Sept 7 2004. Blockbuster

I went back yesterday and picked up the TPB - seems that it WAS out the first day, RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE STRATEGY GUIDE when I went day before, but I was so happy to actually find the controller, I didn’t pay any attention to it. I even moved it to see the guide.

Again, nice artwork on the new cover - I enjoyed reading it from front to back.

I called around to let a few friends who were after the special controllers know what was going on.

Picked mine up yesturday. Here in Fort Collins, Colorado there isnt much of a following so all the Blockbusters had plenty of both controllers and TBP. But the employess didnt know what the hell it was one of them compared it to the sponge bob endcap next to it, I wanted to slap him after I bought my stuff lolz!

Liked the TBP and the CO. the only gripe I have is that it does not default to 3S on the PS2 kind of a bummer. But I havent checked to see if it will default to CVS2 I think it will cause 3S is a lil different in the configuration.

My friend from the Selden/Port Jefferson area, reported to me that his blockbuster (sorry i’m not sure which one it is) is carryin both the Akuma AND RYU controllers… He says he’s seen it and couldn’t get it cause he only brought money to get the TPB… ~.^

Can someone please confirm this information or tell me if THEIR blockbusters carry the Ryu controller?

I am a bit skeptical, but if i’m proven wrong then it’s off to BB or Selden i go!..

thanks

is this just an american promo cuz I checked again today (10th) and no BB i’ve gone to even knows what i’m talking about…

anybody know whats the Street Fighter Round One: Fight is about? is it cover about the beginning of the story?

That’s the TPB volume 1 I think, it contains #0-6 (The entire first arc) minus the back-up stories.

u r right.

i’ve been to four blockbusters today (september 11th) and only one had anything street fighter related. I picked up the somic and a akuma controller. the controller, while being very cool, seems as if more work went into making the box than the actual controller, but still its all very cool.

my STL BB has ryu & akuma so they should be in KC also. My ryu comic has bubbles!

Forgive my ignorance but what does TBP stand for?

TPB stands for Trade Paper Back

Basically, it’s a comic term for a collection of issues of a comic reprinted in ones book. So a Street Fighter TPB #1 contains the first set of comics together (in this case, issues #0 - #6 of the comic). It allows you to catch up and get into the comic series without breaking your wallet – however, they won’t be as valuable down the line.

Plus, with the Street Fighter TPB, you’ll be missing all the backup stories.

can some canadian person please tell me if they’ve had any success or is this just an american deal??..

I was about to ask the same question…
Will they be avaible here in Italy too? We have blockbusters here… I do hope so, since shipping for two of those controllers will be so damn expensive - sigh
The boxes are huge !!

I just got my Akuma controller and TPB in the northport blockbuster for you long islanders. They had a couple more.

By the way, since I see many of you are from the island. I will be hosting a CVS2 tournament at the southshore mall EBGames on 9/25th. 2:00 Free entry and there will be prizes.

I got mine on the 9th, good stuff and I bought TPB same time. Funny thing is I had never even come to this topic, I just saw something that said “Covers story of first 1-6 voluames” I thought it was going to be a summary, luckily it was the actual full comics! I want to know something, with the controller did it come with both 7 AND 8, because at the official website i looked at previews and I’ve seen most of those pictures. I want the backstories too though :frowning:

yup, it’s confirmed… i’ve been to two stores (in seaford, NY and i forgot what the other town is, although my friend in Selden, NY Long ISland was right) the RYU CONTROLLERS WERE OUT!!!

Unfortunately, it was all the way in the back with the discount controllers on the bottom shelf, far away from the TPB and i STILL haven’t seen any Ryu posters, promo posters or any sales rack dedicated to Street Fighter…

NO ONE IS GOING TO BUY THEM IF THEY DONT KNOW THEY ARE OUT!!!

Hey, I’m a newbie here, (well, long time reader, first time poster) and I figured I’d let you all know how things are in South Carolina (or Anderson, anyway) and the only Blockbuster I know of does carry the Ryu and Akuma controllers, along the exclusive TPB. They didn’t have a big display or anything, it was just stuck on the end of one of the videogame aisles. I can’t speak for most of the employees, but when I was checking out (I could only afford the TPB ;_; ), the guy was a HUGE fan of Street Fighter. He was like, “Is this ALL you’re gonna get??” He told me about the controllers and how he REALLY wanted the Akuma one, and how the Street Fighter Anniversary game was so awesome. Just a real friendly guy (and it was a relief for me at least. I’ve been reading about so many places where the employees were clueless). Overall, I do think the controllers and TPB will do just fine, so bring on the next wave!

I just bought the Blockbuster TPB today in Iowa. They only had 3 TPBs on display (by the game section), 2 Akuma controllers, 2 Ryu controllers, and 3 strategy guides. I didn’t see the Ryu poster/banner others have mentioned, but I may have overlooked it since I didn’t stay long.

When I got to the register, the guy rung up the TPB and shockingly said, “are you sure you want this? It’s $10.49.”

When I got home and looked through the TPB, some pages inside were crinkled up and bent, which is curious since it was still in the shrink wrap when I bought it. Oh, well.

I love the new cover, it’s much better in my opinion than the first. I’m not a huge fan of the smaller size, but if it saves money, than I suppose it’s not a huge problem.

Regarding the shrink wrap comment, you might notice that when you go from store to store, sometimes the shrink wrap is loose and sometimes it’s tight. The graphic novels are shipped to the retail stores unwrapped, where it is then wrapped and “shrunk” by the employees in the receiving department.

Stores will receive import CDs, DVDs and magazines unwrapped and outside of the original wraping from it’s country of origin. In the case with Blockbuster, since there is an average of three per store, they probably received the graphic novels in the box with the controllers, the games, or the strat guides, and were most likely prone to some mishandling by any of the many hands through whom they have passed.

Wow, I had no idea; thanks for the insight, Gain.

Also, there is only 3 TPBs per store? If this is true, I might have to look into getting the other two copies left.
