Sf5 ps4pro 1.00 vs 2.04

Actual dev here: I wouldn’t expect an improvement in framerate. Fighting games have a locked framerate and in multiplayer you want to keep the number of frames fixed. The resolution is also fixed for this reason. This means we’re unlikely to see any improvements out of the box and it will require a patch. Where it can certainly help is with rendering/resolutions and shader output. The reason the shadows on the PS4 version look so bad is probably related to the shadow algorithm used. In some cases, in order to make the shadow quicker to render, developers will use a sampling technique rather than draw the whole model projected on another surface (which is expensive because math). This is usually handled in a shader. Better GPUs usually boast an improved number of shader units (sometimes referred to as compute units). The Pro has the theoretical ability to do more math so that it could switch from the current shader to a better shader and improve on the shadows (which is what the PC version probably does when you change settings). This applies to other things like lighting and anti aliasing (i.e. the jaggies you see in the PS4 version are far more pronounced than on the PC version). The main cost of doing this is having to write a new shader specifically for the PS4 gpu. If they want to do things properly they should also provide settings to turn the better shaders on/off, set the resolution, etc. Finally they have to push the update which requires both validation on their end and also validation on Sony’s end. It’s not as trivial as it sounds. Given how slow Capcom has been at updating the title and fixing bugs/adding features I suspect they don’t have a very large dev team. It’s also unknown how well the new console will sell and so somewhat hard to justify using limited resources to do a title update patch.

I don’t know that Capcom has a really compelling reason to justify doing this. It’s either going to come from fans requesting the feature or Sony.

The deals for capcom cup were probably made long ago, I don’t see Sony opting to dump more money into this flopped game right now.

Most of peoples issues (input lag, missing features, model clipping, general game direction) had nothing to do with hardware limitations anyway, asking players to pony up for a new game version (not to mention a new console) to fix any of them wouldn’t go over well.

If the only thing a new version offered was graphical upgrades like higher resolution and better shadows, the vast, vast majority of pre-existing owners wouldn’t touch it.

I still don’t understand why they could not duplicate the frames (on pc) so that we can play in 120fps.
I’ve tried playing 3rd strike and Alpha 2 with MAME blank frame insertion + Blur Reduction. It is almost CRT level of goodness.

Frame rate being fixed doesn’t mean you can’t improve the frame rate and bring it to constant 60fps instead of having regular drops like most stages on PS4 do.

Capcom would have to patch it. The game is capped on FPS and graphical settings.

I wonder why anyone is thinking about a PS4 Pro…PS4 is just fine

I think consoles are gonna be numberless or “generation” tiered from now on.
Which is good for backwards compatibility but it will get to a point where the ps4 will be doing old 3ds fps lol.

The ps4 pro will be using most of the exact same parts at a higher cpu speed so the answer to that is definitely no.
Consoles are doing a fine job for how much they are.

Eventually. It’s a chance for a proper relaunch and redemption.

I just want 60fps locked and less input lag. Hopefully it’s possible, even on regular PS4s.

From the perspective of a PC player, the first time I played the PS4 version, it very obviously looked worse and loaded a helluva lot slower.

The PS4 and (especially) Xbone were mediocre the day they came out.

PS4 shadow vs PC shadow (just 1080p max settings)

I’d prefer if consoles toned down anything they could so all games ran at 60fps no dipping than a slightly upgraded machine.
Movie games exception [Beyond two Souls etc] Those could be cranked as far as they could without dipping to 15fps.

I’d get an xbox one or ps4 if every game minus the heavy cinematic ones were 60fps minimum.

I am not even talking about 4K, I couldn’t care less about it. But graphical improvements and more stable frame rate on 1080p are musts imo. I play on PC, but I hear that the PS4 version has occasional dips on fps.

If im thinking about a PS Pro, i rather go for a PC and get at least a GTX970

PS4 version has the weird dot matrix looking shadows everywhere. This has nothing to do with the power of the console and more to do with lazy development work and optimization. You know how I know? Ever play Metal Gear Solid V or see what it looks like on ps4? Capcom has no excuse. We’re talking about the same guy that can’t manage 60fps with 2 characters on screen, not to mention, how bad UMVC3 dropped frames on sony consoles.

Even if Capcom did release a PRO-patch for SFV, at best what that would do would be:

  • tweak the graphical settings to equal PC quality (effects, textures, etc)
  • fix the dhadow dithering
  • improve the load times both offline and online
  • MAYBE decrease the input lag by a couple of frames (if the 8 frames issue is caused by PS4’s hardware, since it’s like 6 frames on PC)
  • higher quality models and backgrounds on stages

So it’s basically worthless

Maybe the PRO will be so powerful that it will allow the 2nd player to interact with the menu after a local match.

Pure genius!

Spoiler

In before you have to spend 100k fight money to get that feature.

Considering how slick Tekken looks and how gorgeous SoulCaliburVI will be.

They are definitely gonna want to give us Super Street Fighter 5K! I just want more textures and less slow down mid ex moves and crit arts!

Worthless? Improved load times, less input lag, and better graphics sound like pretty great things. And I hear the PS4 game suffers from frame rate drops, so they could eliminate that as well.
