SF3: Third Stike.. a shady history

^ Qft

…Awful lot of honkeys in here.

3s hate…gotta love it.

I love it. SFIII isn’t Street Fighter because it doesn’t feel like SFII? Holy shit. If SFIII felt like SFII, then they pretty much just remade SFII, then, didn’t they? It would be pointless to make anymore games in the series if they’re all supposed to be just like ST.

It’s like Mitch Hedberg says: “They say Diet Dr. Pepper tastes just like regular Dr. Pepper… well, then, they fucked up!”

That analogy is stupid. Its meant to taste exactly the same, just no sugar. So they did good unlike Coca Cola and Pepsi.

Or maybe you meant that Capcom tried to make SF3 like SF2, but fucked up!

Again… I do not understand people who hate “Game X”, because it doesn’t play anything like “Game Y”. The name of the actual game shouldn’t really factor into the equation either…

But if people are REALLY technical, then goodm0urning is right, it’s Street Fighter III series, not Street Fighter II series. Using these people’s logic, Street Fighter II series is trash because it doesn’t play exactly like Street Fighter I. Does the name “Street Fighter” really make that much of a difference? What about Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter? X-Men vs. Street Fighter? Do those games play similar to Street Fighter II series? No, you say? Then XvSF and MSHvSF are trash, because it has the words “Street Fighter” in the title.

Dumb. Seriously. People finding news ways to hate 3S everyday… because of the game title…

yea, people are just natural haters…i always thought this was clear. No point in trying to argue with someone who clearly has no interest in changing their own silly opinion.

You make it sound like pro 3s people are actively pushing the game on some people. It’s more like we just want to play our damn game, and some shithead shows up and starts whining about it, then we inform him where he may insert his problem.

I know people are not open minded and have no interest in fixing their problems. They are not helping the overall fighting game community by whining about other people or the games they play, they are doing just that, whining. I just respond to when people make garbage posts/threads attacking people/games for no apparent purpose or no intent to be constructive.

I hate marvel, that game is repulsive to me. You don’t see me going around making threads complaining about it or making bs comments to it’s fanbase. It’s called trolling, people. It’s done a different way in srk but it’s the same nastiness. I imagine if I did I would be getting negged or even banned, so whatever.

i play 3s son…its like my main game. I think you misunderstood what i wrote.

I wasn’t targeting at you. The only part in reference to you was like the first sentence.

No offense intended, sorry.

^too funny. Oh man, I wasn’t prepared for that.

No offense, but it goes both ways, 3s brands Pre-SF3 players, and vise versa, I’m sure we’ve all heard of the “You can do one move wonders in SF2 but you can’t do that in 3S because Parry makes 3S so much deeper.” Comments before.

For me, I don’t take that lightly, and all honesty, if 3S is the main, who gives a shit, imo I’d rather see MvC2 as the head game for Evolution because it gets the most hype, the greatest amount of trash talking, great MM’s, and the Best Drama, those are all win formulas, but hey, that’s just me.

My only beef with the SF2 Series to the SF3 series was that we went from a very deep game fighting game to a not so deep fighting game. That to me was my biggest beef, now I don’t mind SF3 playing differently, because if anyone remembers back in those days, the majority of the people WANTED something new from Capcom for the Street Fighter Series.

So we got SF3 (you can’t complain, Capcom made something completely New), but again, for me, to play a well polished game engine like the earlier SF2 games to one that involves more guessing like 3S, just doesn’t bold well. I felt was unfair because you lost alot of strategy from one series to the other. I’m not saying that SF3 should have played exactly like SF2, but SF3 imo should have been just as well polished if not even better then SF2 from a game engine standpoint. That to me is what dissappoints me the most, especially since Street Fighter is my most beloved series, so the whole “play something else” doesn’t work well for me as well either.

Sure, I don’t hate 3S, because I can still play the game from time to time, hell, if you want my real opinion, I’d rather play 2ndImpact over 3S anyday.

Because the game feels 50x way more fun, and imo you’ll get more out of the tier listing from 2I then you will from 3S. However, 3S is the most popular right now, okay, cool, let it run it’s course, I really don’t mind, I’ll still be sitting over here playing SF2:HF if anyone cares, since that was the #1 SF game of all time :lovin:

This is something that I don’t think a lot of people think about. In the mid-90s, Capcom was getting a lot of flak from gamers and the press. The basic gist was, “Gee, all these prequels and upgrades are nice… but are we ever going to get a Street Fighter III?” The game rags regularly published letters from people who demanded something NEW already; not just the same old characters, moves, and so forth.

1997, enter Street Fighter III. Capcom took all those words to heart and released a game in which it was no longer okay to keep using all the old strategies with the same characters as so many games before, and with by far the most cutting-edge visuals of any 2D fighter at the time. And BAM… it got overlooked. Capcom couldn’t win for losing. Seems the fanbase just didn’t know what it wanted–people wanted something all-new that, paradoxically, gave them just what they were used to.

As they tend to do, the guys at Capcom released a couple more versions of the game, refining the play mechanics and experimenting with reintroducing the very same aging characters that many fans wanted them to get rid of in the first place. Perhaps not surprisingly, the result–Third Strike–ended up being the most successful in the series.

You have to look at these events in context. Street Fighter III is the way it is because it would have been pointless otherwise. There were already several SFII games and a handful of SF Alpha games, so they really weren’t keen on revisiting that same style all over again with their brand new take on the franchise.

That is a really good point that usually goes overlooked, but the issue is larger than that. Arcades were already in decline by then, in no small part due to HF>SSF2 and ST>A1, two ‘upgrades’ that drove old guard fans away in droves and left arcade operators skeptical of new releases. Consoles finally caught up to arcades right around the same time, along with online gaming taking off.

Also, as for everyone falling back on the same old flame bait generalizations, in all camps - maybe one day you guys will learn to talk in full thoughts, but I doubt it.

biscuits taste really good when you dip them in gravy

i am still waiting for some members of the original team USA to post about how the japanese 3S scene was in 99-2000. hsien, valle, eddie lee, ricky o, watson… just a bit of your time please?

… and thanks to the coolguy who decided to neg rep me and put “fail” as a comment… i guess he was angry no child pornography was on 4chan that particular evening.

It’s not just semantics dipshit. SF3 basically robbed us of the game we loved.

My milkshake, wont you have some of it?

This argument is about as fun as hemorrhoids.

Fair enough, I’ve spat enough black bile for a while.

Yeah, SF3 is a part of the Legion Of Childhood Ruiners, along with George Lucas and Steven Spielberg.
