SF4 Standard Edition FightStick - Problem / Defect Thread

yes, i’m just calling it “lead” because thats what people know it by. Anything no.2, or HB softness will work, make sure you test the connection in windows’ control panel before you seal it up with tape.

it works, i’ve tried it with 2 sticks. i’ve already fixed Gootecks’ stick with it, and we all know how much he plays.

albiet its not a permanent fix, but it should last long enough for my lizardlick parts to arrive.

(btw, thanks for ruining the forum layout with the gigantic picture)

I have read a couple hundred posts in this thread and here is my predicament:

I have the SE stick and at first it worked “OK”. The stick physically felt kind of janky and must be that darn washer. Than after about 4 days of training with it, I noticed my guy would stay crouched and the stick was physically slightly stuck down-left. If I wiggled the stick around enough it would return back neutral. I ordered a new Joystick and new Buttons off lizardlicks at this point (about 10 days ago) knowing that this thing was bound to break. Things changed last night… I was playing online and suddenly I could not move left at all. No response to down-left, left, or up-left at all. Tried restarting the xbox etc with no luck. Now I have a whole new joystick assembly and buttons coming from Lizardlicks which will probably be another week or 2 (darn delays of SF4). I want to open the pad up to see whats wrong exactly but as you guys said before, if theres no inputs of a certain direction it could be the PCB board itself. Does it sound like the PCB board is bad and I am going to be worse-off voiding my warranty? If I just take the warranty sticker off and say it came like that (since other users said their’s didn’t even come with one) will that work? lol Thanks in advance

If your replacing the joystick anyway then go ahead and open it up, the PCB that is getting rubbed by the washer is the PCB thats on the joystick and you will be getting a new PCB with your new joystick.

OK I have taken out the joystick assembly and have it in my hand. I am now on the step where I am supposed to remove the clear plastic plate. How the hell do you engage all 4 black plastic tabs at the same time to get this thing off. If I try to do 1 tab at a time, i would have to hold down each one that I complete. Doesn’t make sense to me

try two at a time, and make sure they’re opposite of each other…once you get those two, try for a third and you should be set after that

I’m having the same problem but it’s my bottom left button. I had placed an order for new buttons and sticks but will the buttons fix the issue or is it something worse? I’ve read just about every page but no one’s given a definitive answer yet on the buttons and losing response yet? Any solid solution or answer yet?

I used a flat head screw driver to get mine off. With the screw driver facing up I put it under the catch then pulled it up in like a lever motion. Did the job easily.

I am fairly certain its the buttons and new buttons will fix it, because when I disconnect the leads and physically touch them together it works perfect. I am not sure how a button could fail since it is such a simple mechanism but none(0) of the buttons on my stick work properly. One day it’ll work, next day every 5th time I press it it fails. Every 6th ultra comes out as an ex uppercut cause one of the buttons didn’t hit. It’s making the game completely no fun to play, since I can’t even do simple low short x 3 kind of crap because the chance of the short button working three times in a row is pretty small. Also sometimes the button will fire like .5 seconds after I press it, which makes links fun. I turn on the key display in the training mode, and just hit 3P over and over, and watching the inputs that show up on the side is pure comedy.

The problem is almost certainly in the buttons themselves though, and not the PCB or wiring, which is very good news. Replacement buttons should fix it.

i mean come on, i paid $80 for a joystick and buttons start to go unresponsive with less than ten hours of playtime. i don’t mind the stock buttons on the SE making more noise, but ffs there’s no other way to fix this besides replacement or sending it back to madcatz?

I’m loving my Street Fighter 4 SE sticks SO MUCH! I mean I had this horrible grinding noise and my sticks locked up…great craftsmanship. Anyway I also had to two buttons that weren’t working at all. So i sent them to MadCatz on RMA and just got them back today and my sticks now just feel loose and don’t seem to register things as well, if at all at certain moments.

And my two buttons still don’t work…It’s so great…

Ugh…

Now, unfortunately, I am worried about putting my new Sawnwa parts in and I’m worried that if I send it back to MadCatz AGAIN it still won’t be fixed…

Anyone got anything?

I have a problem with my buttons too. They stopped working after one week. I got the buttons to work again by opening up the case and straightening out the wires, made sure everything was tightly connected. But after a few days they would stop working again. I have to keep opening up the case and jiggling the wires around to get them to work again. It is so frustrating! I think I’m just going to give up and use my Saturn pad instead. I’m very disappointed. I will never buy another Mad Catz product again.

Sorry about getting back to you late. Anyways, it took about a week and a half to two weeks, BUT I live in California so shipping is only a day or two tops each way.

Just put your Sanwa parts in there already. You’ll be 100% happier.

The SE in my Fightsticks stands for “Seimitsu Edition”.

I opened mine up last night to super glue the washer. It looks like they’ve made an attempt to seal it with a little bit of “something”. It wasn’t loose loose but did lift a bit when I moved the stick. The PCB was still in perfect condition even after 10 hours of use.

a couple of my buttons had slightly loose connections… i just used pliers to squeeze the connectors so they wouldnt move… but anyway, i did the swap to sanwa joysticks & buttons for both my fightsticks… and since the swap, they both are 100% responsive…

So if I’m planning on swapping sticks I shouldn’t worry about this right? Can I still play on the standard stick and the sanwa will work even if the standard one breaks or should I just wait for the new parts to come in? It doesn’t seem like it has any problems so far. The washer looked find when I opened it.

Take off the pcb and look to see if its being scratched  If not then just continue to play untill you get your new stick as the PCB being scratched is the cause of 90% of the problems with the stick. If it is being scratched then glue the washer down and you can still play untill you get your sanwa.

Well, I received my stick a few days ago. The day I got it, 3 of the 4 screws that held my stick down were stripped… I just started playing and all I heard was rattling from the screws falling off. Well I open it up and Fix that. I didn’t have any washer problem, but now my kick buttons are not working… so I can’t throw or do Focus. Has nothing to do with the quick disconnects. I couldn’t stop playing ranked matches and now I raped my own score ; _ ;.

Anyway, I ordered parts 2 weeks ago from LL, I just came on here to vent while I wait.

I’ve been experiencing this problem myself, except I’m able to unplug/plug it in several times and get it to work for awhile. Also my RH and adjacent button randomly stop working. Currently i’ve taken the whole wiring harness out of the casing in order to get some readings from my voltmeter when the problem happens., and insure no shorts behind the board. After malfunction, the board is still recieving voltage, and the buttons are closing correctly and sending voltage to the board.

At this point I’m thinking its either a faulty main pcb, or perhaps the quick disconnect in the usb cord getting poor connection. If it keeps happening I’m thinking about cutting out and wiring through the quick disconnect. If it STILL happens then what else could it be besides a faulty main pcb?

Ok dont know if anyone had the same problem as me or not. I have a issue
with my 360 SE stick not being able to access the guide button or the turbo
buttons. I switched it to unlocked and DP. Now i cant access friends lists or join games. The rest of the stick works fine as far as buttons and start button punch jab all works fine.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem? before i go and send it back to madcatz.

If its something simple as a loose cable or somthing plugged wrong holla.

I had to open it up and look but i cant tell whats wrong.

the stick never was able to access the guide menu when i got it.
