Seth Video Thread

please dont upload. u suck, you only use long arms, no combos or anything

Was that really necessary? Anyways, great vid Novastorm keep them coming!

Some tips
[]You did a good job zoning with Sonic Boom. Make sure to use hp Sonic Booms at long range when you can. They apply much more pressure than lp ones. I only use lp Booms at long range when I’m baiting the jump into ultra/j.hp.
[
]Don’t jump backwards so much. Getting out of the corner is pretty easy as Seth, but it’s not free. Walking, standing, and backdashing are also important options. Seth’s backdash is really good. When you jumped in this matchup, for example, you lost the ability to punish Balrogs headbutts through your booms with s.hp.
[]Neutral j.hp is way better and sets up shenanigans. After you throw a boom, don’t just jump backwards. Wait to see what they do. If they are focusing or blocking your Sonic Booms, you can try to teleport in to surprise them (the timing on this is hard). If they jump over the boom, neutral j.hp beats it cold usually. If your timing is off or they predict this, you might trade or lose air to air (bad). To prevent this, mix it up with delayed j.hp (so they whiff and then get hit) and j.hk. Neutral j.hk has sick priority.
[
]You were very patient in this match. That’s a good thing.
[]When you walljump out of the corner, don’t always headstomp. You can make a lot of things whiff by empty jumping that would have tagged you if you had headstomped, such as uppercuts and jumping normals. Also, you can get a lot of ambiguous crossups with j.hk.
[
]You need to work on your combos. Specifically, cr.hp xx lp shoryu -> stomps, j.hp -> cr.mk xx mk Hyakuretsu, and some type of hit-confirm combo, which I suggest cr.lk xx cr.lp -> cr.mp xx mk hyakuretsu.

Jon Choi doesn’t combo much, he just Hadoukens, but he does well. Haha.

Zoning bitch! Ya heard!?

yo, QFT.if only godlike pro players uploaded vids, wed only have like…4 vids.
its dickheads like you that discourage upcoming players from steping out into the cummunity to get advice and pointers from more experienced players.i dont see YOU posting any vids of YOUR seth,so until that happens, and you prove your worth by doing so,i suggest you eat a dick.:wonder:

NOVASTORM.really good patience and zoning. i see you scored a couple jumpin hk but then just jumped back again with fp.my suggestion would be something easy for stun damage, like jumpin hk>mp xx hyakuretsu, thats what i did during the time i couldnt link jabs to mediums.

Thanks for the support, i don’t mind people saying “boring you only use arms no combo” i find tigershot spamming sagats boring too, but if it works for them in a tournament i won’t hold it against em.

Thanks also for the tips, i do use neutral jump HP, c.mk, legs a lot normally, but i missed that so often in the casuals/warmup rounds (probably cuz i had been playing SF4 on PC all month and that was the 1st day i played on PS3 again) i just decided not to try too many combo’s and just stick with the boring stuff.

And spaceman spiff, i really excell at lp,lp,mp,legs in training but i can’t seem to get them into my game reliably (yet)…probably cuz i have noone to train with offline. What i do suck at is hitconfirming so jumpin HK, c. mk, legs is a bad option for me since if it’s blocked i never seem to notice untill it’s too late =)

Will up some more from that poule soon, but i’m kinda busy working on my car atm =)

I have the same problem. I can pull off close HK > mp more than half the time in training, but I can’t seem to use it in real play. Although a large part of the time I’ve been trying to use it online -.-

Yeah there’s your problem right there…sometimes you should be glad j.HP, c.mk, legs even comes out good online, but alas, no arcades here, and no competition (i even bought the game for a friend of mine on steam, in the hopes he’d practice and then be able to put up some competition offline when he’s here or i’m there…but he never starts up sf4 unless we happen to be online at the same time and that doesn’t happen too often.

I’ll stick with the long arms and simple bnb’s online…i’ll try the c.lk,c.lp,c.mp,legs next offline tournament in the casuals, see if i can use em when there’s no lag.

i take it no one has seen mine yet?

i see,i get that sometimes too.hmm,as only a moderately experienced tourney seth,my only advice would be MAYBE if you see the jumpin HK blocked, and youre already throwing out mk,then just xx into teleport to avoid being punished?not sure if thats viable though, its just what id do.

Gameneo, you have a really solid seth IMHO,despite the slipups.the annotations were pretty cool, because alot of the mishaps you made are the same mistakes i make when i play.your mixups are pretty good too,im not THAT confident in my on the fly rushdown like that yet,but the vid gives me alot of reference to study and keep in mind.good shit.

I’m gonna have to play like nova; nice and safe. I tend to get impatient and then panic when I get hit. Taking damage is no fun

Judging by the super at the end of Nova’s match, I would assume Tandem Engine sucks Balrog out of his dashing attacks. Does it do the same for his ultra or is this completely wrong ?

I Finally made G2… woooooo! -.-

Why are you jumping at Blanka so much? EX Up Ball owns jump ins for free. Also, why are you using s.lp to reset? The great thing about Seth is that his resets are ‘free’ IE you don’t give up any damage to get the crossup reset situation. Just do cr.hp -> hk Hyakuretsu -> headstomps -> divekick.

Why are you using EX legs in a combo? First of all, cr.hp xx lp shoryu -> stomps does more damage and stun mid-screen as well as giving you a reset situation. Second, EX legs does the same damage as lk, mk, and hk legs. As far as I know, EX legs is exactly the same as hk legs except for the invincibility,

I mean, you did a good job zoning and punishing, and your execution was good, but no BnB punishers makes me a sad Seth.

I don’t know about his ultra, easiest way to try for yourself is just go into training mode, record boxer doing his ultra and see what gives.

I read somewhere that you can use tandem engine to suck blanka out of his ultra, but i simply couldn’t do it…tried every punch, ex engine, different positions…nada

I have found out that Seths super beats out allmost everyone’s ultra at point blank range but noone seems to care, whereas i’m having lotsa fun trying to bait wakeup ultra’s and supering my opponent out of it =)

Anywayz, if you’re on PS3 send me a friend req, we’ll spar some (although i really hate mirror matches, i’ll live with it =D )

You could tell me which in the In-depth Matchup Thread if you would like.

1: i knew my opponent pretty well so i knew i could jump alot without being punished.

2: the s.lp was a differant kind of reset as it happened very very fast and it completely caught my opponent off guard.

3: Im not sure why i use ex legs, i guess i thought the damage was increased as ex but i guess it was not.

4: im not the best seth on earth but i can give 85% of people i fight a run for their money with my seth.

also i do a lot of strange things with seth to keep my opponent off guard.

I thought EX legs did 140 and lk/mk/hk did 120

also neo that was a good vid but that Blanka sucked. I think your game was pretty damn solid though

You’re out of line.

Ok I made a video, this guy was lagging so my combos faild:

Am I the only one that gets combo’d into ultra when I jump in at Sagat? I mean, you can get away with some dive kicks because they’re faster, but walljumping on Sagat is hella risky.

I’m suspicious of blaming lag for missing Hyakuretsu -> headstomps. It’s not a 1-frame link or anything. If you can’t get it 95% in training, you’re gonna miss it in a match.

That guy was just too bad to evaluate that match. He ate your jump-ins for free and the only tiger uppercut he did whiffed. You did a few nice things, but besides that the video is pretty worthless. Especially because SF4 on PC is ugly as hell.

It really depends on how much lag there is. Like 90% of the time it still isn’t too hard, but there are some games where it’s damn tough. Online can be a bitch some times.
