Seth-in-depth Match-up Thread

I played a few good honda last night, they really really enjoy abusing buttslam even not used as a reversal, focus that shit and punish them hard for it. Just like EX Rainbow Ball or Vega non-EX wall slashes.

Oh, safejump the EX buttslam and punish with SPD, it’s free then meaty dive kick, enjoy it.

Edit1: The biggest tip I can give anyone on the boxer matchup is.

Don’t be afraid to engine, it fucks his entire game up.

Edit2: And I played with a few good Chuns too, starting to understand why the matchup is more 5-5 than 6-4 Chun…I’m happy with myself, my money match shouldn’t be a problem :slight_smile:

everytime i try that, they always jump it and i eat a combo

When are you doing it and which version of it are you doing?

Any good Honda player will neutral jump and if you use super he’ll do HP (or something, never played honda myself lol) and hold back to land on your boom.

I would assume this was common knowledge by now. I typically only throw HP Sonic Boom -> Super (Making it almost impossible for him to land on it) if I believe he will try to drive himself onto the boom.

I generally mean jump forward when I say “(He jumps over)” because most Honda’s will prefer being in close vicinity rather than full-screen against Seth.

I’m doing it when they’re in the lp. dash punch range and sweep. Also , did anyone else get an update in the past two-three days? I swear seth’s dive kick is back to the speed of the vanilla one. Please some1 check if this is true.

Try cancelling into Tanden Engine (lp) from crouching strong and crouching medium. When he is really far away you can mess with him by doing the OCCASIONAL mp or hp Tanden Engine (depending on distance) to suck him closer into your crouching medium range.

Also, uuuuuhh… Is doing it in sweep range smart? i think that’s just begging to be… Sweeped. Or even worse, Ultra’d on reaction. like CEO said, cr.mk xx lp.Tanden.

I didn’t notice any difference in divekick myself, and there’s no message of the game being patched or anything after it checks for DLC at startup…

I advise anyone here to put vanilla into your PS3/360 and just do ONE dive kick. Just one. notice how fast it is.

If Dive kick was as good as it used to be, half of the dive kick>whiff>U2 combos, would not be punishable on hit, simply because you’d land while they were still way high up in the air.

i was playing against a Ryu player who was pretty good (forget name and I’m at work atm) but like on his Mic you could hear him and like giving the tough guy talk he nearly had me beat too. he was ALMOST at full screen distance away, like just over half, and he was doing U1 that would have killed me had I have blocked or it connected at all. As he cast it before I was even in start up of getting back up. I thought to myself I wonder if EX legs would get this guy (especially since he was NEAR the left corner) so as he cast I said fk it and EX Lightning legs right through the U1 and BARELYYYY connected on him lolol U2 in the corner = him dead and all you hear from him is WHAT THE FUCK??? I didn’t know you could do that!!! lolol

Makes ya kinda wonder what the full extent of distance that EX legs has lol

If anyone tries to do chip damage with fireballs at full screen you can always just do a back teleport to be safe. If Ryu does something like that you can just forwards teleport and land whatever the hell you want.

EX Legs feels like it has more range than it actually does against a lot of fireball moves because most characters move their hands way forwards when they fireball.

What are you guys opinion on Rufus vs Seth?

I though Rufus had the advantage there but the japanese match-ups have it the opposite way around.

Maybe I fucked up and thought Rufus had the advantage though.

6-4 in vanilla, 5-5 in Super.

I agree, rufus isn’t nearly as good vs seth as he was in super, though I’m yet to play a good rufus in super - I don’t see how the matchup could be in seths favour though, rufus still has plenty of tools and good damage output, so I guess 5-5 sounds about right.

Man what the heck is Rufus gonna do if he can’t jump at you (IE you are good at AA DP)? If he picks U2 he can cut down on the Sonic Booms but he still has to deal with ground pokes and j.hp. Instant air stomp rapes EX Messiah and gives you a 50/50. Seth has a teleport, a DP, a backdash he can’t option select, and an invincible command grab.

Seriously Rufus has to get lucky to get in and if he guesses wrong he gets knocked down. Once that happens Seth can do dumb stuff that is mostly safe (because his reversals are slow). Even if he does knock you down as long as you’re not in the corner you’re fine. Definitely use U2 in this matchup because U1 isn’t really useful at all. Only real purpose is for punishing EX Messiah on block. And before someone tells me that Rufus can do the overhead followup to dodge U1, if you delay it so it’s not a reversal he gets caught.

If you get knocked down in the corner then yes you are in trouble. But if Rufus picks U2 then he loses a lot of his scariness in the corner.

If you have perfect timing after a blocked Galactic Tornado you can do a safe cr.lp. Only way for Rufus to punish it is Ultra 1, EX Messiah and Ultra 2 are too slow.

There’s no way Seth vs Rufus is 5-5, and anyone who says so is retarded.

Seth vs Rufus is 5-5 or better for Seth. There are so many different ways for Seth to get out of Rufus’s pressure and he can’t cover them all. Rufus’s best mixups are between throw and divekick and you can tech throws on reaction if you’re on point. Just don’t throw tech OS and you’ll be fine.

Seth beats Rufus pretty easy.
