Seth Killian on Gen

I guess…most of what i see from these players are gimmicks. Players like them spend too much time in crane when it’s honestly a terrible stance outside of it’s jump normals and the occasional crane ultra. The normals are generally terrible because they don’t really link to anything worthwhile. Whenever i see a gen player sit down in crane stance i know he’s either going to jump or oga. Both of which are easily punished.

Problem with your j.lk topic is it really doesn’t do any damage and gen obviously has better crossups. Nobody really cares. Don’t post just anything you find. Post something GOOD.

that was a example of topic that isn’t discussed - afair every (even like you say “good” topic) doesnt get attention.
and j.lk not as crossup - as a2a. I’d say it’s one of the best to use.

which player you mean?

oh what did i return too, guys just calm down. while i do agree their needs to be more info in the gen matchup thread. if you see that a character has no info just ask for tips. hell me asking about sakura gave the matchup thread a lot of info to help gen against her.

plus im the same as HAMMER FRENZY, i dont like posting out info since im still learning a lot with gen and fighting games in general. lucky i have a buddy who a tourney player who lives in Chicago. who i play with a lot.

This is definately true. Me and messiah spend alot of time on the match up thread adding pretty much 90% of all the info that is there at the moment, but it doesn’t seem worthwhile since it hardly gets looked at or commented at. I disagree with the notion that one should only post good things though, even if it’s little you can still post it. We should encourage new findings, not go elitist and say ‘lol this is useless, stop posting’ Especially not considering the graveyard this section already is.

This won’t be the right place to say this but… Ima say it anyway.I play mostly online with people who know the matchup and unless they are a really good sagat or ryu or zangief I completely annihialte them. Zangief’s usually pull some miraculous ultra out of their arse and take 75% of my life for the win. & Ryu’s can apparently online dragon punch me mid combo. M. bison’s give me trouble as well. and Really good E. honda’s take 90 seconds 2 beat (slow matches) aside from those characters and a runa away dhalsim. I have NO problems beating any other character.
Gen is solid has low priorty specials good priority normals. It is possible to win tourney’s with him and even though last night I got tiger uppercutted 10 x in arow to death before winning a 8 game series I’m still not complaining and realizing that the game is a thinking mas game ESPECIALLY with Gen. You want to be the old kungfu assassin you have to think and move like an old kungfu assassin end rant.

If mentally you aren’t outsmarting your opponent with Gen you WILL NOT WIN. You have to completely outplay your opponent with Gen. Simple zoning shouldn’t stop you turtling either. You should in my opinion Get the damage lead have immaculate defense and counter any opening’s your opponent give’s you… Then when they least expect it hit them with a 25 hit combo of death for a high climax mind fukkk. That is Gen in my mind. He is a circular character not linear like shoto’s. High execution mastery incredible defense, and the ability to counter character’s moves flawlessly is ingraved in Gen’s D.N.A. if you disagree feel free 2 say so.

P.s. He probably needs 1 move with invincibility (ex wall dive). and more priority on u2 crane and the same grab priority in crane u1 that crane super has. Aside from that Gen is straight not for scrubs.

PLease do man help us level up!!! Please.

You absolutely right I got bodied by a Zangief player yeserday 10 times before annihilating him Im going to the matchup section and posting what I learned.

You lost all credibility right there.

About this forum being underdeveloped, well… Good Gen players, realistic Gen players, have lost their hope and enthusiasm. Some switch characters, some stop playing all together. It’s hard to be enthused about this forum even, since good players are too bitter to post, and every thread is filled with spreading bad information. And if anyone with knowledge butts in to correct, he’s apparently accused of being a whiner and a quiter. This forum needs better attitude from every player.

iLLusoyn: if you’ve got good enough yomi, the matchups doesn’t really matter, but if you’re saying that Gen’s weakness-to-strength-ratio is just, or that he measures up to the upper part of the tierlists, you’re just not realistic.

Basically, there are two sides here:

  • one side thinks this forum is just underdeveloped and that Gen does have potential if actually played more/better.
  • one side is of the opinion that Gen just fails competitively/serious play due to a lack of multiple things etc.

Every thread created since may 2010 has resulted in a clash between these two sides. However, I’d also like to clarify my position on this whole ordeal. I never ‘quit’ Gen, I just stopped using him offline in ranbats/tournaments/gatherings. I still play him for fun though, mainly because I like the character and general playstyle. What I’ve done is switched mains (been playing C.viper/Seth since may 2010).
Therefore I do find it quite annoying that someone would call me out as a quitter simply because my interests in characters have shifted for competive play. I’ve been maining Gen for a long, long time, since Alpha 3 all the way to vanilla and the first month of Super.

Anyway, I think a good solution to tighten the Gen community here is to organize a group (endless mode) session to just play and have a laugh. This way people get to ‘know’ eachother. I don’t think the two sides that have been taken will come to agreement, but I don’t see why they need to. As long as people don’t to whiny (I’ll admit, I have been in the past) in serious theory fighter topics it should not be a concern.

gen has a 100% combo in training mode with just super and ultraI+his regular moves, without even doing shenanigans. does anyone else know what i’m talking about? i know in a regular match you don’t start with full super and full ultra, but if you ever acquire those two things throughout the course of a match, gen has a combo that can take all health if your opponent fails to block one or two things.

^plain naive expection

i was watching some rokotsu gen vids and there is something that stands out to me in a sense of Gen changes.

One obvious thing is meter building and damage, im sure every is on the same page. The other thing i was thinking is to make shakudan have better juggling properties rather than just for KKK ultra 1 setup.

-Maybe gen could do mantis ultra 1 instead?
-Gekiro? (say lk only connects or something)
-Reset? (like Gouken or Ryu jp.mp)…?

i think that would help gen allot, because just like ryu has the lp dp into ultra (with out meter)… gen would have something similar… kina giving him the same scare factor as ryu.

There are character’s that are stronger then gen yes. BUT I still think a masterful Gen player is one of the most talented players in this game. No matter what the tier’s are. Just my opinion.

I’m down for this. Name a date.

Yeah i’m down for an endless lobby. Can’t guarantee i’ll play gen a bunch. But i’m always down to play. Anybody can add me.

oh god…

that still isnt better than Gen’s infinite crane cr.lks in the corner. He hits one and it’s game oevr!!!1!11!!!

I Like this Idea and I’m down? Why dont you start the thread.

Everyone can just post their tag and system and put times and dates that would work for the, and we can orchistrate it that way.

Do it soon! Good idea. I respect a positive attitude!

Im down for this too, We should definatly get a poll or something going at very least a thread.

agree it sounds like a good idea except i work most night so i can only do saturday, sunday and monday night. even thing sometimes im at the ranbats every two weeks.

i cant even seem to catch anyone in oklahoma because they are never on when i am haha.

I wonder when the final arcade build will be announce or mention by capcom…I like to think Seth’s words are meaningful but too many times he disappointments me
