fantastic. Why dont you try what I suggested in training and realise that it’s correct?! then you can show your friend that his dumbass set-up is risky as fuck. That will surely satisfy you.
And for future note; you should try people advice before presuming their wrong! Try it in training. i guaranttee you a lot of thetime, if you duck, youll only hit one fireball, and that the above info I gave you is 100% correct. And you wont be wasting ultra if you have the skill to judge spacing and timing. I do it all the time.
i just watched it and ultra or super or ex shoryuken will definitely help you alot especially super, the only reason daigo got hit in that is because he attacked momochi
and from what you mentioned you are on your way up to recover where akuma did an ex air fireball, ultra and super will not make you escape the air fireball but it is to make a trade since akuma will not be able to guard after that ex and not before he completely lands and you should have time to pull the trick and yes you will get hit by at least 1 of his air fireball but the damage done is way much more or you can do and ex srk which is good but you need to know the height of akuma and his distance.
and if you still not comfortable with doing that then just blocked the ex air fireball after you blocked it you can counter akuma with srk, of course this is a mind game.
regardless what you do or whom you play against there are always a mind game that you have to deal with, unless they don’t know how to play sf4.
but if you can have some of your matches recorded we might have a better and clearer idea of your situation
Dude, you just got banned. Keep it civil, as I would hate to see this thread get closed.
This isn’t some simple situation I’m asking about. I live 15 minutes away from three Socal arcades, including Arcade Infinity, so I have experience with good Akumas. Don’t think that because you lead a merry band of online players, everything you spew out is gold. If you watch the videos, you’ll notice the Ryu that’s playing didn’t respond once to the tactic I’m referring, and he’s not even in the corner. This vid was back in 2008, so I was hoping there’s been some counter developed since then that I missed. If you think you’re smarter and better than him, then by all means, continue to judge me. If this were some tactic that’s as easy as you make it sound, I wouldn’t be asking for help would I?
"Overall, the biggest problem character in Japan has to be Akuma. Anytime I play a decent Akuma here I just feel tottally helpless. I’m either caught in some 50/50 demon flip situation, some sort of 20+ hit far standing roundhouse loop combo or simply just stunned after a couple mix ups. As a friend mentioned to me recently, once the US Akumas get on Japans level, people will be begging to play against Sagats."
Apparently, you find Akumas easy to handle since you do it all the time, or maybe that’s just indicative of the competition you face.
YJDK.
Again, I do appreciate your initial responses before it got hostile.
Thanks for the tip Arnold. Appreciate it. I have neither a console, nor capturing devices, so I just play at SoCal arcades.
I get what you’re saying. I use my EX bar for safe SRK’s in this match-up though, so a super isn’t usually available. I’ve tried the EX-SRK, which is pretty hit-or-miss and obviously punishable. I figured this was one of those “safe” rushdown moves, like Combofiend talks about, moves that seem reckless but have a purpose behind them. I hate those.
Wow, you have ego. Just cause you live in SoCAl?.. ha ha… :lame:
You know what? Yesterday, when you asked that question, I double checked everything in training mode so I could answer you correctly, and then I go and type a massive answer to you to help. You wont even try the advice. Instead, you want to try to dis me. Guess what kiddo… you cant dis me, cause unlike you, I know my basic match-ups… I learnt my shit because I take people’s advice and dont just presume superiority.
I gave you every single possible answer to that situation, and to it all you go :arazz: Because you think I only play online…
Believe it or not, I dont JUST PLAY ONLINE. The fact that you would presume that to be the case proves how arrogant you are… there are arcades and offline matches outside of Socal.
But be my guest… Take no advice and never learn anything. Hell, I dont care. But if you dont want answers, in future, dont ask questions.
and btw; why the hell are you using EX bar for ‘safe SRKs’? That’s F***ing dumb.
