you aren’t, Reloaded was awesome and the end to Revolutions is perfect
I liked the Matrix sequels. The Matrix wasn’t really that great to begin with.
The Matrix sequels are good. Order of goodness: Reloaded, First Matrix, and Revolutions.
Blasphemy
^ I’m not sure if that guy is serious.
oh but I was! I spoke in relative terms deliberately. I do like the original Matrix, but its just a popcorn flick to me, and lots of people I know seem to hold it in much higher esteem, so don’t think its that great, but I enjoy it quite a bit. I even like Keanu.
The first act of the first Matrix movie (Neo is awakened and gets used to the real world) is marvelous. The second act (Neo and Co. go to see the Oracle; shit hits the fan) is pretty good. The last act (the mission to rescue Morpheus) is pretty much mindless action, which is fine if you’re looking for that sort of thing. Most action movies follow this pattern minus the marvelous first act, so the first Matrix has a bit more going for it.
The problem is that you can pick out a distinct downhill trend in the intelligence of the first one. While the second film makes an admirable effort to reverse this trend, it ends up being a poorly constructed mishmash of action setpieces and philosophizing that doesn’t have much intrinsic relation to what’s going on in the story. The three threads–the battles, the ideas, and the events–they never fit together as tightly as they do in the first one. It gets even worse in the third, which is a big messy blob of a movie.
Ah, I see.
I don’t see how the majority of video games belong in this thread at all. I don’t care how stupid Double Dragon V is it’ll never stop me from playing the others that came before it. The bullshit that is arcade Double Dragon III doesn’t stop 1 and 2 from being fun here and there. No matter how many shitty games come out with Sonic’s name on it the Genesis era Sonics will still be fucking fantastic. Also I don’t see how the fuck anyone can bring up the Final Fantasy games because those games are sequels in name only. That has to be the series with the most loosely applied definition of “sequel” in the history of ever (with the ACTUAL sequels being obvious exceptions).
Mass Effect on the other hand is one of the rare exceptions. I haven’t played 3, but if the ending is as bad as everyone says it is then I get it because I’ve played the first two. It’s a trilogy, so if the last part is shit it does put a damper on the earlier ones.
I think the original Matrix is a little overrated but the sequels flat out killed any legitimacy it had.
The 3rd Resident Evil flick!! &$#%^&%
First movie was great! I don’t care what anyone says( i hear the whining already. Knock it off). So what if It didn’t follow the game characters? It was still very well done for another story in the RE universe and i liked the Alice character.
Second movie? Didn’t stick to the high bar of the first, but was decent.
3rd movie? WTF? I know the post-apocalyptic world is a tempting proposition for filmmakers but few get it right. Most of the time it turns out badly and this is as good an example as any. Since when does the T-Virus dry up oceans and kill all vegetation also? Dumb explanation for a dumb movie.
And every other entry in the series after just abandoned even trying to make sense of the story, and put all their emphasis on great action from start to finish. Retribution didn’t even have a story, it was just one huge, dumb, awesome action scene. Which they succeed on that note, but it saddens me to think what might have been if the 3rd movie hadn’t gone full-retard like that and derailed the train.
No they don’t, the action in those RE movies is some of the worst “action” ever put to film.
On the subject of TV shows, I’ve always kind of wished they’d go the direction of animes where there’s a set 2 seasons/52 Episodes to tell the story. Have the whole story line planned out and then end it when you’re done. The way TV shows seem to be now, as long as it’s profitable the network will just keep renewing for more and more seasons. Then the creators either run out of ideas, it jumps the shark, or the show gets cancelled before they actually finish their main story line.
Stop looking at them as videogame adaptations, and more like action movies guest-starring RE characters. You’ll appreciate them more, as opposed to just being eternally butthurt because they aren’t faithful adaptations.
Thats where i’m at right now. The story has long since waved bye-bye, but as a glorified 90-minute action scene? Retribution was pretty awesome.
I’m not looking at them as adaptations, I’m looking at them as movies, and the action is dog shit. Horribly choreographed action full of slow mow, matrix knock off garbage. The writing is shitty as hell, and most of the acting is phoned in. Let me know when Paul Anderson is done turning his wife into Female Neo.

Too late dude. She knows kung fu…
Games:
Dead Space 2
RE6
SF4
Darksiders 2
Ratchet and Clank All 4 One
Tekken 6
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2
Shows/Movies:
Heroes
Mummy 3
Blade 3
Dawn of the Dead Remake (killed all zombie movies for me for the most part)
Games:
Dead Space 2
SF4
Tekken 6
[snipped]Shows/Movies:
Heroes

Dammit… You beat me to Heroes… Talk about jumping the shit out of the shark… Almost as bad as the continuation of Air Gear… Read that shit in all it’s absurdity.
I don’t think Dead Space 2 and Tekken 6 killed the series. Dead Space 2 reminds me a lot of RE4 and I think they’re both quality action titles.
I don’t think SF4 is bad… I don’t think it’s good but I think it’s an okay entry into the SF series… I still miss the parrying. I subconsciously parry when my opponent jumps at me… At I try to parry fireballs…
Tomb Raider Underworld killed Lara Croft for me… It was so boring. Luckily, this new entry into TR is pretty amazing.
Going to go out on a limb here (not really) and put Madden 2005 on the list because it’s the year EA and the NFL entered their exclusionary deal… Which fucked the rest of the world’s quality NFL titles… Backbreaker would have definitely sold better w/ NFL licensing… Hard ass game though but definitely fun.
Last, but not least:
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. It wasn’t a bad game but… Wow… They follow up a 5-star game narrated by one of the most memorable characters in a point-and-click at the time w/ a game that’s subpar in terms of adventure, okay at puzzles, voice acting is pretty good but left w/ a bitch ass cliff-hanger and open ending and no sequel for the past 7 years… Here’s hoping for good things to come w/ Dreamfall: Chapters but there’s still a nasty taste in my mouth from Dreamfall…
I honestly cannot say how bad Ultimate Alliance 2 was…
XML1 and 2 were great.
UA1 was awesome.
UA2… Felt like Mass Effect 2. Watered down bullshit.
None of those Resident Evil movies were good. And I think you could blame them for ruining RE. It did seem like the devs of RE5 and 6 (especially) were inspired by those movies.
