Can anyone tell me how the lag is for this game?

SFII: Hyper Fighting - First Impressions

The reminder thread was closed, but someone at the end of it was asking about how it was. Here’s my first impressions…

I just got done playing for about 2 hours in Quarter Matches. The lag was…well, it varied. Some matches were pretty good. Every once in a while it got laggy, but it was decent for the most part.

To be honest, most of the connection problems seemed to be outside of the matches. While picking your player, before starting a match etc. It would randomly do this “Establishing a connection thing” for 15 seconds quite a bit. That was kind of annoying.

Now, back to the matches for a second. As I said, most of the matches felt pretty decent. However, while they played fairly fluidly, it did feel like anything with tight timing was hard to pull off. For instance, doing a low forward -> fireball combo felt fairly easy to pull off. But, doing a fierce punch -> j. shoryuken seemed pretty tough to get off for some reason. It could be that it’s just a bit tighter timing and that the network code wasn’t sending stuff through quick enough to cancel that. Or, maybe I’m just suck with my new new DOA stick? Hard to tell, to be honest. But, it did feel a little floaty.

All in all, I had a blast(GG’s to anyone who played me!). And I have fairly high hopes for it. In all honesty, I think the performance tonight was probably as bad as it’ll get. Since it just came out, I assume there weren’t that many people on. So, I was playing against people from far away. I’m in LA and I played against people in New York, Pennsylvania, Seattle, the UK(I think), and who knows where else. I’m guessing once more people are on you’ll probably get paired up with more local people, which should give you a better connection.

Also, there were A LOT of srubs on there tonight(No offense to any scrubs I might’ve played:rofl:). So, there were a lot of people joining and quitting after a match or two. So, for now, I’m attributing all the annoying establishing connection messages to lots of people connecting and disconnecting from all over the place.

I didn’t play any one on one matches(I’m already up too late!). But, I suspect they’ll perform at least as good, and probably better, than the quarter matches I played.

So, so far it’s definitely not perfect, but it ain’t too bad

First impressions as well.

Wow this thing has a lot of network problems… and as SweetJV said… it’s not in the matches. Sometimes you’ll be getting lost connections or “cannot connet to host”, etc. Phi could barely connect to anyone but his network is all crazy so I think that’s just him. Me & RSigley are both in jersey and had a damn good connection. I could DP, combo, 2in1, etc all the time. Using sagat for short low tiger > roundhouse low tiger > tiger knee > tiger uppercut > land > short low tiger worked flawlessly 99% of the time. From a first 10-20 matches or so I’ve noticed that there’s no middleground for lag really. It’s either really terrible or really good. All in all I think everyone will be pleased with this game.

Scrubs are everywhere… you’re gonna fight a ton of people who only use roundhouse with ken. I’m sure we’ll get our community going though.

As for the DoA4 stick that I’m using and I’m sure a lot of you will use. If you use the DoA4 stick GO TO OPTIONS AND CHANGE IT. Just highlight the punch or kick you want to assign and push the button you want to change it. The default settings do NOT work for the DoA4 stick.

As for matches… finding matches is seriously plentiful… if only the other live fighters were like that. There’s ranked matches, 1 on 1 matches, and 4 player quarter matches where you wait your turn and winner stays. If you’re in the room before the match starts you get to watch the match as well.

As for purchasing this game. It is 800 points… and dumbass Microsoft only sells points in 500 and 1000 denominations if you’re looking to just buy it from the marketplace with no prepaid card. 1000 points is $12.95 + tax (or is that including tax). So you’ll be stuck with 200 points left… if you’re hardcore or bored… you can purchase the 150 point Street Fighter themes and still end up with 50 points. Goddam I just wanted to pay for the game not some points shit and redemption… fucking MS.

Oh well feel free to add anything I didn’t… I’m liking this a lot more than AE I’m finding.

