SF4 Ryu Match-up Thread

who knows frank. im pretty fucking sick of it. specially with the noobs recently asking the same fucking question just WORDED differently each fucking time, or making useless threads dumb questions that can be asked, OR search the threads for their answers.

The people getting into this game making those threads does not bother me.

Not everyone knows how forums work and it would be very optimistic of us to think that will not happen. One person should just direct them to the correct thread and let that be the end of it.

Lately I’ve been hitting cr. mk on a dash punch Balrog and beating him cleanly all the time.

and if he tries and do EX dash punch of any sort I hit with that cr. mk and I’ve been getting used to hp shorying and handing out massive damage and it feels so good.

Well, um I would block the entire thing, if the akuma makes a mistake and jumps again to cross up a little too early or something you should just shoryu out.

If you tend to block most of the akuma player will eventually try a throw in which you should go for a tech. If you block the fireball you cant be thrown just yet inwhich you can spam the throw and try to set it to neutral and then jump tatsu out of the corner.

Say one fire ball hits and he try to throw before the second hits, I would just hold back and throw so you’ll get the tech that way.

Other than this, the only other thing Akuma will do is mix up with the overhead and his demon flip, but the only way ot beat these is too get better at reading the Akuma player, there no real sure fire way to beat mix-ups like that, just my opinion.

Thanks Kaiden! This mix-up reminds me of the Sakura mix-ups that killed Alex Valle this year, in that there isn’t a clear counter to that one either.

Mix-ups are tricky, but they have to be true mix-ups in my opinion which there are very few of them, Akuma has one of them.

The point of a 50/50 is so you can get unscaled damage by resetting combos through mix-up.

However most people would consider ken’s ex tatsu a 50/50 and in my opinion it isn’t. In order for it to be a true 50/50, the ken player would have to either throw or shoryu as a follow up, 2 choices turns into a 50/50. But this doesn’t take into consideration the option select throw (OST) which used right will tech the throw and block the shoryu making ken’s 50/50 turn into a 0/100 in the opponets favor. But this isnt how the game is played, there are also the option for block, overhead, ultra, tick throw, jump out, point being that there are so many things that can go wrong that it is very hard for me to consider it a 50/50.

This is where Akuma breaks away, after Akuma does the jump ex fireball on opponet wake-up, akuma can do whatever the hell he wants, he can jump away if he wants to because that 2nd fireball provides additional block stun that most people are not familiar with. This doesn’t work with Ken’s ex tatsu because the ex tatsu on hit gives ken a +1 frame advantage, but in my opinion you cant do anything with that extra frame that will make a difference, you’ll just meet a shoryu if you attack even with the +1; thats just my opinion though, and I dont really pay attension to a small frame rate as that in which case i think will make no difference, all I need to know is that Ken is in a mix-up, but with no real particular advantage.

I know some people will aregue against my opinion on frame rate cause that’s what happened in the ken sub forum. My point is that with this +1 I really dont think you can do anything new. Yes you with have +1 on all your normals if you execute perfectly, however you’ll just meet a shoryu most of the time which beats out fucking everything to the point its ridiculous. Then you can block, which destroys the point of having +1, you can throw but you still have to wait for the hit stun to conclude so the +1 wont come into play. Just my opinion.

Back to topic, Akuma has so much block stun advantage that the opponet is very limited in response, yes maybe they an ultra, but yo get one of those a round for the most part. In which will win you maybe one round cause the akuma will look out for it next time. Because Akuma can do whatever the hell he wants with limited recourse from the opponet, it more of a 50/50 to me.

However, learning to play against someone will totally negate everything about probabilities and what I’ve just said and move more into situations of 70/30 or more or whatever, the best thing is truly just finding out what works for yourself.

I had no idea cr.mp could stuff even EX ball that easily, this will really keep my frustration with Beast Ball spamming idiots in check.

But, I have a question about cammy. Last night I ran into this really weird situation that pretty much leaves ryu in negative frames even on hit. If Cammy does her spin move, where she spins around fireballs and basically knuckles you in the gut, while she has ultra meter she comes out of her hit animation faster than ryu can recover from his cr.hp. At this point, if she does ultra fast enough you WILL get hit by it every time. And god forbid she have a full meter. (This was offline, not online, so lag could not have been a factor.) Is this some kind of hiccup in the game, or does being in negative frames after cr.hp on hit make sense?

Edit: I know I should be following up cr.hp with hadouken for safety, but last I checked her ultra goes under projectiles from close range, so even then Ryu still loses out.

I dont really think I understand what you are saying. When are you doing this cr.hp ?

Well if you are hitting a cr.hp you should be following with a tatsu or shoryu, its free damage and the cancel isnt hard.

If somehow you are hitting with the cr.hp out of her spinning knuckle and she is resetting to neutral state, I would suggest just using a different attack such as cr.mp or st.hk.

If all else fails shoryu your way out …

You shouldnt really be using c.fp blindly, it does leave Ryu at negative framees even on hit. You need to change it for mayve c.mp. After the c.fp you should be using an FB when its blocked or a SRK or tatsu on hit. Cancelling into FB will leave you at -2, instead of c.FPs -16 (block) or -12 (hit).

No I 100% completely agree with you. If I have meter I always srk fadc after either getting hit or blocking ken’s ex tatsu. 1 frame really doesn’t mean anything. he gets nothing.

Charge characters (Guile, Balrog, Blanka, Bison, Chun Li) in that order rape me every time. Their normals are too quick for me!

playing against cammy. = Jab, or MP all of her moves all day son. if you recovered by the time before she hits you with the spin knuckle move u can DP if you want. i would suggest fierce DP.

If their normals are raping you, you aren’t spacing them correctly.

Whats the best things to do against Akuma’s? I read up on what is at the front but… it doesn’t seem to help to much. Along with that Balrog, whats the best things to do vs Any type of Balrog.