Mario316
The EX claw thing is almost certain just because of lag, yeah. Personally, I try to counter. To do that, I buffer an SRK to the side Vega is standing prior to the cross-up claw, then just hit jab. Mostly, te SRk hits, if it doent, the jab sometimes hits, and if that doesnt hit, I usually seem to recover in time and be blocking. there is a chance of the EX hitting, but its like… 70% in my favour that way.
mmmm, i can give a little tip about the mind game, so if you don’t have super and only a few meters, what you can do is block the air fireball first and concentrate on the akuma, not the air fireball, i suggest you block down and see how akuma react
usually akuma will only do 4 things :
he sees you block down he will do an overhead using forward medium punch you can counter using a lp or reversal dp there is a slight pause before he strike
akuma will do a sweeping (cr hk) which you are safe as you are blocking it
akuma will do a forward hk where he did 2 kicks, now depending on the distance if he is slightly too far away you will only block the first kick the second one will miss (if you block down) this you can do an attack to akuma
he will attempt to throw you (normal or that air thingie), you can tech or counter, its up to you.
if you can block all this then i suggest you do a jump forward then quickly do a tatsu, if you do it right it will take you to the end of the other side, thus you are back in safety
good luck on the arcade, as you need to spend money to practice but you get to meet lots of friend
That’s awful nice of you to double-check your tactics. Still, meh. It’s not entirely true that I won’t take people’s advice, since I AM coming on the forum to ask a question. I just don’t want answers from you.
Glad to know you have your match-ups down. When another player tells you you’re not thinking correctly, that makes me pretty sure you’re not one to take advice from. If you don’t know why you would want to do a safe SRK, then I can’t help you. YJDK. Also, you ALMOST kept it civil. I appreciate that.
Thanks Arnold. You’re right that I do need to spend money, but I also don’t have to drop $300+ on a console! A dental school budget doesn’t really have “PS3” on the budget sheet. I definitely get to meet a lot of high caliber players that share tips though, so that’s really cool. Except the Akuma player. He really hates losing so there’s no way he’d tell me how to beat his gimmicks.
lol, how much is to play a game there? i never been to the arcade since there isn’t any around here, and yes depending on how often you play and how much time you wish to put in, if you don’t play much then there is no point in spending that much money but if you do play very often then best if you save the money and use it to buy a console as with one you can do more training without spending additional money plus you get to play much more players and yeah some players don’t share their tactics.
oh and if you play against other akuma players you will eventually get the idea as how akuma is being played and will make you better playing against them.
its like an rpg kinda thing, the more experience you have the better you will be, unless those who can’t play at all
It’s $.25 at all the arcades now, save for a few that no one really goes to. Not too shabby compared to $400 for PS3 + $60 for the game (might have gone down) + $70 for a decent stick. Some days I’m spending more than others obviously =D. It’s summer for me now so I have plenty of time to binge, but once dental school starts up again I’ll be lucky to have half the sessions I’ve been having. Investing in a console for one game isn’t really worth it to me, especially since online gaming seems to get a bad rep.
I understand what you mean about experience. I can deal with demon flips and the like from playing often, but I hadn’t come up with a counter to air EX-fireball okizeme, thus my questions. I’ve watched other players successfully deal with it only by blocking and working their way out of the ensuing mind-games. Thanks again for the tips!
Save up the super, man, seriously. I was watching a match on this stream and a good akuma completely stopped throwing air fireballs once the ryu he was fighting had super. He even said afterwards he quit the air fireballs because ryu had super and he’d get hit if he used any. Ed Ma was the Akuma player.
It’s a simple, anywhere on the screen punish for more than a third of akuma’s health. He won’t want to get hit with it and should give you a bit more breathing room once you have it.
I’m curious about this safe srk you mention, though.
Thanks Dannkk! Ed Ma has made me feel like a beginner a few times. Can you link me the video? I will try to counter with the super. Just so you know, it’s not this situation is where Akuma is throwing air-fireballs from full or even mid-screen, because I know how to punish those.
What I mean by safe SRK, is throwing out an SRK and then FADC backwards while being pressured by strings or into any opening where you’re sure it’ll get blocked. It’s just an old tactic to create space and relieve pressure against any aggressive opponent. My referring to it by a different name probably threw you off. It’s an old habit of my play-style, so I’ll have to focus on saving the super.
I’m having trouble with good Dictators. The scissor kick leaves them safe on block and I continue to take chip. I eventually get frustrated and do something dumb and get punished. Footsies have been difficult too with Dic’s st.HK and MK. Once I do score the knockdown, they run away with EX Headstomp or teleport. How do I chase this guy down? Do I need to wear them down until they have no meter?
