I lol’d so hard…you say something about my video and then post this? yes you did more interesting stuff, i’ll give you that…i’d do interesting stuff against Sagat players who just made it to G2 as well…love to see you trying half that many jumps ins against a G1 Sagat player. Oh and by the way, in my video there’s a background and player models aren’t set to lowest quality.
I’m not saying i’m better than you, just that this video makes your comment about mine utter nonsense…
Mike you’re one of the people that’s going to have an extremely hard time ever leaving your level of play. There were tons of ways that the Sagat could have punished you for MASSIVE damage. Even though it seems like what you’re doing is safe, it isn’t in the least bit.
My advice to all players is to constantly question everything you do. If something is working every time, try your hardest to figure out how someone could stop it. And if it IS punishable, don’t do it, even if your opponent isn’t actually punishing you.
this is debatable. sure you shouldnt use it alot but you shouldnt completely remove risky tactics from your play style. just make sure your good at reading what your opponent plays like and dont abuse or you will eventually get punished
Never EVER try to play against a lower level player like they are a top player just because a top level player would punish. If you see them falling for stupid shit/same thing over and over again take advantage of it and move on. If you cant change or adapt to a better player when you play one…well, you suck.
Well not entirely true, i can adapt to a better player up to a certain point (i admit my mind games suck and so does my adaptation) but after a day of meeting only 500-1000bp players when i finally meet a good one with around my level of BP (3700) i tend to get beaten pretty bad cuz i’m not adapting fast enough.
I really wish there were more people in G1, or a way to see a persons BP beforehand. It’s not like i go looking for these 500bp players =(
The problem with this statment is you are playing online which means you need to factor in skilled players vs grinding players as well as lag.
All I am saying is if you can sweep some random scrub every time he gets up, keep doing it. Do not stop because “someone better would not fall for this”
I disagree. If you get in the habit of sweeping scrubs every time they get up, it will become a habit. Once you start playing against better players, habits like that are hard to break, if you’ve been doing them for a long time.
No, they aren’t. If you aren’t taking advantages of your opponent’s weaknesses, you’re giving up free wins. As long as you’re aware that what your doing only works because they aren’t prepared for it, you’re fine.
Why would it be hard to break? When you know you are playing a better opponent don’t try the same thing you just did on a flowchart ken. If you let playing lesser people ruin your play against higher level peeps. Then you just plain suck, or in your words, “will struggle to leave your level of play”
Well i went to a tournament again yesterday, barely made it trough the poules this time. Made some vid’s myself but still have to upload em. Two vids by someone else online though, me winning against a bison. later i got sent to the losers bracket and met the same bison player again, but this time i lost. It’s the usual boring jump HP from me, but i’ve noticed runaway Seth is just my style and if i try to change it i end up KO…
my shit was ten time better than yours. You hit heavy fly kick, then you jump away, why da fuck dont you turn it into a combo(heavy fly kick–>c. medium kick–>lightning kick)
you only do 1 thing and that is long arms, you should be banned from touruments
Level up your game, level up your IQ, then come back here and post again.
Nova, you gotta work on capitalizing when you land stuff, like EX Tanden after an EX srk, c.mk xx legs after a j.hk… that kind of thing. Just hit that training mode.
You do have some important things down though, like ultra/super traps.
As always, be careful with your j.HP, bison can literally throw st.RH out for free damage, and that shit adds up quick.
That second match explains exactly why jump back fierce isn’t safe as Seth. By just the second time he played you, he learned how to beat your jumping fierce in the air with j.mk and j.hp, and he figured out how to keep you in the corner with neutral jump/backwards jump normals. Once he got you in the corner, you were basically dead because you kept trying to walljump out. Your strategy only works on people that don’t know the Seth matchup. Once they learn how to beat your abuse of j.hp and and to block high at mid-range, you no longer get all that free damage. In fact, throwing out jumping fierce has a moderate amount of risk, and is very risky if it whiffs. If he had gotten a j.mp -> ultra on you, that would have been an entire round basically.
I’m not saying you shouldn’t run away, but you shouldn’t be so goddamn predictable. Try to stay out of the corner, don’t freak out when you do get in the corner, mix up up your jumping fierce with neutral j.mp or j.hk to beat them air to air, and jump a lot less so you don’t give up ground. Do more lp shoryu -> stomps instead of just plain EX shoryu. Learn more of Seth’s ground game and other pokes, like far s.hk, far s.mk, far s.mp, cr.mk, and cr.mp. Baiting the opponent into jumping into your shoryu is a large part of Seth’s game. You don’t have to pretend that the floor is lava to play Seth.
Jumping out of the corner with headstomp is not free.
That’s about the best tip yet, cuz i too know that i have to work on his groundgame. Any tips on how to practice that? I was thinking of going into ranked (yes i know online suck but i have no one local to play offline against) and setting rules for myself like “no jumping” or “only allowed to hit my opponent with lp shoryu into stomps when they jump” because i’ve looked at the video a few times myself and i did notice i get completely overwhelmed by jumpins…which should be free shoryu country.
Also i know my predictability is my major weakness.
And SaikyoBeast, thanks for the tips, but the cruel fact of tournament pressure is the reason for most of the mess ups, since i can get EX engine after 6/7 hit EX srk 9 times out of ten in training. At this (and previous) tourney i do the opposite and fuck up 9 times out of 10. Even when i get legs near the corner i tend to miss headstomps at tourneys…just tends to happen to me with people watching and knowing you’re being recorded…
I’m still happy with the results though because everyone was saying i would get my ass handed to me by my opponent, and i managed to beat him once and didn’t feel i was doing too bad 2nd time around, i think in the end my position was 18th or something.
There’s merits and negatives to both. Like I said before, if they time their jump-in correctly with a lot of characters, lp shoryu will trade in their favor, and you won’t be able to combo into headstomps because it will be a trade in the air and not on the ground. I’m pretty sure I’ve had my lp shoryu stuffed, too. If you have enough time to throw out the lp shoryu early, it’s pretty good. If someone just jumped over a Sonic Boom and you barely have enough time to shoryu, you should do hp to avoid the trade. It also depends on the angle of the jump-in. I was moreso suggesting that he not waste EX meter to anti-air someone for a tiny bit more damage. Really, it’s something you gotta have experience with to decide which shoryu to anti-air with. However, lp shoryu -> stomps obviously does more damage and gives you the reset, so I’m telling him to rely on lp shoryu -> stomps because if I suggest the hp shoryu, he won’t learn when it would be better to do the lp shoryu.
I wasn’t saying that you shouldn’t do lp shoryu -> stomps, I was saying that Sabin doing the hp shoryu to avoid trading is a legitimate strategic choice.
Also, I’ve had limited success with anti-air mp shoryu x2 -> stomps. It has the invincibility of the hp shoryu but lets you get some extra damage and a reset. I’m not sure if you can cross up underneath them after it, though, because I know that the cr.hp xx mp shoryu x2 -> stomps has problems with being able to cross up.
