st.mp, which is very nice to have indeed.
If you are looking for a damage increase my guess would be they up the damage on U2 and make U1 juggle more consistently in the corner, it would help a lot.
Insightful and agreeable, although I don’t think I can hit that button twice, hmm… let me try. Okay I thought about it and you won me over, I want that b+mk buff now! \(^o^)/ I know EX Legs would still be good, but I guess I was just worried about giving her more than she needs. For the most part, between all four iterations her gameplan and her inherent weaknesses have remained the same. While I like buffs, I hope people think about how some of the things they ask for affect her in the long run. May she never be nerfed into oblivion. I still think she’s a good jack of all trades/master of none, in the sense that she always has a relatively good answer to most things. And yeah I asked for that standalone Tenshokyaku too, not because I was thinking about balance, but because I was just being greedy lol. Well nothing’s final, so I pray we keep her buffs and then some. One last thing, Darklightjg1 how did you go about modding the PC version? I mean I know I can just google it, but I want to know how you did it specifically so I can get the exact same result. I just want to play around a bit. I have Vanilla SF4 for PC that I bought in a bargain bin for 5$, hope that works lol. Hmm… okay never mind I’m just gonna google it haha.
Hmm. I don’t know how to do it with vanilla sf4 as I don’t have it and I’m sure it’s a different tool/process being used, so I can’t really explain that.
I watched error00001’s video tutorial on it to gain a grasp of how to use it:
And if you ever happen to get AE on PC and just want to use the version of Chun Li that I made changes to, you can download the folder for her here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/qmi8kz
Thanks! Bookmarked and downloaded! Er I remember now AE being on sale on Steam awhile back, I should’ve gotten it then. I had quit my job not to long ago, and was feeling really down. Low on money, it was either that or booze. I chose the booze lol.
