Seth Killian Leaving Capcom

You already know that I can’t play modern FPS games, because they make me sick (because you asked) :stuck_out_tongue:

Normal rebuttal skills up to par I see :stuck_out_tongue: At some point people are gonna realize that you acting dismissive while saying nothing of substance isn’t really a response.

But seriously, I don’t think you understand how complex even the simplest of fighting games is, or now many decisions you have to make in any single moment.

On the second part, every single player in the world, even the very best, still has a lot of room to improve. Sure, there’s a pretty big difficulty curve on skill improvement past a certain point, but that’s how things work. Do you honestly think anyone has actually ‘maxed out’ the potential skill at any game?

Edit:

Just because dismissing people as dumb is easier than looking at opinions you don’t like. That’s the whole name of the game, “This person disagrees with me so I’ll call him an idiot or alternatively, a troll!”

you’re either being intentionally obtuse or you actually think that if you believe hard enough then you can become a real life super saiyan, either way i don’t think you have enough perspective with regard to the design of games that are played at a “high-level” given you didn’t mention that you have any experience in competitive deathmatch FPS or competitive RTS or a handful of other things that are up there along with those in terms of potential mechanical ability and depth

i know you’re smarter than “there’s no such thing as a skill cap unless the top player can attain 100% win rate and solve the game”

like i know that seems like i’m trying to insult you but you more or less said that you’re into “fighting games and exploration games and 4x games” which is fine but exploration games and 4x games, from a design standpoint have much less in common with fighting games than a variety of other games and genres out there that measure player ability not only through mechanical skill but decision making

It is hilarious to read the first couple of posts on thread like this then immediately go to the last page and then wonder how some conversations evolved into how they did lol.

The irony of thier stupidity, I hope they see it.

mod edit: Interestingly, you’re the only one who seems to care. The other person doesn’t seem to alienate people like you do. If I got a PM or Report, I’d look at it. I certainly don’t know. I’m not obsessed with him(s): I’ve got better things to do than stalk people’s posting styles. You need to report that to a supermod who can check. I cannot.

Sorry: that’s the fair truth. I realize you have a stick up your ass about this, but – sorry, I really have no opinion on the subject and he’s not actively being a dick to others on SRK so it’s not like I’m going to start caring given that I cannot tell. Work with a supermod if you care. No mod can help you with this: we do not have that power.

If you want to press this issue with me further, you’re an idiot. The only one who can help you with your concern is a supermod who has access to tools that regular mods do not have.

If anyone feels I am abusing my power or have let it go to my head, report it to a supermod. That’s what they’re here for. My only purpose is to help build the community. As always.

Peace.

Close this thread already its getting unbearable…smh

Oh yeah that’s not what I mean, but how much you wanna bet that all of those guys know of matchups they’re not as strong on as they’d like, or have characters they wish they knew better or whatever?

Like I said, fighting games are INTENSELY complex. There’s so much going on in even the simplest of them.

And as to the latter, I thought I did say that, but if I didn’t, I did reasonably good clan play in both of those genres… although like I said not in FPS since the very early 2000s, so my knowledge is kind of (very) dated. I’ve never played a console FPS, screw that ><

The funny thing is, I like them in absolutely different ways. In total honesty I think that there’s too much of the exploration aspect in a lot of fighting games right now. What fighting games offer (or what I think they should offer) is a chance to go head-to-head with people and play against them. These ‘exploration mode’ games get in the way of that.

The joy of fighting games is there’s a lot of skill and decision-making, but it’s all immediate. In a RTS or a 4x game you have to be constantly running a much longer-range plan. In Fighting games (in my experience), you have a general gameplan, but you have to be constantly outguessing and reacting to your opponent on a second to second basis.

And that's the thing I'm trying to get at I guess. Taking MvC3 as the posterboy for 'dumbed down' games, not only do you have to have simply *massive* matchup knowledge to play at even a moderately high level, you have to have really high levels of judgement and reactions. I simply don't see how that can be considered dumbed down, especially compared to some of the classics, which are so much more straightforward. Even XF, which gets so much hate, still substantially favors the *more skilled* player, and is just about as good at putting someone away when you're ahead as it is as a comeback.

Or are you counting that there are blind guess 50/50 mixups as it being dumbed down? See to me that's a different thing. There's plenty of bad balance and design decisions, I might actually be harsher on the game than you are in that sense... but a lot of games have that, all the way back.

And yeah, lol we really do wander a lot don’t we. It all comes down to the same 3 discussions, which is hilarious or terrible, depending on your mood

that’s part of what i mean by dumbed down, yeah

I just wanted to point out further that I have the best posts in this thread.

LOL, but are you Cisco level Best SRK Poster of all time?

When Seth disappears, chaos follows.

Well, I don’t think that’s intentional. I always think of ‘dumbed down’ in terms of the accessibility discussion. If we’ve been mostly talking at cross-purposes all this time, I’m gonna be sad.

Its because unless you exclusively play MK games, you’re full of shit.

I like the contrast in KoF characters and SF or even Fatal Fury before it.

This guy is a little on the pretentious/wordy side, but he makes a lot of good points. For one, Street Fighter characters are more timeless where KoF characters look very contemporary, even changing looks to keep up with the story or new style. Some are total failures (like Lucky Glauber) and some are just annoying (90’s Jonathan Taylor Kensou), but overall they look more like individual characters than archetypes.

There’s a reason that King is a cool character but she would be out of place in SF, or why Adon fits into SF but is mega lame when compared to Joe.

how? Asthetics are a big part of it. I don’t want to play a game where a lot of the characters look like they came out of a hentai film, nor do I want to play a game full of loli looking characters.

It’s a matter of degree anyways. SF2 may not look much like MK, but it sure as hell doesn’t look much like Melty either.

Maybe something like:

Left being least anime right being most anime.

The only fighting game i’ve been playing lately are MvC2, SkullGirls, and Gundam Extreme V.S. If it wasn’t for half the stuff the scrubs wouldn’t read on Domination 101, by S-Kill, I wouldn’t have that extra upper hand on my mindset and skill for fighting games.

S-Kill, hooked on phonics worked for me. GGs man

Its a good thing that’s the definition of anime, hentai or lolis.

MK is?

No, that can’t be right.
