yet every time there is a game that looks like it draws heavy inspiration from Japanese animation, more often than not the characters look like little girls, or stereotypical sluts.
Congratulations on avoiding the point all together keep at it
nah, according to pete, you’re still full of shit.
Yeah, like Guilty Gear, with its cast consisting entirely of little girls or stereotypical sluts.
In fact, really, the only games I’d say that fit your definitions there would be Arcana Heart, Skullgirls, and Mortal Kombat (its girls are all hella slutty, don’t even try that) and two of those aren’t even Japanese.
And Eternal Fighter Zero of course. Still, it is funny/weird that the best example in years isn’t even Japanese ><
Just about every game that’s usually considered an anime game has at least one loli type though (yes, even GG). On the flipside I can’t think of a single fighting game that doesn’t have a hobag, so you’re right on that one.
Hah I thought about bridget, but like you said cheating… I was thinking May.
Some further notes, since I"m thinking about it now.
Some of the SFs have underage girls, but they all tend to be… well, pretty well endowed, for lack of a better term (neither Sakura nor Ibuki fit the look)
Primal Rage has neither Sluts nor lolis, but that’s totally goddamn cheating.
The only chick in TimeKillers dresses kind of like Vasquez in Aliens, so I guess that’s neither, unless you’re really into tanktops.
Oh and only the men were sexy in the first 4 Samurai Shodowns. The women were all overdressed if anything. (Still Nak is probably the original FG loli)
If you can’t tell, I like rambling on about old FG’s
Edit: Oh and the first World Heroes had only Janne (sp), who was basically Charlotte, so I guess that had neither. Also AoF1 I think only had King… so that’s another.
Completely durped on May, I even went and opened mine up to look through the character select screen and still forgot her.
Also, the well endowed point brings up something that you could argue via AUSTRALIAN LAWS if you wanted to, whereby a man with enough porn of legal age flat-chested women can be done for pedophilia. I don’t think anyone would use this, but you could if you really wanted. It’d certainly up the number of lolis in Blazblue.
Despite being an anime game, the cast of Melty Blood is all reasonably covered up relative to most other anime games, heck most fighting games in general actually.
I mean, there’s obviously games that feed directly off of the crowd that finds the sexualization appealing (Arcana Heart), but most fighters now include one or two characters based on sex appeal anyways. It just feels kind of awkward when the entire game is more or less centered around one aspect, which no doubt polarizes the potential crowd that would actually play the game regardless of how good or bad it is. And sometimes, the stigma of just seeing something like Mu-12’s character select portrait is enough to drive someone away from a game.
In regards to Seth leaving, I hope this means he can pursue other community related projects without having to make sure everything is ok’d by a company PR manager before he says anything about what he feels about a game. It will be disappointing not having someone who can give the more technical information about a game though.
we’re basicly keeping the thread going with filler unitl other news appears.
Interesting filler ><
And there have been a TON of hints that he’s gonna be hitting somewhere either related to the scene or in a way that he can take part, so it’ll be somethin’
This caught my eye, because at what point does something that looks Japanese deviate from the norms of the term anime?
A relevant observation from another thread,
It seems to me, that the more effort there is in making different faces and other such characteristics, and less on clothing and hair, the less likely it will be defined as, “anime.”
Look at Skullgirls, it’s totally inspired by the anime aesthetic, but take away the characters clothes and hair and you would still recognize who they are just by their face or posture.
Yet skullgirls draws heavy inspiration from Japanese Anime. You have missed the point again entirely.
The key word here is balance. Or do you want me to spell it out for you?
The problem isn’t that the inspiration comes from anime, there has been plenty of games which look anime (Last Blade, etc) and they where great, the problem is the extreme to which this is usually taken to. MK is guilty of this to, except they are on the opposite side of the spectrum.
read my post, the issue isn’t that it looks anime, the issue is the extreme to which its taken to.
If the common perception of anime is that it looks like Vash the Stampede or something equally lame, then yeah, lame character designs are going to be compared to animes. It doesn’t mean there aren’t positive aspects from anime or that all anime looks retarded, but a few bad examples make it an easy style to dismiss.
On the other hand, don’t ever tell me that animufags aren’t completely unfair when it comes to dissing American animation or comic books. They generally make the most retarded claims about classic animation and act like somehow they can’t talk up their own hobby (nothing wrong with that) without first shitting all over another. Not every American cartoon from the Disney era was a simple fable for children, and not every comic book has typical musclebound spandex from cover to cover.
Anime is easy to hate because of how its fans act, half the time.
Okay, I’ve managed to work out from your posts that in your perfect world, I would hate fighting games because they’d be boring middle of the line characters, and you’d hate them in my world because I want them bouncing off the wall insane. Not much I can really say to argue with you.
Its a good thing this was all contained in your initial post of ‘why can’t I hate games that look anime’, otherwise we would’ve wasted a lot of time arguing over nothing.
EDIT: Okay, as someone who’s neutral ground to both comics and anime (I love both, I wouldn’t put myself through the torture that is X-factor in MvC3 if I didn’t love my marvel, for sure), I have to say both sides have a lot of fans that are automatically disagreeable with the other. Really, though, the majority of any fanbase is going to be filled with dickheads that’ll make you hate it if you stay there long enough.
Ignoring the automatic hate on the other side, I’d still agree that the anime majority is the worse fan, purely because comic fans don’t go around wearing Batman masks, but every time I go into the city here I see at least one dickhead with a Naruto headband.
DOUBLE EDIT:
A.B.A’s age hasn’t been released, but since she’s a homunculus, so I can’t imagine she’s that old.
