This whole thing reminds me of MG-Ray in metal gear solid 2 >_>
the company’s that got sticks to reviews got the “prototype” version, which was crafted to be nearly flawless, no faulty parts or anything.
couple weeks later.
Consumers get a mass-produced knockoff version of the review version. many bugs, lots of sticky-ness, some don’t even work at all.
I feel Madcatz cut corners to produce more sticks, instead of making GOOD sticks seeing as how there is a ridiculous demand for them, due in part to the fact that the reviewers got great sticks.
business is business i guess.
but yeah, my stick has been getting stuck in random positions. down, down-back, up-back, up, down-forwards…i am sad this is happening on such a wide-scale.
Are the input problems you guys are experiencing the result of the mechanical parts in the stick/buttons, or the PCB? Ignore this if the answer is unknown so far.
seeing mark’s reply pretty much made me cancel my pre-order. the fact that he said we should replace the stick itself means that the defect is known inside at madcatz and will not be fixed anytime soon. yes they will replace your stick but probably give you another one that will break also.
Well hold on now. Someone who’s gotten a defective item has every right to spew hate on the maker of the item. There will be bias against a defective item as there is bias for a working item, that’s unavoidable. If that person who spews the hate is supported by many many more people with similar problems, I think that’s a cause for concern and merits a lot of frustration and caution. Again, Markman hismelf has acknowledged this issue. If you read all the concerns, including those with Gamestop hearing about similar returns, then I think it’s fair for others to know about the issue.
Now if a person poured hate on the product, yet there are more people saying it’s a great product and there are no issues, then there’s nothing to fear.
But the point is, a person has the right to vent their frustration. Whether they get support over it is another story. Again, the amount of SE’s available before SF4 launch is a relatively small group… yet many of these cases have popped up with MM confirming the issue. Each person can make their own judgement.
I may have mistakened you for the person calling the SE a high quality product, so perhaps that praising statement was not meant for you. For that I appologize if it came off as an offending statement. Either case, I don’t care if person defended MC stcks. You have to look at it from both sides, and I agree. But at the same time some of those defending the sticks aren’t understanding why these people are engraged, yet there’s plenty of reason to be. I’m just trying to “open” up the minds of those people as well to state there is plenty of reason to be flamed up over this, and this ordeal needs to be acknowledged by MC.
Even Microsoft eventually acknowledged the RROD issue and extended the warranty. There were enough 360s suffering from that issue, that it was a valid concern for people to consider when buying one. Many still ask about the RROD when buying a 360 now… that’s how bad it was. But there were enough consoles affected to warrant such a bad hype.
I don’t agree with his methods on personally attacking someone. I’m not trying to attack anyone, but to give a valid perspective on why this issue is such a big deal. And unless you’re in some of these people’s positions (spent all their money on an SE stick only to spend more money to get it fixed, and be without a stick for SF4 launch) then you’re probably not going to be as pissed as they are.
I’m happy to know you can enjoy your stick, cuz I would like to be in your situation with a great SF4 stick. But man, I’m also furious to hear the SAME issue happening to so many people.
I believe the post on the first page by ErcsYou have stated that the issue is with the washer being loose and potentially making contact with two connectors at the same time on the PCB. Gluing the washer in place has been known make some sticks work.
So with that said, the issue does not appear to be with the PCB. At least not right now… crosses fingers
I just picked up my SE stick today, sadly it has the “stick” issue. But other then that I really have been enjoying the stick. I was planning on swapping out the parts anyways, now i just need to look up the correct stick and buttons and I should be on my way.
I’m hoping that nothing is wrong with the PCB since I do intend to mod this with Sanwa parts, which will hopefully redeem this stick, since getting a HRAP Pro EX in Canada is rather difficult
Called 12 GS in the chicago area nobody has anymore. So i said Screw it Well here is my pcb after 2 Hours of play! http://i572.photobucket.com/albums/ss161/DrJAS0N/DSCN0133.jpg My question is I dont want to glue the washer down can i just take it out for now? Going to order a sanwa tonight and pray it gets here before the weekend!
