Starting to believe too that this is the case…
Isn’t the game server hosted in GFWL servers in order to prevent cheating and provide synchronization between the two players? Or is the GFWL server just used to pair the two players?
port foward?
It’s not a firewall problem either, ot I wouldn’t play fine in XBL through the same router.
Windows firewall is allowing SF4 traffic so there is no need for port forwarding.
Ever heard of issues (that would fit the topicstarters issue) concerning a service called “Wireless Zero Shutdown”?
No? So stfu.
I won’t feed you troll but people like you that mock up others who are trying to help (without being helpful yourself) obviously don’t have a spark of decency.
Must be deficient education.
I really don’t understand why people think having a laggy connection must be SF4’s fault. Now to be honest, I don’t have an xbox or ps3 to make a comparison, but for me it’s not that hard to find a stutter free game.
I think what many people don’t realize is that they for example have the Automatic Windows Updater downloading crap while they’re playing. Or a virusscanner updating its virusdefinitions, or any other program searching for updates.
To every PC player that gets ‘random’ stutters: Download a program called TCPView from Microsoft. It shows you which sockets on your PC are currently connected or listening for a connection. I guarantee you that you will find a lot more than you expected. Using that same program you can see which processes are responsible for the connections you see, and terminate them.
I really don’t understand why people who don’t know what they are saying just start posting statements like this without a problem. What makes you think I just jump to conclusions about SF4’s fault? I have tried everything, and by everything (as you can read in my previous posts - have you?) I mean the usual stuff about running other programs in background that are using CPU cycles and network bandwidth, blah blah blah. That is not the case!
Ever heard of netstat /a? Give it a try…
Mr.Miyagi, you are THE BEST!!! Wireless Zero Solution WAS THE ANSWER!!! (well, not WZS, that’s in XP, but the Vista/7 counterpart :P)
I was able to solve it with this awesome little tool (available for Vista and Windows 7): http://www.martin-majowski.de/wlanoptimizer/index.php
Finally I can play SF4 online with the same connection quality as the XBL!
THANK YOU SO MUCH, and thank you all for your helping out with your contributions!!!
EDIT: Check the first post for the whole description!
You’re welcome
Just for future references, always game on a wired connection connection. The positives to a wired connection totally outweigh the inconveniences of laying wires all over the place. Wired being so much faster and stable then a wireless connection should be reason alone to warrant having wired over wireless connections anyday of the week.
Sometimes you cannot have the luxury of having an ethernet outlet near you playing space, and that’s normally my case, but thanks for the tip;)
hi,
i have a problem since gfwl updated to 3.0. when i login the whole game and musik slows down to slowmotion. when i skip the login the game runs normal. anybody know whats wrong ?
i made a benchmark http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/3224/benchmark.jpg
above without gfwl

The latest RALink drivers should solve the issue. Go to Device Manager/Network Adapters. Double click the device and go to the “Advanced” tab. Enable Gaming/Multimedia mode.
I’m going to try this when I get home. I haven’t been wanting to play the PC version because of all the hiccups. I find it annoying that I can’t link any combos online because of hitches while I can play another other online game without problems.
Thanks for the info!
Other typical online games don’t have 1-frame links which require a button press in a specific 16 millisecond window. Comparing “other games” to SF4 is useless in that regard.
Including 1-Frame links in SF4 without at least a 2-3Frame buffer window for them was a stupid decision on capcom’s part for many reasons, one of which is online play - but that argument is for another thread.
i saw that this are wlan drivers which i dont use and my lan adapter dont have such an option
That’s understandable and really what I was trying to compare were the “hitches” that only seem to happen on the PC version of SFIV. It’s an intermittent hitch that messes with my online play and links. When I mean hitch I mean that the game seems to freeze for a fraction of a second and then go back to normal. This causes me to drop easy links that I can do with my eyes closed on the 360 version.
No other game does this and I’ve tried everything from turning off virus scanners, dmz, firewalls etc… except for the MTU change. Maybe this will cause Win7 from causing the hitch.
Have you tried the fix I posted here? That was exactly what was happening to me;)
Update: My buddy Brian just installed the PC version on his machine…its modest with a decent video card…nothing too hardcore.
It plays great. Especially if you disable the backgrounds, its pretty much flawless…EXCEPT that a few times per match it seems to drop inputs.
I had a few standing roundhouses just flat out not come out at all…he noticed the same thing…but we are thinking that is probably on the USB Host Controller side, not the game side.
I noticed this too. I’ll be holding for a focus attack, and it’ll come out without me releasing the buttons. Anyone know a fix for this? Is this just because of online play with the game dropping frames?
