Why do you think that? I mean, it doesn’t have to be overly romantic (mind you, the shipper in me wants it to be that way), but I think it will help expand his character arc.
i can see it, he loves anything beautiful, but i would imagine it’s not romantic, but more psychotic, like he want’s to rip her to shreds because she’s so beautiful, not because to make her ugly, but because he’s a fucking psycho
He even says “Talk of friendship bores me. No one is good enough to be my friend anyway.” It’s unimaginable to think he can find anyone to be his lover if he feels for friendship this way.
Glad Vega is making a return; however, not too excited about this roster. I hope Dudley and the Twins make it back. Also was hoping to see Sean make a return, but that’s probably unlikely.
I was just thinking, I think a really great v.skill for Vega would be the dodge from S groove in CvS2. It fits his matador fighting style theme a good bit. I also think it would be pretty cool if his v.trigger gave him even faster speed, short hops and super jumps.
Yeah, I played CvS2 recently and wonder who thought it was a good idea to make Vega feel so slow in SF4
It would be interesting to see Vega in the game. Makes me wonder what kind of V-Trigger state he’ll have. Perhaps a mask-off, damage bonus kind of deal? After it wears off, damage taken increased the same way as it is in Ultra, perhaps; though with some serious tweaks. I would be nice to have a highly mobile Vega again.
Doing FBA-feints (safe) rather than landing and doing a little spring-bounce, only to get punished full screen for free. Even angled SHC would be nice. Rather than have it travel plainly across the screen with a boat load of recovery. I will say, I’d love to see a fast RCF for a change. At least something very SF2-esque, or dare I ask for an RCF that was in CvS2. Pressure based Vega, some footsie application as the game looks very fundamentally strong with a plethora of options to really make a character play to whoever decides to wield them.
I’m really afraid at this point. Because Capcom changes every char this way or another drastically. If Vega is in, I just hope they won’t ruin the char with some very stupid changes to his appearance or storyline. I don’t want him to be in the game if his face gets ruined (it is a very easy and cheesy twist) or he has gone full psycho (destroying all the char’s depth of personality). I really don’t. Find something original that doesn’t suit the “evil guys lose” cliche.
Actually, after the recent new info we got at Evo I think its more probable than ever that we will see him in SFV. Not in the first 16 but most definitely as a DLC char. Capcom made pretty clear that this game will only be finished when there is no more demand from the users, until then they will keep adding characters. He is popular enough to appear and he has the unique play-stye in the first place Capcom is going for in this iteration.
I also think that we will indeed see a change in appearance if he makes it in the game (see Birdie and Ken). A heavenly disfigured Vega would be the most plausible. I would not care in the slightest, as long as playing him feels familiar.
Too bad the “leak” posted here earlier that already confirmed him proved to be BS.
The problem with a disfigured Vega is that it is the first thing that comes to anyone’s mind. “Here’s a guy who thinks he is so handsome that he protects his face. What would a nice twist for him be? Hmm. Let’s have his face ruined” It’s so banal. We even saw it in the Chun fight scene and even that comical SF movie. ANYONE can think of that. And he is not such a pure-evil char to deserve a downfall of that scale.
Other than that, it brings with itself three problems:
1- If someone from the cast did that, this means they should declare that char dead. As it is for sure that Vega would kill that person who did the most horrible think he can think of. There is no way he would let him or her live another day.
2- Having his face disfigured means we will see a maskless Vega, as there will be no reason for him to protect his face anymore. Mask and claw are his signatures. And I don’t want a maskless Vega. His mask is incredibly beautiful.
3- And so what now? They have made his whole storyline about his beauty and how he wants to protect it till eternity. Now he doesn’t have it. Will he go just plain maniac? Or will he just become another of the bunch who are after some kind of a revenge? Spare me.
Ruined face? Even more reason to wear a mask (phantom of the opera style)
That is exactly the kind of story arc I think Capcom would come up with. Lets be honest here, the whole Street Fighter universe is nothing to lose yourself in. This would all (bad as it may be) fit perfectly - it’s Capcom after all
The “ruined face” thing would be way too cliche. Personally, I wouldn’t mind learning more about how he and Balrog were recruited by Bison, plus I would like to see him more fleshed out in a lot of ways (not just his relationships with Cammy and Chun-Li).
As if he isn’t already cliche? The pretty nobleman who has a taste for the finer, more beautiful things in life and is also a sadistic bastard on the inside. I’d be fine with him getting scarred and wearing a mask to hide it. I do like The Phantom of the Opera a lot, so that would sit well with me. He could also lose his sanity to the point where he believes his mask is his face, and refuses to take it off since he no longer believes his real face is his. Him being angry when his mask is knocked off and hitting for more damage would fit very well with that, being even more furious now that his real face is shown and everyone knows he is no longer perfect.
I suppose that could also work for him as he ages, he refuses to believe it and wears the mask as his real face.
