SF3: 3S - What capcom could've, should've, but didn't do

No one has anything to add about the speed of the game?

No, because theres no need to change it.

no …
about your changes , is estimated that 80% of it does not need to change …

all that changes will defy the old-schools and ways of SF gameplay …

Well, playing against Chun does teach you something… ^^

People who aren’t game designers shouldn’t propose changes to things they don’t understand. This includes the topic’s starter and several of its posters.

Besides, if you’re playing the game looking for things to nitpick, why even bother?

JALbert:

First of all, the SF2 characters are archetypes, not stereotypes. There is a difference.

You’re correct in that 3S is different. Hence why a lot of players say it is NOT a Street Fighter game. If it didn’t have the shotos and Chun-Li, they could have gotten away with calling it something else entirely.

And learn to read, because I clearly said, with regards to gameplay, that I would like to see them “get rid of the parries or otherwise severely alter then”. There is other stuff I would have mentioned like character tweaks (giving Ibuki her Hashin Sho back, just turn 3S Sean back into 2I Sean, etc.), but I didn’t feel like typing all that up for this pointless topic. Besides, as I noted, toning down the top tier (like making Chun’s SA2 only one bar) would only make people stop using them and make people start playing the new top tier, whoever that would be.

Also, to underscore what Iceman said: SF3 lacks most of the character types that the other Capcom/Street Fighter games have. Aside from maybe Twelve (who can only run), and perhaps Urien with Aegis, every character plays very much the same, (get close, use safe pokes, mix stuff up, and throw a lot) even if they go about doing the same things in a slighty different fashion and they do it with different results (hence why tiers still exist, even if the characters are closer together than in, say, MvC2). There’s no true shoto, no equivalent to a Vega, or Rolento, or Bison, no true grappler (cause everybody is at least a semi-grappler, so it kinda loses focus), Chun-Li doesn’t play like Chun-Li, and the Guile wannabe sucks if you actually try to use him like Guile. What is left is a pretty-looking homogenous blah-fest.

This isn’t to say that 3S is terrible or anything. If you take it as its own entity (i.e. NOT a Street Fighter game), it’s not that bad, though I’m not especially fond of it (and yet, I can’t wait to get my hands on SFAE so I can play 3S at home ;)). It’s just that I think the game could have been a lot better (though of course it wuld be different) and, furthermore, the game could have been made in such a way as to not alienate the SF2 base (note that I never said they need to use ALL the Sf2 cast; just more than what they did use; after all, out of the 4 characters from SF2 used, 3 are shotos, and one of them got totally revamped). There’s no reason why SF3-style characters and SF2 characters can’t coexist in the same game.

Oh yeah, someone mentioned speed. I forgot about that: 3S should be faster. 2I speed at the very least.

sagat wouldnt be top tier, he would probably take even more work to win with seeing as the further versions of him nerfed his tiger shots, making him just a big burly character with a good crouching fierce and a uppercut… WOW THIS CHARACTER REALLY IMPROVES THE CAST.

u want a projectile abuser use remy he’s what sagat would become if he stayed in. low stamina and stun bar and all. remy is probably the most genius character in that game because he purely meshes guile’s play style AND sagat’s effectively and one could be decent enough with any of the former characters (guile, sagat) to use him. u just cant get hit or u die.

perhaps you are out of touch ultima? Or maybe I am. regardless; i disaree with almost everything you said

i second that

if they threw in more SF2 characters, then u could calll it Super Duper SF2 Hyper Special CE Turbo Edition X. When NG was in the arcades, I read all magazines on it & I grew very in love & intersted from the start. No more shotokan based b/s, Alex was a great main character. I liked the stages, the shotokan’s new sprites, parryin was new & hard to accpet & get used to. However, I love super canels, I wish they woulda kept the wird screen from NG for 3S. The boss was kinda iffy, but he wasnt your basic “I want to take over the world” villian. Chun-Li & Akuma was a great addition from SF2. No one else was really needed. And i love Andore or should I say Hugo was put in, with his beeyatch Poison, cause I love Final Fight, plus I favor Hugo over Zangief. The thong thing was wrong, until I saw how good Urien was, I looked past that. CAPCOM made quite a few sacrifices for SF3, not like all SF1 characters were in SF2.

… Two!

(PWNED!)

I’m pretty damn sure that Yun is in SFA3. He’s in the A3 GBA game, but that might be Upper for the consoles. Also, his SFA3 version plays and looks pretty much like his CvS2 version; which plays like shit.

Uh, I’m pretty sure my copy of SFA3 didn’t have Yun. Eagle and Yun were put into the GBA version only. (And who seriously plays fighters on the GBA, anyways?)

Console SFA3 added the rest of the New Challengers (Hawk, Deejay, Fei Long), Guile, and made the hiddens playable (Rog, Juni, Juli).

No, most of them are stereotypes. The designs are oversimplified, most do not embody the reality of what they represent and, best of all, some are just plain offensive.

Big, dumb, bearded russian that dances with Gorbachev. Oh no, not a stereotype at all…

No Guile =/= StreetFighter for me atleast.

But that’s what Street Fighter is all about, ethnocentric racism and fisticuffs.

now they moved on to feminine and masculine interpretation through character design, welcome to the 21st century.

What Capcom should of done is pat themselves on the back for making a great game.

Quit riding their nuts and admit that watching 3s videos are more interesting than a CvS2 turtlefest.

-But that’s what Street Fighter is all about, ethnocentric racism and fisticuffs.-

I so want to sig that, but this sig limit BS gets on my nerves, so I’ll stick with my grandfathered sig. =/