(Prays that the airconditioning will break down, forcing me to leave work early… )

OK, got my hands on this thing and I have mixed feelings. First, as most say, you either have a great connection or you don’t. So far I played only a few games and all were great. Blanka dominated and that = good.

I’m using the DOA stick and its ok. I missed some easy stuff but I’m sure it has all to do with me getting used to the stick.

The wierd parts are either inbetween quarter matches or in between anything. Sometimes it says syncing or whatever for like 15 secs. Not terribly annoying but not great either. On the bright side, once the game is going, it seems to load VERY fast from round to round.

I also noticed some delay in my inputs but it could be as Todd says, I’m playing on a HDTV so I’ll have to switch to my tube set and see whats up.

Overall, it’s no ZBattle but it feels damn near close. OH WAIT! It’s also faster than Speed 3 on AE! It def feels more like old school HF.

Im getting on!

Im no good tho… Just for the record

Any lag you’re seeing on Hyper Fighting can’t be from video processing. All Live Arcade games run in native HD formats, including 720p and 1080i. If you have a DLP set, the lag you’ll get offline will be minimal if you are playing at at least 720p res.

Even with the issues, I’m still psyched. Just being able to get something like this working to any degree interests me. I’ll be checking in throughout the day to read other people’s input.

BUT WAIT TIL LATER WHEN THE L IS GIVEN TO EVERYONE I PLAY AGAINST HWARAHWHAHHAAH

I played about 30 matches before work this morning:

  • There’s obviously an error with the connection code - too many times out for it to be a coincedence. I had 3 matches with lag, one was horrible the other two were bearable.

  • Quarter mode is cool but no rankings. It woulda been nice if they had a different ranking system for quarter mode - maybe a king of the hill type with a leaderboard on who has the most wins in a row.

Lot of horrible people, DOA stick is dope

Main gripe: No rematch if you use quick match which is probably why there’s always a lot of people waiting because you can’t get into long sessions with a person

I got embarassed by some guy who just did hundred hand slap with honda all day and i wanted my revenge, but no rematch option :frowning:

I got my ass handed to me for I’m a scrub at this game. But that’s cool, if anyone’s willing to help a scrub out and learn the game feel free to send a friend request to the name ;-).

My only gripe I’ve found (since I didn’t have any noticable lag, i.e. frame rate drops) is that in ranked matches it’s hard to get in rooms but that is probably due to all the people playing it right now.

I can’t remember who beat me in ranked match, but he could at least cross-over and combo. More than I could haha.

Incidentally… just read this on MajorNelson.com

WTF? I wonder why that is?

Yea I’m getting zero lag but I’m playing on teh VGA cable on a 19 inch NEC CRT monitor at like 1200 res or something. Get the VGA cable for 360 people… I’m telling you once you use it you can’t go back… if your CRT doesn’t blow that is.

I want to go home sick now

Good reviews. After playing for about a hour myself the only issue I had was the lost of connection or connection time and lagging in between the quarter matches. But everything was find a lot scrubs on last night and my custom stick actually work pretty good. I use the gamer report diagram to make a stick and it work well.

Gamer Reports diagrams

I cannot believe that droppers STILL don’t get penalized for quitting the match. Its not like this is a new problem. Why even bother with a ‘ranked’ match then?

98% of the players are total scrubs lol.

I counted those out, it’s actually more like 30 seconds.

Have had fun with this tonight. I landed a re-dizzy on someone for a perfect in quarter match and everybody scattered by the time I got back for the next challenger. Haha :looney:

I havent had any droppers myself. Just people leaving after 1.

I’m having a lot of fun with this, mostly playing 'Rog, Sagat and Ken. I’ve been keeping to playing folks on my friends list so I haven’t had any drops.

hopefully this sells well enough for Capcom to put more games on LA.

I’ve still yet to see a Rog or Gief player online. Gief is understandable, if most people are using pad, but no love for Rog?

i play rog against newbie ryus, the lag is horrible but still fun.
