SF4 Standard Edition FightStick - Problem / Defect Thread

fightstick > hori

out of the box and easier to mod

Because it’s not broken. It’s not getting stuck, and my buttons work ridiculously well.

I’m also not looking to burn someone at the stake for what could possibly be minority issues. Nobody is going to come to the forum to say how “awesome” this control is. 80% of the people who are going to come here have issues. The rest of them are either happy with it, or not using it all that much. They aren’t going to make threads saying how wonderful they are. That’s redundant. They would rather play with it.

In other words, just because this thread exists doesn’t mean the thing is a failure. You could go to the iPod forums and swear the device is a piece of crap that never works and is constantly at tech support but you know better don’t you? You could swear by browsing forum after forum that everybodies 360 is having the RROD, when mine hasn’t and it’s a launch system.

In other words, I know you’re pissed, but as long as the company itself OWNS up to their mistakes, then there is no reason to freak out over the issue. If Mad Catz does NOT own up to it, that’s another thing. That’s the purpose of my post, and should be the purpose of all of ours.

Pitching a fit may be “cool” for some, but it does nothing for the rest of us. The rest of us either are enjoying the product, or still stuck with a broke device. Nerd-raging over it helps neither side.

The helpful people in this thread posting information on how to repair the issues themselves, or to get the parts are. Let’s try to keep it in that direction. Obviously this thread exists because there are problems, but let’s not just stay in this imaginary world where the device has a 100% fail rate in our minds. Down that road lies ridiculousness.

Would anyone still recommend the SE fightstick over the Hori EX2?

Yes. Easily. If you’re so concerned, be a pad player for a few more weeks and wait for something official from Mad Catz. Perhaps wait for a second run. (This isn’t the first time early adopters have seen issues of this scale. Look at the people who bought the Apple iPhone.) You can wait if your budget is really that tight. If not, dude, seriously… these things are selling like hot cakes. As serious as the issues in this thread are, it’s a handful of the sales going on nationwide at the moment. Let’s keep things in perspective.

Lol. Interestingly I bit the bullet and ordered one of these cpl days ago since I couldn’t wait much longer for Amazon to ship the SE version. Paid a bit more but now I’m glad I did. I had another SE on order for Player 2, but uh… cancelling that for now until this rather common problem will be addressed. Cancelled my PS3 ones too =P. Hopefully the TE’s will have had much better QC.

Thanks for this thread though. It really helps some of us, still on the waiting list, to decide on other options for the main event.

My bro might get a fightstick.

TotalRecall,

I don’t have personal experiences with the madcatz sticks, but I do with the hori ones.

The hori ex2 is a low grade stick. The materials feel quite cheap and the response of the buttons and stick are both subpar. It’s a difficult stick to mod, and I know for a fact the stick isn’t as ergonomic as the SE stick.

There is one thing I can vouch for though as far as the hori goes… It works fine and it has never given me any issues.

If it’s your first stick and you aren’t that critical about quality, then the hori may not be a bad choice. The SE stick is definitely better in almost every way, except the fact that there are 5 pages of defects right now.

We all have choices as consumers. Your advice is sound.

Are you on crack? How exactly is it better when it doesn’t work properly? Not everyone can or will mod their stick.

Well, you forget about a few posts on here saying how several Gamestops and Fry’s have stated repeated returns for similar issues. This also suggests there are many othe returns and issues that are not made aware on this thread.

Markman himself have acknowledged this problem. So obviously something went wrong, and IS a cause for concern.

And most people bought this stick as their very first Stick, considering the marketing and Seth Killian and Markman attesting to the new and improved Madcatz quality. A lot of those people feel decieved and it’s understandable they need to flare out. They paid ~$80 for it, didn’t work, and likely stuck without a good stick for the game launch. I think they deserve a little rage. You certainly can’t expect them to be Happy can you?

You’re fortunate yours is working great. But unless you’re one of those who were burned, you really can’t just tell ppl to calm down and expect them to listen without incident. Some may cool down, some are just really pissed, with good reason.

And I don’t think Madcatz has officially owned up to this issue yet. So until they do and make it easy for people to return their stick, I say flame on and let Madcatz know this is unacceptable.

But lets not let the flame war digress upon each other. This is toward Madcatz.

Just my opinion anyway.

Whoops! I meant for that message to be for TotalRecall.

Hehe thanks for the reply though.

I agree with this completely. It really is too late for them to do anything by Tuesday. Very disappointing turn of events considering the hype over the product. We all saw the Youtube movies of them creaming over these sticks. So yes, I understand where you’re coming from with this.

Here’s hoping we see a thread by Monday on this issue. Can’t turn back time, but they can give these players some guarantee that they will have this fixed. Even if it means working with retailers to offer clean swaps for new devices.

Wrong, his is broken too. He’s a tool defending MadCatz.

Yeah… my monitor got sticky after I watched those youtube videos =P.

But I was a bit late on the news and everything was about gone from pre-orders. I might’ve made TE order through BestBuy and really hope the QC was better on those sticks.

I made later orders for the SE sicks for the secondary players, but didn’t make it earlier enough to get the stick by now. Which right now seems like a good thing. I’m a bit dissapointed at the news right now, but I don’t “Hate” Madcatz. I still want a SE stick, but now I’m gonna wait for their new “fixed” batches. Had I gotten a stick early and had problems, I might’ve blown a fuse and cancel ALL Madcatz orders.

I mean, the fact that MM and SKill contributed to these sticks still make them very hot items. Just gotta get them fixed.

Definitely mixed feelings shakes head.

You’re heart warming.

Lol. Much anger in you, I sense… yessss.

On another note, good call on that racist mofo a few pages back.

oh i apologize

MY FIGHT STICK IS WORKING JUST FINE

It seems this is a widespread defect/problem. I think the best course of action is if your SE stick is sticking at all, to return said stick. Even if it is not sticking, if it is as widespread as it appears I would return the stick/call madcatz anyway. I reserved the fightstick and will probably try and get it voided/return it because of this.

Even if your fightstick is working perfectly, the washer could slowly be ruining the pcb as said above. Which means eventually it will stop working, and the only way to prevent it, or know if it is loose is voiding warranty.

I think selling a defective product like this could lead to some serious ramifications to madcatz beyond reputation. The most logical thing the average consumer should do is report it to gamespot and return the product. If this washer problem is truely on every single stick (which is impossible to know unless people void the warranty).

Can people who modded the stick examine the old one for loose washer?

Even if I buy the stick, as I don’t plan on modding it for a while. I can’t examine it to see if it isn’t defective, and if a month from now it stops working I either have to send it in and wait 6 weeks, or attempt to return it (I doubt that will work). It seems the only real options are mod it, void the warranty, or simply not own the stick.

Man fuck the warranty, Why even worry about it? Its madcatz’s fuck up, Hell its probably on purpose…
Just void that shit and fix/swap what you need, Wait 6 weeks to have your stick replaced, or wait less than 3 for parts?

Yeah, not planning on modding it. A Sanwa JLF-TP-8T from LizardLick with Priority Mail International costs $51.45. And then you still have the buttons to replace. It would end up costing more then a TE >.> I just want a working SE right out of the box, I don’t have 160 euros for a TE, sigh.

Luckily, the guys behind the counter of the gameshop where I’m buying the stick are gamers themselves, they’re getting the TE. I think that if I’m going to pick up the stick I’ll have a talk with them about it and work something out.

Then you’re fucked. Might as well buy a hrap3. Which I still might do :3 The SA version is so sexy.

What site ships HRAP3’s to the Netherlands? Amazon only ships it within the US. As far as I know, the only stick available here know is the Hori EX2.