Regardless, SF isn’t known for a strong story so who really cares? I care more about how he plays. Story is only a bonus and always has been.
Necalli looks like some serious business. Extremely nasty fighting style. To fit in with the scarred face story, perhaps Vega had a run in with Necalli. Bison sends him to find out the source of Necalli’s mysterious power to harness it for his own. Necalli, a wild fighter who seems used to living a life of hunter and prey, senses a predator watching him, hunts the hunter to figure out where Vega is hiding and does battle. At first, Vega has the upper hand because of his speed, but then Necalli uses Culminated Power to knock Vega back, in the process, knocking his mask off, and then goes into Torrent of Power. Though stronger when in a furor over losing his mask and fighting harder to protect his face, Vega is unprepared for the increase in speed, power, and offense Necalli posseses in this state, and though he puts up a good fight, he loses the upper hand. Necalli, who seems to love grabbing motherfuckers by the face and smashing them on the wall, does so to Vega in turn, scarring his face. Factor in Necalli’s claw slashing fighting style, it would make sense Vega would get scarred in the process of fighting Necalli in this state.
Vega quits working for Shadaloo in SF5, then has a one track state of mind focusing solely on seeking revenge, which is why he is in the game as Necalli has come out of hiding to wreck people’s shit.
I’d be ok with a scenario like this. It fits within the context of SF canon. Bison is always looking for some new way to power up, Necalli has a mysterious power and no doubt Bison would want it. Bison is in the game, and he always uses underlings to figure shit out for him. Vega being his trusted assassin would make the most sense to send on a stealth mission scouting who and what Necalli is, and once he finds out, to kill him or bring him back alive for experimentation. Necalli also seems like the type who wouldn’t be subdued so easy, so him beating Vega in this encounter would make sense, especially if Torrent of Power wasn’t known to Bison.
What would make me even more happy? If they leave Vega alone for the most part and give him a new costume instead and some cool new tricks. Perhaps his off hand can have a gauntlet of sorts he uses for defensive maneuvers.
First of all, answering your question “so who really cares?”, I do.
I don’t care for any other char in any other game this much. I’m not into video games as much as I was because of the current period in my life. But I never stopped playing SF.
I didn’t play 3S because Vega was not in.
I find every SF char uninteresting in some way.
If someone told me that I was going to have a fighting game char’s figurine in the middle of my room, I’d not take that person seriously. But Vega is a different thing. I love the char. I never even had a secondary char in SF4.
Every other char in SF is boring compared to him. And I see nothing cliche about him. He is the most original product by Capcom.
That’s why, although it is well thought, I have to say no to your scenario.
If Capcom was seeing Vega as a pure-evil psycho, they wouldn’t let him rescue Cammy, or give such a tragic background to Vega. It’s clear that he was not intended to become a “plain crazy evil guy”. That’s why I want him to stay like that, and Capcom to stay away from cliche twists for the char.
He stole Bison’s data at the ending for SF4. Let him have the information, and try to find the sources to put that information into use to become an immortal. He will betray Bison and give all of his datas to Chun and Guile and disappear from the scene, and become a forever alone man who stands all by himself with no friends, no family, no boss and no relationships. His reason for participating in the tournaments is just to find a body, to use its life force to prolong his own life. Thus, in every game he is in, a char from that game dies at his hands. And Vega disappears once again into the shadows.
Anyway, whatever the change they have in stock for him, I don’t want it to be “that char who protects his face? Guess what, his face is ruined!”
But do you care more about how he plays or his story? It’s always been his play style that spoke to me more than anything. I couldn’t care less about the story if he plays right. I care more about that than fleshing out some stuff that doesn’t matter in the over all scheme of things. Vega has always been my main in any games he is in because of how he plays. He’s a great hit and run character. That’s what makes him unique.
Cliche? Hell yes he is. I could look to a hundred anime/manga for the beautiful evil man trope which is common in Japanese pop culture. It’s everywhere. Most original product by Capcom? Capcom has a ton of original characters that are just as unique as him as far as visual design goes, and while not as visually original, Dhalsim has a very unique play style to him, just as unique as Vega’s.
Vega may not be pure evil psycho but he’s pretty far up there. He rescued Cammy because he wants a strong, beautiful opponent to be his worthy foe and perpetually fight him. He didn’t do it for any good purpose or out of the kindness of his heart. It’s superficial, skin deep. Say he was scarred, he would seek revenge. That doesn’t mean he’s plain crazy evil. Regardless, he IS on the crazy evil side of things, and it would fit with his character. You may think it’s cliche, but it’s also cliche for the beautiful villain to seek out eternal youth, a trope used a million times as well.
Whatever they have in store, I don’t really care as long as the core play mechanics that make Vega, Vega, are in the game. If they changed his play style to be shoto but kept his story and character 100% in tact and visually the same as every other game, that would destroy the character far more than scarring his face in his background story because play style > story.
