I’d like to know this as well as sometimes my entire top row of buttons stops working all together.
not if they’re still made by madcatz
In the UK Maplins, Tool station and B&Q sell them. Elsewhere they should be really common in hardware stores.
Forget it, it looks and feels really nice but this thread freaks me out too much, just going to get a refund =p good thing I already have a HRAP3 was just getting a SE because I like the look.
i just purchased a new SE stick today! im wondering how bad is the grinding noise that everyone is saying? it is a distinct sound? if i pull up on my joystick it can be pulled up and then placed back down… i donno if its supposed to do this.
Also when i move up down left and right right before the normal click sound i hear a little noise. like a very very quiet low pitched squeek… kinda… haha its hard to describe its like trying to close a door slowly and it creaks a little? i guess thats the sound but its very quiet and you can ONLY notice it when you put your ear to the joy stick. But it doesnt provide any resistance to moving the stick at all.
Is this problem just the spring that im hearing? or could it be potentially be the washer?
Like i said i just bought it brand new at my local gamestop today.
My SE got in the mail the other day but I haven’t been able to open it yet. So should I do the washer trick or just toss the stick away? Cause I have a LS-32 and a JLF 8Y coming so I don’t think I’ll have use for the stick…
I’ve been reading and it just looks like shittey soldering jobs by madcatz on the side. If anyone with a multimeter can do some tests we can really find out whats wrong. I’m pretty sure the unresponsive buttons can be caused because of failed soldering joints. The on and off button may be that the PCB isn’t receiving power from the USB cable, so you really need a multimeter to check whats going on. I mean if all else fails, why not just use the case as the bases and change out the PCB and get a hacked wired PCB?
I mean… some of you may not have the technical experiences as others but it shouldn’t be too hard right?
I did my own padhack with zero technical/soldering knowledge. It’s pretty easy.
why do ppl keep on buying these things?
thanks guys!
ill try that website out!
Because they’re really easy to mod. That’s what keeps me from picking up the Hori EX2.
the short button on my hori stick is starting to die. Extremely frustrating. Even worse the button registers as two presses when i’m only pressing it ONE time. Replacing buttons on a hori stick is a pain because the pcb is soldered right onto the buttons. The fightstick and TE sticks aren’t. Just buy yourself a nice sanwa button… and swap them. And your done.

To rip people off and make big profits on ebay.

Joe Public doesn’t know how lame Mad Catz stuff is.

They’re very easy to mod and even after swapping in a JLF and 8 Sanwa buttons, it works out much cheaper than a TE
hey guys, do any of you have the problem where some buttons will stop working, but then work again if you disconnect/reconnect to your 360?
anyone?
I’m getting the same problem as you kupop. Sometimes it’s just HK and KKK, others it’s an entire row. At first I thought it was the Start button 'cause it happened somewhat consistently when going into the training mode menu, but it happened a couple of times when I played online matches. I also got direction lock but it hasn’t happened recently.
The stick even died out twice and the “Please reconnect controller” box popped up. All of these problems can be resolved temporarily by unplugging and replugging the stick (I disconnect the part that connects the stick and the USB end 'cause it’s closer heh).
I’m guessing it’s a defective PCB? My stick and buttons were immediately swapped with Sanwa parts…
Maybe I should hold off swapping my stick? I don’t want the main PCB to die after swapping and no warranty is covered…:shake:
I got my modded SE from a friend on Monday and the stick/buttons work great (swapped stock with Sanwa). The only problem I am having is that my PC will not recognize the stick at all. It will recognize a Xbox 360 controller perfectly fine though. I also downloaded the latest drivers from Microsoft’s site and still no dice. The 4 lights will light up, then go off and that’s all I can get it to do.
I plug my modded se into port 2 and I have not had one problem since with buttons sticking. I know it sounds crazy, but give it a try!
I hope this is the right thread to ask this question.
I have a PS3 Arcade stick (my first stick). I have ordered some Sanwa parts (buttons and joystick) to put in there but in the mean time my X button has become very unresponsive, sometimes not registering at all.
Will replacing the buttons fix this, or shall I send it back to Madcatz for fixing before I open the case? I live in Bristol, UK which is where their repair centre is so shouldn’t take too long.
Has anyone received an SE from the April batch? I’ve got one on the way, and I want to know whether there’s a definite improvement in the joystick/washer problem. MarkMan said that the April batch would be an improvement, so again – curious if this is true or not.
