Also, I have to agree with Caliagent, 3S’s popularity had alot to do with the japanese players, seriously, after Evo2k4, it seemed like everyone jumped on to dick ride the japanese players.
I’m going to have to disagree with MaybeMemories, cause execution in 3S is pretty much cake, with a few notable exceptions.
I’m fairly new to 3S and competitive gaming in general, and find that 3S was the most attractive due to the familiarity of some characters and clean, crisp graphics.
Compared to learning marvel, which is just frustrating because if you dont know whats going on, all you see is your character getting some ridiculous infinite done on him while you cant do shit, 3S is the most newb (not scrub) friendly game we on SRK play.

I heard a totally different story about 3s. Back @ b5, they ran 3s and A3 iirc. However, for 2k2, they asked players for either or but not both. One of the games had to die off because there wasn’t enough time to play both. The A3 players @ the time decided to go with 3s because A3 was getting redicuosly broken. By comparison, 3s isn’t as broken as A3 so it makes for a better tourney game. Also, the beat down the US recieved from the japanese during B5 made a few more people practice the game.
Thats what I heard from back in the day like 00-02. I used to play A3 and was never good @ it. Then I heard that A3 was no longer part of the US championship and 3s took its spot and thats when I picked it up.
as for the part about people only getting into 3s because they want to be japanese is the biggest load of shit I heard anyone try to sling on the boards. Play the game beacuse you want too regardless of the reason. If you loved street fighter because it was the best game during the 90’s, chances are that you would of played anything that had the word street fighter on it.
what’s the deal here. i don’t like playing mvc2 i don’t like playing tekken but i don’t get on every board tryin to diss em. why does any1 who plays mvc2 or ST feel the need to dis 3s. don’t play the game. you don’t like the people who play 3s and consider them morons. ok i get that we don’t need to love every person on this world. but if there was no 3s then they would play mcv or smth. you want em to play it but you think they are morons? that doesn’t make sense.

There are a lot of things in here that people shouldn’t have to hear. Clowns embarrassing themselves left and right. All I know is I had a great time sitting back and laughing at how sad some people can be.
I do agree that 3S caught on because it was “scene” to start taking it seriously. I don’t mean to take anything away from what a great game it is, however. I got 3S the week it came out for Dreamcast. I was excited about it, and the only person I knew of that realized such a game- such a series even existed. Flash foward a few years, and I’m out of the fighting loop altogether. Imagine my surprise at learning that 3S had become the -it- game. Sort of mysterious, really.
The bit about CFE made me laugh, too :p.

Besides i seriously can’t believe you think DC died cause of copying games. Don’t you think that the simple fact that PS2 sold over 10 times as much as the Dreamcast did was a major factor? I mean it doesn’t matter how many games you copy, cause at the end of the day you still need a system to play them on.

I play it because I like the game system, the characters, the music and all that. If I cared about keeping up with the Japanese I’d be playing Melty Blood and Arcana Heart or some shit right now…although I do want to play those games, heh.

neither of these are exactly taxing. SF has always been 60 fps from II up, 3s isn’t the first. It may be the most advanced graphically but it certain isn’t in much else.

Honestly, I think SRK saved or resserected 3rd Strike. At the time near everyone was playing MvC2, it revived the arcade a bit, nothing else was being touched except for maybe DDR (which truely brought back life to the arcades for a while). But when the SRK community started getting “big”, so did the rest of the capcom fighters.
i don t know about california but 3s always had crowds in NY and NJ, mvc2 killed it for a bit when it came out
Dude, I think you missed the point. It’s not about the DC making money, it’s about the fact it wasn’t enough Dreamcasts sold for it to even make a difference. The console did not succeed. There were not enough Dreamcasts sold for it to make a difference.
