SF4: Dry Already?

ya cuz street fighter 4 is for MEN! men who have SEX…with girls! girls with BOOBS…then we eat steak, drink beer and watch the game!!

HELL YEAH!!! We dont fall in love at 1st sight, we tit fuck at 1st sight!!!

Wow, when the hell did I magically appear on /v/?

I feel we haven’t touched nearly the tip of the iceberg in this game. It’s been out just about year. How can anyone (specially 09’ers) say that it’s been maxed out? If any 09er thinks it’s been topped out, has no clue how long it takes to really top out a game, like a fighting game, that’s just the way it is. You will always see something new with more and more time put into it. I also feel we have only gotten into 20% of the game’s potential. Give it 5 more years, you will see more extraordinary shit we can’t even imagine today. People (even the japanese) are still practicing matchups. You can’t say that it has been played to it’s full life span/potential. The game is still fairly new. We won’t get a real tier list for a good few years.

By then, the next several SF4’s will be out.

There won’t be another sf game for a while. Don’t plan on it.

Not necessarily planning on it, but between this: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showpost.php?p=7318042&postcount=11 and the hints of it from Capcom, it’s enough speculation for me to look forward to another coming out in a realistic time-frame.

Another SF4 game doesn’t really fall under the, “You’re stupid for thinking this will happen.” So I’m pretty alright with the assumption that another will be out soon.

It’d be more realistic to assume that in the next 5 years at least 2 more versions of SF4 will be released, given the way Capcom releases them.

I’m not sure if Capcom will release two more versions of SF4, but another version is definitely in the works to address necessary changes to characters and mechanics. Honestly, I hope they put something new in without breaking the game because while the FA system is great, the game’s rather untechnical. Reversal window, no anti-tripguard ultras, absolute block so you can mash srk’s, fucked up on block/on hit frame mechanics, etc. etc.

Low jump would be bad ass << >>. Would probably fuck the game up beyond belief tho.

Imagine gief with low jump mk/splash, honda with lj.rh, sagat with lj.mp/hk. Shit’d be dumb.

That is why I worry that Capcom might be listening to the uber scrubs who say crazy things like Sagat needs his Tiger Knee removed or Vega needs an ultra that does 40% chip damage…go read some of the messed up suggestions at Eventhubs…pretty horrible suggestions…

why is being dry a bad thing? As an EX player my favorite games have had less things found out about them in the 10 years that they’ve been out than SF4 has in 2 months of everyone playing it. It being popular and thus explored is a good thing so we can get everything out of the game.

Case in point, I came up with this SFEX3 combo a few days ago (originally thought of the set up years ago but never got around to putting it in video form), had EX3 the popular of SF4 it would have been figured out years ago, before I even thought of it.

The sooner we get past the execution/knowledge the sooner we can move onto the stragety and mindgames. and thats were the game truely becomes fun. Even if thats just walk up throw 4 times in a row because your opponent thought you weren’t going to do it again, and then again and again.

Too…much…win

*dies

TY.

lol@people saying BB is an alternative to SF4. That game is garbage.

I JUST started playing Guilty Gear and even being new to fighting games can tell GG has more depth and technicality than BB will ever dream of having.

SF4 is not dry. It is what it is. Always has been. It’s a noob-friendly game that took the world by storm. Basically I see SF4 as a gateway to the fighting game scene. Worked for me! :stuck_out_tongue:

SF4 has and will do the same thing for the fighting game genre that halo did for the FPS genre.

I don’t care what you think about halo, it put FPS tournaments on ESPN and spawned MLG.

Hopefully we will see something similar happen to fighting games/SF4. We already have major tournaments, just need more publicity. Granted, some may like having a small community, to each their own.

Are you trying to blow people’s minds or something? Shame on you.

It’s funny…people in this thread want crazy execution, years of depth, long complex combos…and, yet if you put an EX game in front of them, they’d STILL refuse to play it.

“You can’t win, you can’t break even, and you can’t get out of the game…” - the legendary Michael Jackson describing the plight of FG companies trying to please FG fans.

I agree. When I am playing offline or at a tourney, I will deal with them appropriately (I’ll just let em turtle at the other side of the screen, and hop/FA every hadoken they spam at me), but online, I am either trying to rank myself up, or just tired of facing the fourth ryu/sagat in a row that wants to jump backwards all day, throw fireballs and lp srk’s, then jump his way to the opposite corner. I don’t feel like jumping up and down for 3 rounds, game after game after game, waiting for them to actually fight. Sure, it’s the right strategy, but IT IS NOT FUN without the lure of prizes and moneys

And that’s not even bringing into account the fact that the afforementioned characters do beastly damage SHOULD they decide to actually come at you. Or that they can just spam SRK’s to get out of a combo.

FFS, I love when I come across a Rufus, or a Viper, or god forbid, Gen, Cammy, Dhalsim, or anybody else that offers a fresh change of pace. At least it’s not the same fucking thing over and over.

They should just make a separate game, and have just Ryu and Sagat in it

Refer to my previous post.

And yeah, I hear Dhalsim’s a real rushdown character .

I never said he was a rushdown character. Just a nice change of pace from people who play ryu/sagat and just hide across the screen from you all match long, and wait for only you to do stuff.

While it is true that this game is far from being dry, and that we find new combos & new tricks every so often, it feels that alot of this game has discouraged overall the search for more.

For example, most people who play SF4 are doing it online at some point. What discourages alot of players (who do not play the typical EZmode Ryu/Sagat/Akuma chars) is that after putting alot of effort into learning combos and strategies to outplay the higher tier players, they can lose still very easily to one of the dangerous easy ways that the shotos/Sagat can link their Ultras.

Not to mention, it is harder for a non-FB character to zone when their opponents 95% of the time is a FB zoning character with a seriously powerful AA.

What ends up happening is that nearly everyone who just wants to “complain and whine less, and just find ways to win” figures that to win they should pick a shoto/Sagat.

Which is what is drying up this game: even at high-level play, Sagats/Ryus have such a solid foundation that even with some errors, they can recover much more easily than their lower tier counterparts. That’s not to say that it’s impossible to beat them, it just means that the ones who play non-shotos/Sagat have to not only put in more time & effort to learn strategies/combos, but be extremely crucial not to make any mistakes because all of it would be worth squat once ultra’d for >50% by shoto/Sagat.

That’s where the discouragement comes in…I guess my only words for those who feel that way is: Don’t give up, play to have fun. Understand that making mistakes will cost you a game much more readily than if you played Ryu/Sagat, but at the same time, work on your game until you become a really high-level player who makes near to no mistakes. Learn the combos & strategies that will make u win, and just improvise, even if for just bragging rights…win or lose, you determine how much fun you want to have in this game.

Nowadays i rarely play online random matchups because all i ever face is Ryu/sagat/flowchartKens/Akumas. So now i train against friends, etc and high level players in hopes to learn something…I know i’m going to lose, but at least it helps to find ways to work around their strategies and win. Plus i get to face ppl who like me, choose other characters (Blanka, Chun Li, Rog, Gen, Gouken…)

Yet another game were “veterans” try to dictate the newbies how they should play and what characters they should select. I see a lot of Ken, Sagat and Akuma everyday, and I’m learning to counter them everyday.

If you don’t like easy characters fighting you, why you don’t select it yourself to have same advantages?

If you are so veteran they should be easy to win, the objective of the game is to win not to have variety, so popular character = you are very trained against it.

The company behind the game is responsible for balancing the characters, not the players that bought the game and have the right to play as they wish.

You know what will make SF4 even less dry? Go out buy KOF xii, stay in practice mode for about 3 hours then go online and look for a match:sad:
