but it seems 2d games (newer ones) are moving more to guilty gear/AC/ melty blood/ dojin type games.
The game is new and Ill play the shit out of it,but I dont see how it can replace marvel. I cant see it taken marvels place in gameplay.
The sad part about it I think if there is going to be a mvc3, its going to be slapped with a Guilty gear/ dojin game engine, Because The japanese suck at marvel. :sad:

Although I don’t play a lick of Marvel (I try to play it but fail at it horribly), I kinda get what you mean. TvC, at best, does feel like a mixture of Arcana Heart, Melty Blood, & Guilty Gear at some points of time but that’s just through my experience with all these games.
You might be right with that frame of thinking about Marvel 3 ending up similar to the gameplay of TvC in some aspects and it might not be surprising if it does happen. I mean, at least I haven’t heard of any good turnouts of Marvel in Japan out of all the time it’s been there compared to other countries. Maybe the Japanese do suck at Marvel but you might have your rare gems in their community whom are actually good…I don’t know.
All in all, I think you’re not far off from the right path of thinking of how Marvel 3 might turn out if TvC is any indication. For all the Marvel players out there, better hope for the best.

Ummm what was so complicated or whatever about MvC2’s gaming engine to make TvC seem less like it?
they are essentially the same game just TvC is more user friendly.

1 less assist
being able to Burst/Mega-Crush out of essential combo’s thus getting rid of infinite’s.
Easier (See: Dial-A) Combos.
You can still DHC, Double Hyper, Assist Counter, everything the marvel engine had you just don’t get to select the style of assist they use.
It’s basically Japans Marvel.
Try playing the game before judging it.
Also, Japan hated marvel for a lot of reasons. The characters they grew up with (Capcom) weren’t usable, Marvel isn’t as culturally influenced in japan as it is here so a lot of the characters they were just :wtf: at. Plus the huge imbalance issues marvel has set them off to the game.

Anyways you are right the Japs are going to kill off marvel simply because the engine didnt turn out in there favor.Best believe Japan is taking tvc at evo.Hopefully mvc3 dont turn out to be what you think,but I am afraid it might become true.
PS: I think marvel is going to stick around intill there is another marvel engine,think about it.There is no game like marvel and also if they take it from evo,it’s still going to be play at locals as the main game because I dont thnk marvel players are going to drop marvel for a non marvel type game.

Let me give you guys a hint. Japan doesn’t give a flaming fuck about us.
We beat them in Marvel because we take it more seriously than they do. They have plenty of other games being released every 15 seconds over there, and Marvel just didn’t thrive.
They’re not trying to erase Marvel because we beat them at it. If they really wanted to, they could revive Marvel and beast the shit out of us in a few years. They hang out in huge arcades with the best players of the world, and the US is stuck in pockets around the country, limiting our potential. Face it, they’re just not interested.
It wasn’t replaced though. It’s almost the same engine as marvel.

This. It’s not because of some Japanese superiority, it’s just that their arcade scene is about a billion times what ours is. If they gave a shit, it would show.

tvc is MB & GG combine with a mvc1 assit in my book. For the marvel haters all I can say is marvel is going to stick around till its a remix mode or something in that nature.
My copy hasn’t gotten to me yet, but from the vids it looks like a continuation of the engine line from MvC1 and earlier games.
Sides, Japan’s been moving in that direction of bigger combos and complex system direction for years. Marvel 2 is every bit a part of that.

LOL, isn’t this game basically a Marvel game with 3 attack buttons and a few GG systems (burst and roman cancels)? I don’t understand people claiming that this is not a Marvel game at all.
i swear i think all devs are just scared of making a game that can surpass marvel. everything that has anything that borrows from it is always a watered-down version of whatever was in marvel
i doubt that they made TvC less Marvel style cause they suck at marvel. probably they just think that the gameplay of MvC2 sucks like the majority of players outside of America does too.
It has some similarity compared to MvC because of the “over the top” moves but else i just think that they wanted to improve the gameplay and not go into the piece of shit gameplay direction that is MvC2.
Do you honestly think that TvC is the way it is because Japan’s FGC can’t play Marvel(which is also a horribly wrong assumption, they just don’t have a large community that cares like the US does)? This simple-minded arrogance I’d expect out of 3S players, but it’s kinda sad that some Marvel enthusiasts are like that too. TvC is the way it is because of previous Vs series games.
It’s a natural progression, made for a Japanese demographic, with the idea that they can hook players new and old due to the Tatsunoko IPs. Just like how the Marvel games were, starting with X-Men: Children of the Atom. They had a decent market for it, however they fucked up in Japan when they dropped MvC2 in the arcades and made it almost impossible for players in the arcades and at home to unlock all the characters. That combined with the goofy nerfs all around made a lot of people who played the older games(even those that played MvC1 in the US, if you could believe that) stop playing.
I’m noticing a trend in the posts of the Marvel players.

JAPAN’S FGC IS NOT KILLING OFF MARVEL BY PLAYING THIS GAME. CAPCOM JAPAN DID NOT TAKE THE US MVC2 COMMUNITY IN CONSIDERATION WHEN THEY MADE THIS GAME. THEY DID NOT HAVE A MEETING WITH WHATEVER JAPANESE PLAYERS YOU DO KNOW AND SAY “HEY I KNOW YOU GUYS DON’T LIKE GETTING BEATEN BY US PLAYERS. YOU MUST LOSE A LOT OF SLEEP KNOWING THESE GUYS ARE SO MUCH BETTER THAN YOU IN THIS ONE GAME. HOW ABOUT WE MAKE A NEW ONE WITH CHARACTERS THAT ONLY WE KNOW ABOUT?”
That being said, you guys can keep Marvel, don’t hate because new games are coming out that aren’t MvC2 clones.
1: If you strip down all the goofy things in MvC2, you have at least 6 games that are “like Marvel”.
2: Who says Marvel players have to drop their game? If Evo doesn’t have it, what’s stopping the other regional majors from having it? what’s keeping the Marvel community from making their own? Why must it be Marvel or nothing?
It’s not being replaced. No one magically made all copies of MvC2 stop working. Enjoy a new game, and let that be all there is to it.