Just thought I’d put out there that I too, felt weird crunchies when moving down-left and such, but after playing on the stick more the smoother it went. Felt like there was a short ‘breaking-in’ period for sure. Could be my hands adjusting but this stick feels much better than it did a week ago. But the fact that this thread exists still worries me some but for now, I’m satisfied with the purchase. Hopefully for everyone with bunked sticks, Madcatz will do right, save face and ship out quality parts to replace. I want them to win us over.
just a matter of time till the PCB is worn down, send it in, call madcatz, or return it. Your washer is loose, and it won’t fix itself. The entire product I would wager is pretty much 100% defective on all new models. If your stick works in 2 weeks, it’s because you havent played with it in 2 weeks. As much as it sucks, your only options are spending 50 dollars to replace all buttons/stick or return it and play with a pad / hori until madcats sorts it out.
I personally would say everyone who has a SE stick has a defective stick the way things look. Take it back to gamestop/where you bought it and wait till they have actually functioning sticks or get a 50 dollar hori that actually works. I’m pretty sure mad cats is mad fucked.
just guessing since the washer or the compartment for it appears to be completely the wrong size, not like missing glue or something. Which means eventually it will probably be tweaked/stick and fuck up your pcb.
I wish madcats just released a 50 dollar version without the buttons/stick. Because honestly that is all the first batch is it seems, well maybe worse since you have to go through the hastle of removing the shit and the extra money spent on broke ass shit.
btw I found out the place I am buying it from has a really awesome return policy, which means It looks like I will just play with it till it defects, bring it back for another etc until this shit is sorted out. If you did buy it, look into the return policy for the store and make sure you understand it.
Yeah even I laugh when I watch it myself. I’m sort of over it, parts will arrive soon and it’ll all be gravy. As for more videos my friend, I make all sorts of them, check out my vimeo page.
paying 80 bux for a case with pcb is freacken good, probably been mentioned by now
you guys all knew what you were paying for, and you all know economical stuff usually operates like ass, btw when has mad catz ever made a decent product? NEVER
so ya’ll knew what to expect.
if you guys really wanted quality you would have all gotten a custom or the TE
and lol at you you idiots choosing an EX2 over the FS
are you kidding me? you guys dont know shit about fuck and need to really just keep your mouths shut.
on a side note, markman did an excellent design on these stick and mad them hella user friendly, by that i mean easy to mod. and i mean easy
its not a nightmare like the tekken 5 stick for the EX2 everyone keeps mentioning
MadCatz or not, for $80, a product should last more than a few hours. These concerns are legitimate.
Sharing your experience with how your product is functioning or not functioning is invaluable to everyone who has purchased this stick or will be purchasing it. (Those reading SRK and those who do not) MarkMan has been keeping his eyes on these threads and you can bet word is getting to MadCatz about whats going on.==
I’m kind of amazed you found an SE here at all. In the Western Suburbs within a 40 mile radius (I seriously drove 40 miles to a store that had a spare TE Thursday morning, but it took an hour and someone else snagged it!) only a few GameStops have gotten TEs and no one has gotten SEs. They all report some kind of distribution problem.
Why don’t you want to glue the washer down? Others who have, said a little super glue fixed it; if they did it before the washer totally fucked the PCB.
So let me get this straight: mad catz sucks so dont buy them, but if you want quality you have to buy the mad catz TE stick? :looney:
And if that was the intention of mad catz (concerning the SE stick), then they should sell only the case with the pcb and lower the price down a tad. I’d rather buy a case without a stick than one with a stick that kills itself + i gotta recycle that shit!
Absolutely. All of the casual/first-time players should fully expect to have to swap parts out to get a working stick. It’s perfectly reasonable to expect a fatal flaw in these sticks, I mean hell, they only cost 2-3x what a standard controller costs. Everyone knows that you have to pay at least 5x as much to get a working, reliable stick. It’s okay though, when the stick fails you’ll still have your cheesy, made-in-China white plastic case, leeching benzene into your sweaty palms, that’s worth $80 easy! You can just spend another $50 on parts to get the initially advertised functionality.
It baffles me how someone can defend the existence of these flaws due to some vague, perceived value in the parts that do work. High end PCs were $5,000-$10,000 in the early 90’s. I guess I should expect to be satisfied with a new $2,500 PC even if random parts fail, because it’s still a “good value” relative to that.
These are new products, being sold at MSRP, and the assumption that simply because they can be modded, you should expect them to be pieces of crap that fail within a week, and be happy with that, doesn’t say much about your capacity for rational thought. Maybe in the future you should just stick to playing with your girly pink buttons, and save us the stream-of-consciousness rants.
