veery true, i for one am no fan of hori products and feel that madcatz have done the arcade stick both te &se justice, but should of spent more time in ironing out the finer details.
Just thought I’d let you guys know what I found out yesterday…
My SE stick was getting stuck occasionally, right? I’ve already ordered replacement parts, but I thought I should try and take the stick apart and glue the washer down.
Things were pretty much ok until I got to the mounting plate. 3 screws came out just fine. The 4th one, however, WOULD NOT FUCKING MOVE. I was trying so hard to get it out I pretty much stripped out the + indentation on the screw! I drilled it, I tried to chisel at it, IT WOULD NOT BE MOVED. I ended up having to GRIND off the top of the screw just so I could get the plate off for my Sanwa that I ordered!
When I finally got the plate off, I saw what the deal was. The underside of the plate was covered in that red gel stuff they put on the screws. The problem with that is that it got IN the threads and basically hardened the screw into the joystick!
The moral is, if you plan on modding this stick, you need to get a plate & your own screws. If you are lucky enough to get the mounting board off on your own, congrats. I wouldn’t count on it though.
LOL I know you’re going through some issues but dude you’re freaking hilarious!
“Look at him! Look at that motherfucker! He just loves to fucking jump! Serious love for jumping right now! Fucking wonderful!” lol
I really shouldn’t laugh, but goddamn. Make more movies imo.
oh, come to find out the void warranty sticker on the bottom of the stick looks like it was already tampered with. they’re doing something shady over there.
I just bought the stick the other day and Im experiencing the same shit. Ive never had a stick until now, so its kinda fucked up that MadCatz would hype up a this product only for it to fail in the end. Im really fucking pissed at this and I think ill just stick to using controllers.
Before I return this to gamestop, I was thinking about fixing it myself. From what Ive read, the washer thing on the stick seems to be the problem, right? I think ima try to glue it down and if that dont work, ill just take it back and get my money back
some of you keep advising to just replace the joystick, but that not the point here…The point is that this is a poorly made product and it’s scary to me that the same issues are happening to multiple people. And those of you saying that only people who are having issues post here don’t realize that some people don’t use their joysticks as frequently as others. Like the OP said, the metal piece grinds down the pcb, so who knows how many are out there are waiting for that moment when it actually grinds down far enough and start sticking?
I don’t understand why some of you are willing to live with a manufacturing defect. Even if you are going to swap out the joystick and/or buttons, you don’t feel any bit of being cheated out of your money by buying a defective product? You spent $70 on a stick that’s does not even come with authentic arcade parts and doesn’t work right out of the box or after being used for less than a week. I have 2 HRAP3’s and it works PERFECTLY from day 1. That’s what a quality product should be. Heck, that what any product released to consumers should be…
was that a bong on the table?
well to be honest when mad catz made this stick i dont think that they actually thought people were going to play it stock…Thats why they made it super easy to modd. I think there are more people out there with custom or modded sticks in general then people who buy a cheap stick and use it with the same parts forever. If you buy a used car for $200 dollars do you expect it to run like a champ?? A car for $200 might be a steal for a mechanic… Bottom line is you get what you pay for.
That vid was really informative LordofUltima. Shame about all your troubles… now go clean your room.
Everyone is so busy bitching and trolling in this thread that no one bothered to answer this simple question… No, Happ/iL buttons won’t fit. They’re too tall.
Also, while we’re banning Mikey for his racial slurs, can we lose Bandito?
The 90s called, it wants its hetero-normative pejoratives back.
That’s all well and good but this isn’t a used product, it’s a brand new product and I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect it to actually work without replacing half of the parts. It’s called a fightstick not a build your own stick kit. If you really want to use a car analogy lets call a $150+ custom/moded stick a Porsche and lets call the $79.99 fight stick a Hyundai. I would expect both of them to actually be drivable when purchased new.
So I was thinking about modding my SE for better parts, but mine is no longer registering any Up commands on the stick. Am I too late, does this mean the PCB is toast, or would it still be worth buying a JLF from LL?
new record, 1 day stick fucking doesnt register left. wooo lol
This is soo wrong is soo many ways. If they expected you to mod it then they should have not even made the stick/buttons. and given you the shell for $50. Also Madcatz has stated numerous times and have sworn by NOT modding the regular one. Your car analogy is not even right. The point is not a car, it’s the point that it’s new. I don’t expect it run like a champ, but I expect it to run. and not scratch itself while I going 40/hr.
You sir should work for MadCatz.
Ugh I’m planning to get the SE, and was going to wait on parts, but looking at this, it doesn’t seem like I can wait at all.
This is what we get for being the first adopters of a product, all the bugs -.-
I think some of you are quitting before you even try to stretch out your legs for the big race. Just because you’ve read some people on this forum that defects in their SE sticks doesn’t mean you should return your reserved/pre-ordered/bought SE stick without trying it first. There are perfectly good ones out there and what you see here is minority of people who got their sticks albeit their calls/feelings are justified. Yes, we shouldn’t have to open our cases to fix a defect of a new product.
MarkMan has said that Madcatz will support those with problems with or without warranty voided, atleast for now. Look for his posts in this thread and in the MC sticky thread.
To what at least one person said about having to mod/fix their washer in their stick even if there is no observable problems with the joystick, that is not true. If you don’t experience any stuck inputs with the joystick, that is, the feeling of having it get stuck to a certain direction or seeing that a direction input does get stuck in-game or otherwise to a direction that it shouldn’t be in and all inputs are working normally, then you do not need to fix the washer in the joystick.
From my experience, the only way you’d be getting this seemingly common problem is if the washer is loose. So therefore, if the joystick is working fine like it should = no need to void your warranty and fix the washer within the joystick. In other words, It would not damage the PCB if its working fine, at least not from the washer.
<3 your video. “Quality parts my ass, quality assurance my ass” This is exactly how i felt when i got my stick . Very angry with a new product that doesnt work. I really have no interest to send my broken shit to mc and wait 4-6 weeks for them to fix a brand fking new product that DOA. Its too time consuming and i dont want to be without a joystick when the game comes out. looks like i just gonna grind the pcb till the whole board turn to sand and rma it later days
I picked up a SE X360 from Gramecrazy on friday. No scratches or anything.
Only thing wrong with it is that the up-left direction is sorta wonky. You can’t actually go right to the corner, you have go a little towards the up position to for it to register the up switch.
But other then that little hiccup, it very much is “Green Goblin” quality. In the past couple of days it has seen about 16 hours of gameplay and it’s still going like a champ.
I’m gonna swap out everything for Sanwa, or I would take it back and get a new one.
I’m going to replace mine with Sanwa parts right when I get it but is the problem that the screws get broken/stuck on the mountingplate common?
yes
they way the put that red gel on it seems to commonly get caught in the screw area and make it nearly impossible to unscrew
have fun
really another US company needs to come out and make sticks… logitech maybe?
these are 80-150 dollar sticks and to have DEFECTS that ruin them is fucking ridiculous, not to mention the high % of button failure etc, shoddy worksmanship, and fucked up screws. again if you stick is sticking at ALL, return it asap.
THere is NOTHING high quality about this. Mad Catz is still Mad Shitz (the design of the sticks is awesome, so I cant blame markman etc… but the quality of assembly and manufacture is grade A shit.) Seriously, Mad Catz is fucking ripping off sooo many people with this BS. Imagine all the NEW SF4 players who buy a SE stick to have it not working within a few days
Capcom better have a diff company do official sticks from now on, just have them hire markman and actually have decent parts/assembly.
:wonder:
