I’ve been integrating the j.LK into my game more and more recently. It is wonderful for tick throws, as it hits lower and sooner than j.LP (additionally, people aren’t prepared for the tick as they would be with j.LP). I mix it into CW/low attack/throw loops to seriously mind screw opposition.
It is useful against the loathsome Dragon Brothers and their fireball traps. It had been quite frustrating to be locked in a range from which I could neither Rekka and CWs wouldn’t hit. Neutral jumping with LP helps (with a LP thrown in order to shrink Fei’s hitbox) along with jumping forward LK. The LK shrinks your hit box so that you can jump from a range that you wouldn’t ordinarily (i.e. just outside of your j.forward HK’s range). You might land in sweep range but you can block the sweep low and CW through the ensuing fireball attempt. So where the j.HK essentially increases your jump-in range, the j.LK shrinks your range to be hit–all while landing it the same place! Where you would easily have been swept had you used CW you land relatively safely.
Now I can, block (wait and see), Rekka and wreck those cowardly clowns, or immediately LK CW to go over their predictable fireball/sweep attempts when I land.
Shotos must pay!
so do you have to do the j.short a little late to block the sweep too?
Yes, I do it on the way down to throw them off making their sweeps miss. I generally do it on reaction–not anticipation–and it has worked pretty well. I had my brother pull the old Ryu/Ken zone nonsense on me and I worked my way over to him using a combination of neutral jumps and “safe” (as safe as this sort of jump can be, I suppose) j. forward LK into his waiting sweeps/DPs. I’d land in a position to block/reaction about 99 percent of the time over a 20 minute practice session. I’d be more than happy to join you in a friendly room to test this and see how it works for you.
okay i did a late j.short over there fireball(a little bit before seeing a c.rdh) and idk if i did it right or if i landed right outside there c.rdh. i’m down for some practice. i’ll hit you up with a friends request later after i get out class if thats cool with you.
Sure.
So I know Coth has mentioned it before, and I’m sure many others have, too, but cr. jab into rekkas / tick throw is pretty good mix up. I like it.
So’s cr.lk > cl.hp mixed with b.mk
cr.short is so good for strings also a nice setup for a overhead fwd.
man this thread needs some light for my homie fei long.
on sirlins site i read that cw recovery frames were increased to like 9(?) to prevent canceling into HP. but i got a lucky 5 hit combo on dictator when he cr.hk into my cw and i pressed HP to setup for rekka strings or combo when he doesnt block but it connected. lagging? idk but it was weird.
I’ll have to try that next time. Thanks, Man.
Hit me up next time you need help pretending your a big angry black man that likes to punch things. Or if you want to learn how to apply makeup.
Edit: Tried it out in training mode. This is awesome.
thx but i’ll pass on that.lol
Oops. That post was in response to Coth. But the offer is still open to you if you change your mind!
Nah I’ll pass too, unless you wear that dress.
So is there a reason why you suggested b. mk instead of f. mk? I find I end up “option selecting” the overhead into throw and I want to keep my oppoenent in the corner. Never bothered to try f. mk so I’m not sure if it wiffs or something funky like that.
f.mk actually moves you forward, but b.mk gives a static overhead, depends on whether you want to retain spacing or go for a tick throw. If you don’t intend on ticking use b.mk to stay out of throw ranges.
damn i didnt know cr.short to cl.fierce works that good i wasnt paying attention when coth mentioned it.
Yeah I definitely like Fei’s character design. When you’re up close Fei feels like a top tier character (if you ignore the fact that his SRK sucks). It’s just that his SRK sucks and getting in on a lot of the cast is a problem.
yeah fei is a sneaky character that why i always use him. he can just turn the table on the match no matter the odds against him when he gets the right oppurtunity. find or make a opening, sneak in, pressure them in a corner and stomp them out.
btw, JDM ggs the other night, I rarely play on HDR anymore, so it was good seeing you.
I now also like cl.mp > cr.hk
Flame Kick isn’t that bad. It’s still a legit reversable. EG: He’s not low tier because of bad flame kicks.
And yeah, That’s why Fei Long is competitive, because if you let that motherfucker in, he will kill you. Getting in is the problem. But I like that. You can be competitive with a character like that. If it were easy to get in with Fei, he’d be broken, Lol.
