SF4 Standard Edition FightStick - Problem / Defect Thread

I got a TE for my 360 and it worked like a dream so I felt good about getting more madcatz products and got the SE for the PS3. Ugh, the stick was super clunky and kept sticking just a little when hitting diagonal up/left and then made a bad crunching sound when bringing it back to the center.

Went back to Fry’s to swap it and the clerks were like “oh, not another one!” Apparently they’ve had a couple of people return them. Second stick was solid though, so there’s definitely some good ones out there.

People should not be buying the streetfighter IV SE stick unless they plan on modding it. Remeber you get what you pay for. Personally this is the best cheap stick i have ever bought. Just for the simple fact it has nice artwork, its small and light. But the best is its realatively easy to modd. If your SE stick is not working or stick is getting stuck you should consider reading this thread. http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=175882 After I modded my stick ( which is what i intended to do before i even recieved it) it has become the best stick i have ever owned…and have owned ALOT lol

go here read page 5 http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=175882

My turbo function has NEVER worked on my SE Fightstick since I opened up and took it out of the box. The little squares light up red when I set a button to turbo but when I hold the button down (and this goes for each button) I only get the first attack, its like I never even set the button in the first place. I have NEVER used turbo on my SE Fightstick. Man, talk about a defective product, I mean RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX!

Oh and I know I didn’t make a mistake because my Fightpad’s turbo works just fine and you set the buttons on that the same way you’re supposed to do the Fightstick.

I wonder what Seth would think about this stick XD!!

Turbo doesn’t work right in HD remix so if that’s what you are testing it on you should try something else.

But the turbo with the fightPAD does work on HD Remix so there’s really no reason why it shouldnt work with my fightstick XD.

here are my issues

buttons are already beginning to stick
I have the PS3 stick and the Home and Turbo buttons aren’t lighting up. Does only the Xbox one light up or is the stick defective?
I prefer it to the Hori stick because of the button layout and quietter stick.
Can I fit Happ buttons in it? If not I’ll just return it.

Well if yours is getting stuck, then it sounds like its having the same problem some of us are having including what I was experiencing. And I did notice very very slight shaving of the PCB within the stock joystick because of the loose washer’s contact with the PCB. So there is a chance it seems, that there is going to be damage with prolonged use.

If you are going to replace the joystick with a Seimitsu LS-32 (you should get the LS-32-01 version with 5 pin connector, the non-01 version has the 5 wires seperated), you don’t have to worry about the PCB problem since we are not talking about the PCBs outside the stock sticks. The Seimitsu LS-32 sticks don’t come with the main PCBs that connect with all the other components (Buttons, etc), but they do come with PCBs within the joystick that are used for of course, the stick’s inputs. I hope that didn’t sound confusing. lol

i stand corrected! You’re right! You’re absolutely right! I just tried turbo in tekken dr and guess what… It freakin works!

Thanks alot, you dont know how close i was to sending it to madcatz to get fixed! I really appreciate it!!!

LMAO, I just exchanged or my 3rd SE stick and guess what? Down direction stopped working.

This is why you don’t hire unskilled malnourished Chinks to work.

And judging by all the other bitching, looks like I ain’t the only one with SE stick probs. So word of warning to all: MADCATZ HAS NOT CHANGED. THEY STILL SUCK CAT BALLS WITH QC. GO WITH THE HORI!!!

Mikey where did u get stick from?..are u in the bay area i see u like the NINERS!

oh man. umm i got my se fightstick today and i dont seem to have any problems with it. this is my first stick and nothing seems to stick at this point or i dont notice it but (knock on wood). hopefully it doesnt and everything goes well.

Lol this is so queer. 8 out of 10 people have problems with their SE. How the fudgicles did Mad Catz not catch any of this… maybe it wouldn’t be as painful if everyone ~cough s-kill cough~ didn’t try to make it seem like these sticks were gonna be so amazingly perfect. I’m not as bad off as some, I just have the sticky stick (lol) problem, which means my PCB will eventually be ground away.

So just a quick question to make sure, will the Seimitsu LS-32-01 or the Sanwa JLFs fit and work fine in these from out of the box and into the stick? Will I have to grind down or sand paper anything?

Turbo most certainly works with the fightstick in HD Remix, I’ve done it quite a bit.

Sanwa JLF with flat mounting plate or use the mounting plate on it already… and Seimitsu LS-32-01 will fit np.

I like how this dude just ignores all the rest of the problems such as sticky sticks, malfunctioning buttons, a PCB that’s cannibalizing itself lmao.

I’ll defend Markman all day, right now my stick is working fine. (Though am already seeing issues with Down and down right not responding sometimes. I blame my own lack of skill with the stick… but this is going to start fading real soon.)

Some kind of announcement about these issues, officially, and how the warranty is going to be represented before things get hairy.

For example earlier in this thread you said to call MC and they can take care of issues even if it’s been opened. This needs to be made official. Or not, if my own stick starts to have issues I will not be modding it. I will be forced to return it.

This sucks, as I have plans on modding this case. Been working on it for some time now, since you handed out the templates.

If I see some official recognition of these issues, and have complete confidence that I will be taken care of as a customer then what reason would I have to return the device? I have 30 days to do a clean refund, I really hope MC has some kind of official word on this matter by then.

This is one of the most fun, solid pieces I’ve ever seen come out of MC. I want to celebrate it.

Good luck with this MM.

This thread is scaring the shit out of me
Because my SE Fightstick sticks sometimes too when I do multiple tiger shots. It’ll get stuck towards the right and center or right and down and the character starts to go on its own. Also hope that stick isn’t destroying itself each time I use it. And I can’t mod it at the moment cause I’m too broke to afford anything right now

You sir, are a racist dumbfuck. I hate people like you who hide behind the computer using racial slurs. You would get your ass hadokened in public. This is MadCatz’s fault. They are the ones that designed it, they are the ones that failed QC.

How the fuck can you keep defending this piece of shit product when your own stick is not even working right?

This is like buying a pet from a shady breeder and having it die on you during the first week. I don’t mind if the sticks are sticky or if the buttons are … unresponsive…BUT IF THE DAMN PRODUCT DOESN’T WORK (3 OF THEM I MIGHT ADD) something is wrong.

I made another post some days ago where I asked if I should go for the cheaper Hori EX2 as my first stick or the SE fightstick and mostly everyone in that thread claimed that the SE fightstick was the better option because of better parts and easier modding.

After reading all this I guess the ones that answered in that thread only based their facts upon what they read beforehand and that the people who have really tested it says it’s no good.

Would anyone still recommend the SE fightstick over the Hori EX2? I mean, I don’t wan’t to buy the stick, find out it’s broken then have to mod it with Sanwa parts, making it just as expensive as the TE fightstick (I am looking for a cheap alternative, since it’s my first).

Sorry if I am making no sense or shouldn’t be posting this here, if that is the case I will remove this post and make another one.
