SF5, New Players and the FGC

Releasing characters in increments sucks, its one of the few things I dislike about Killer Instinct. By the time KI realizes its full roster I’m not sure if I’ll still be interested in playing it, what with MKX and SF5 releasing. SF5 should release the vanilla game whenever it releases, then have a character expansion once a year.

They never said it was going to be free to play. They said they wanted to avoid releasing further discs with prefixes and so. That means you buy the game once, but the every further update are going to be actual DLC (and not talking about “disc-locked”… but who knows with) and there will be no extra retail discs.
Maybe they even drop physical format, now that I think about it.

That sounds more like Ono saying they won’t have add-ons that sway the balance of the game like SFxT gems…also not sure some peeps here understand the difference between pay-to-win and free-2-play.

Dunno why anyone would be against a F2P model like KI, unless they’re just an idiot.
It’s more than a basic demo, it actively let’s you participate in the game’s environment, and a lot of my casual friends bought KI cuz F2P mode kinda guaranteed wat they would be buying to a degree.
After SF4, I would sure like to see how the game runs, particularly online, since Capcom has such an amazing track record of getting shit right on the first try.

Oh , excuse me for wanting a full retail game instead of a cock tease. I’m such a bad person.

“Hey, Ken is being released in two months, i can’t fucking wait”

Well fuck.
RIP Fighting games. It’s been a fun ride, but the developers will never learn.
I’ll stay with what’s left of you in the future, though

EDIT: I 100% take this back after watching capcom cup.

You’re looking at it one-way. A F2P fighting game can be a full retail game. 16 characters, 24 characters at launch, story mode, whatever.

The idea with F2P is that you don’t have to buy the full roster of characters if you don’t want to. New players that just want to demo the game with the “free character of the month” can see if they like the game/character. And when Capcom updates the game to Super SFV, you don’t have go out and buy a whole new disc to experience it. It will update for everyone who has SFV vanilla, and you can buy the Super SFV characters if you want them.

But it’s confirmed not to be F2P, so no worries. Lol

I don’t have to explain why myself and many others dislike/hate the f2p model. I’m not gonna sit here and write your shitass
a list of why that is. You go figure that one out for yourself. Idiot.

also…

Spoiler

KI is aaasssssssssssssssssss :wtf:

I’m over this. But i still find it funny that some of you wanted a f2p model of Street Fighter. If you take a look at most f2p games you’ll notice that it’s done by smaller developers. So expecting it to be implemented in such a flagship game like SFV is ridiculous.

The ppl that actually own F2P fighting games, like myself, are just squashing misconceptions.

I’m cool with SFV or any fighting game going either way. But I understand that what Street Fighter does with releasing a new disc iteration every 2-3 years is tradition, so many do not want to stray from that.

I have no issues with the model, make your money whatever way you see fit. But expecting Killer Instinct to set the standards for fighting games moving forward is ridiculous

I just can’t see Tekken, KOF or any other big fighters adopting this method anytime soon. A revived fighting game from the past, maybe.

Oh, so your idiot senses were tingling I see, lol

Really, though, if you’re planning to buy full retail version of the game anyways, what do you even care if there’s a F2P model for it, even though a “full retail game” is pretty much an oxymoron when it comes to Capcom fighting games.
Not really sure what you’re feeling all vindicated about…considering most players are wary about spending $60 on a most likely incomplete game nowadays anyways. You’d figure a workable F2P model that let’s u experience how the game runs would be embraced, especially in the FGC and by Capcom fans who every reason to be extremely wary about what they buying.

And what cocktease are u referencing? KI had combo breaker pack with 8 characters at launch alongside F2P version. Season 2 DLC announced as 8 characters, and instead of waiting 6-9 months to play any of them and it being the usual debacle of character issues(see Ultra SF4) upon release, the characters are more gradually integrated so you’re not just…waiting.

Most likely SFV will follow the SFxT model, as it will easily allow them to sidestep Super SFV release: One Disc, Shitloads of DLC, version updates signified as SFV 1.2, 2.0 etc. There’s alot of nice stuff they could learn from KI.

Xbox poo poo.

Pointless, dedicated servers would actually ruin the experience because fighting games are best played peer-to-peer.
