Seth-in-depth Match-up Thread

If you consider being just as unsafe as a fireball fine. It’s pretty weak for zoning fireball characters.

I get why people hate playing him too. Hell, all my friends play my Seth, I share anti-Seth stuff with whatever character they are playing and they still find it annoying

His mixup game is just too good. You are constantly guessing. Once you think you have all the options figured out, you get tagged by some new mixup/gimmick. It’s fun as a Seth player but I can get why it’s annoying.

I just don’t care for people who hate on Seth if they don’t know the matchup or don’t try to learn the matchup. I’ve run across a lot of players who will talk shit to my face for playing him, but when I ask them why they didn’t use X, X, X to stop X, they can’t answer me. They hate the character, but won’t bother trying to learn things to to limit his options.

Like when I play Cody’s and see I’m not getting my Dive Kicks/Wall Dives punished by b + mp, or when my Wall Dives aren’t getting punished by s.hk or b + mp, I know I can go to town. It’s little shit like that, which can help against the Seth matchup.

asiancore is exactly right. let me elaborate on last nights matches. First i fight a 2000 bp abel. i wreck him and even mess up with extremely punishable mistakes. what does he do??? he sits there. not 1 combo. at the end i mess up a reset after i dizzie his so i go for ex srk (i rarely srk btw RARELY, this was my first srk of the match) and then i get the win. he then decides to call me a masher and such. i tell him to check the replay etc. he sends me 3 voicemails or how mediocre i am as a seth player and that i suck. funny thing is that we get paired in ranked again and he doesnt stay in my room to show me how good HE is.

next we have an akuma. Of all people Akuma with his j back fbs. As a religious sf player i learn my matchups quite well and not Bitch at stuff so i learn how to get around his runaway games or i play his game too and just jump his fbs and wait. first two rounds i rape again (no i dont run i kept comboing him)… but on his last little live of r2 i got for a splashy ending with super chip and unfortunately get a wiffed srk. lol. and he gets lucky. the rest of the match im trying to be safe since i dont wanna lose my bp to this dude. Clock says 10 sec, we are both at about 1 hit health left. i finally end up baiting him by jumping a fb and then cancelling my jump with a dive. he srk wiffs and walla i get my match.

Oh boy did he send me so mcuh hate on my “running away” and how he has an old replay where he beat me. Its like im freaking daigo or something that its Celebrating worthy to beat a seth with high bp. i laughed cuz i sent him an endless invite too. he refused. but hes badass behind his long ass messages about how hes clearly better cuz he has an OLD replay (prob before i learned the matchup) of beating me ONE match out of ONE match. and then he goes back to kindergarden telling me im blocked lol wtf?

oh and did i mention they keep talking about me being a nobody? lol i know im a nobody thats why im at homeplaying street fighter and not out wasting my money on booze and tight women! lmao. Way to try to mess with my self esteem when its higher than cheech n chong.

In conclusion. (to the seth haters) seth is easy to beat if u learn the matchup. there are other chars with great mixups and seth isnt godlike. its people’s needs for having everything given to them for free that make the hate happen. dont just sit there in the corner being owned, fight back and actually try and attack. take the time to actually learn to even fadc and get off noob mode. U ALREADY CAUSED SEVERAL NERFS ON EASILY BEATABLE THINGS AND ARE STILL CAUSING FUTURE NERFS. Gaah i think ima put my account on family to not even recieve these inmature rants.

btw seth vs seth sucks but if you learn the matchup its easy. LESSON 1 - first one to jump dies.

…Seth is not easy to beat if you learn the matchup. At least, not if Seth knows the matchup. You have to actually outplay the player as well as knowing the matchup.

I agree with you 100% on that comment. Seth matchup is never easy, even in Seth’s 4-6’s.

As I mentioned, knowing the Seth matchup lets you limit his tools which certainly doesn’t make the match free, but makes it much breathable.

It’s one of the reasons why, when I play against friends locally or meet new people locally who may or may not know the Seth matchup, I key them into anything I find personally about Anti-Seth strategies. It honestly makes me a better player, playing against someone who CAN limit my tools and force me to think quickly/outside the box.

Playing Seth against someone who has no clue against the matchup, teaches me absolutely nothing.

Asian is right again. I like telling my friends how to beat out my crap. The good players will punish me and then ill learn to punish them as practice. I have a friend whom we both get better on our matchups and we keep countering everything

You don’t know what you’re talking about.

Seth’s Frame Data when you add the startup, active -1, and recovery frames, Seth’s standing fierce is 45 frames total; same as most characters’ fireballs and the total frames of most jumps.

Dhalsim’s Frame Data Dhalsim’s standing fierce is 31 frames with 6 active frames and a 10 frame startup. It also doesn’t leave him terribly negative on hit and block like Seth’s does. It can actually be used to stuff the startup of fireballs multiple times in a row rather than trading or getting beat like Seth’s will. Most importantly, Dhalsim can usually block or anti-air if his gets jumped over.

You obviously don’t know what you’re talking about if you think that Seth’s standing fierce compares to Dhalsim’s.

You’re putting words in my mouth, I said you don’t know what you’re talking about because you say his standing fierce isn’t good for zoning fireball characters, which is pretty false. His standing fierce is his second best poke imo.

I apologize then. It works for zoning fireball characters, but it’s not very good at it IMO; especially compared to Dhalsim’s pokes.

Seth’s srk is 2 frames slower than Kens, his spd is 1 frame slower than Giefs, and Chuns Legs don’t have insane recovery, just imagine if Seth had those, I would nut myself xD

Lol safe legs. They’d be so broken if they were plus frames on block like Chuns are. I’d kill for a 2 frame SPD with more range though. Punishing most specials that would be considered safe on blocked would be great.

An air fireball would be extra fun when combined with stomps.

So in endless i randomly found out that u can neutral jump mp (not the double punch) on bison wakeup. U have to be next to him and jump as he does ex stomp then punch before he gets to the ark. This is much safer than srk incase he does drill instead. Plus u get a sweet mixup afterwards no meter burn needed

Shoryu beats all of Bisons wake up besides u1 and teleport.

Ill sometimes to do nj stomp jmp stomps in corner on bisons. It’ll beat out headstomp and u2, I can’t recall it being stuffed out by anything else. I haven’t really thoroughly tested it out yet, I scarecely fight bison players.

Does non ex legs beat chicken wing?

Probably not seeing as regular legs don’t have strike invincibility. Just SRK chicken wings. They’re slow as hell and easy to react to; especially if you Wiggle DP after your fireball (scroll down or ctrl F it).

What on earth can you do to rose? Shes such a bitch to fight cause of her fucking retarded backdash. Also U1 or U2? Ill probably rarely play seth in this matchup over hawk but I was playin last night and I was using U2. I’m pretty sure U1 would be the right choice though.

I’d definately use U1 simply because she cannot throw any type of fireball except EX since they all have pretty slow start-up, also you can catch he backdashes and spiral arrow attempts if you feel yourself lol.

Definitely U1 for the Rose matchup. You can catch all her fireballs with your eyes closed. Also (obviously) it punishes bad jump-ins, etc.

Watch out for Rose’s slide. Good Rose players will bait that Dive Kick, slide under it and throw for a free knockdown.

Also I almost want to say be smart about throwing fireballs. I’ve played a good handful of solid Rose players and most will absorb bad ones. You’d be surprised how quick Rose can get 3 bars against fireball characters. Don’t give her free meter.

Rose’s U2 makes it a little annoying for Seth’s rushdown once she has it, and sometimes she’ll get it twice in a match. Just know that most Rose players will burn that shit when they have it, mostly as guess damage and or a “get off me” card.

Bait it out and pop the orbs with a well spaced Tanden Engine (forgot which punch button, was it fierce?)
