Sept 7 2004. Blockbuster

I just picked mine up in Berkeley, CA. Just make sure to look around, for me it was on one of the sides of an aisle about 3 aisles away from the video games.

U mean the book or the controllers?

My local store had some of the stuff but it was kinda scattered. In the strategy guide section, they had the new BradyGames SF Anniversary Collection guide (which i don’t think is related to the Udon stuff). Then in a metal shelf that formed the checkout line they had three Akuma controllers and three Ryu controllers for $24.99 each. Then at the checkouts they had a few of the Ryu/Bison cover TPB’s sealed in a weird plastic wrapper.

I just bought one of the Ryu/Bison TPB’s cuz i gave away my Cammy/Chun one not too long ago. The girl was like “Is that it?” and i said yeah and she said “Are you sure? That thing is like ten bucks.” lol i dunno if that’s a good sign …

Hey Erik, my third store was a Corporate location, and they had the SF stuff!!

However, they hadn’t unpacked it yet, but I could see where they were going to set up. It was kinda out of the way in the corner, but definitely in the game section. They had Akuma and Ryu controllers (which they unpacked in back for me). I’ll have to go back for the TPB once I get some more money (I had to use what I had on the controllers). The Anniversary Collection Strategy Guide wasn’t in the SF area, it was with the other guides. My concern is that people who aren’t in the game section won’t notice it, and thus won’t know about the TPB, but casual gamers will see it and perhaps have their interest sparked.

All in all, I think this will be a pretty good deal. Thanks for the heads up!!

(The picture at the bottom was taken from another website)

Got a chance to open the package and use the contents.

1 - Controller - very easy to use, nice and responsive (I set my shoulder buttons to EX moves). Feels very lightweight, yet very sturdy at the same time. Great color scheme, great design, looks kick-ass! My only gripe? I foresee a few accidents soft resets in the future due to the Start and Select being so close to the 6 face buttons.

2 - Comic - Great read, great art! Delta Red in action! I enjoyed all the stories going on, and the surprise guest at the end.

3 - Overall packaging - THANK YOU - Finally, a special controller for a special occasion that isn’t packaged like, “here you go, cheap cardboardbox, art from the manual, it’s special you buy it!” A lot of care and thought was put into the design of the packaging, and I REALLY APPRECIATE IT. I was VERY surprised when I picked up the box to find out that it is constructed of that same type of wood used for a pencil/crayon box, but with EXCELLENT glossy Akuma Artwork (good thing). Quite a bargain for the price we paid!

  • FX

SIDENOTE - I’ll definitely be picking up that Capcom Character Guide when it comes out.

sounds good but too bad there,s no blockbuster arou nd where i live.

I was told the shipment probably got pushed back because of Labor Day. Pssh! More like GAYbor day! Will have to check back in tomorrow. Sigh!

GAH, I didn’t have the chance to go today! How long will this be going on?

Anyone know if the comic will be the same in all of the controllers?

a bit disappointed,…

but, i’ve come to expect these things. There are a myriad of Blockbusters around me, but out of the three i visited, two in massapequa, one on sunrise hwy and the other on Carmen’s road, and one on Hempstead Turnpike, NY, only one had the controllers, the one on Sunrise Highway. The one on Hempstead Turnpike had the TPB but didn’t have the controllers. The one on Carmen’s Road straight up had nothing.

In both Massapequa BBs the employees were lounging around talking. Now, i have no problem with this because they DID give attention to customers when they needed help, BUT they were talking loud enough for me to hear the following:

"Yeah, we were supposed to put up a Street Fighter display."
followed by chuckles…

If these employees and BB overall were a little less apathetic and more enthusiastic, then i’m sure you’d see overwhelming consumer response.

I want to see Udon and everything else like this continue, but if BB continues to show bad form, they will blame the product and there goes all the great stuff we know we can get.

If they would just take the hour to put up the display then they’d see how much society has been fiending for SF stuff…

I hope they shape up because i want to see subbed SF on the shelves and the comic go way past third strike arcs…

OTHERWISE

I got my controller and i got my TPB and i can’t wait to see what else you guys are gonna sell…

GREAT JOB UDON!

now just get BB to get on the ball and we’ll be in business!

THANKS!

damn i really would like to see that TPB cover, but since i live in germany and we dont have those bb stores… ah well…

Yeah. Sounds like the employees OBVIOUSLY know what Street Fighter is, so they should figure out that people will PROBABLY want to buy what is offered. If it’s SF, it’s going to turn a couple of heads.

Just because they think it isn’t worth their time, everyone else has to suffer.

Nothing was in the UK Cambridge branch, they said they didn’t stock anything like that… So I suppose us Brits are being left out? <_<

Dammit man I want that TPB! I suppose eBay is the usual resort?

Didn’t see a thing at two stores in Kansas City, MO.

there are 3 BB in Orleans(ottawa) Canada and none of them even knew what i was talking about let alone had any of the games to rent. I’ll check again in a weeks time i guess…

Woo! They got FedExed in today. The packaging is awesome. The comic inside was alright. Mine is kinda…messed up. Hard to explain. Like there are airbubbles coming from the cover and the back. No worries though. Just wanna get playing with the controller soon.

Just picked up the Akuma one at Blockbuster. So far, the first thing I tested on was on the DC and Total Control 2 controller. Plays very good with Vampire Chronicles so far and very helpful for people who accidently got Total Control 2 converters instead of the Total Control Plus ones.

so… so far, who has bought what?

Anymore BB reports?

First day report (Sept. 7): First BB had promo poster up, and TPB out. Employee was clueless. Bought TPB. Second store had only TPB out, also didn’t know what was going on, but said it was probably pushed back because of labor day. Third store…employee knew AND was excited about controllers. But didn’t have them. Only TPB.
Second day report (Sept. 8): First store STILL didn’t have them. I tell guy to call other stores. Guy finds out store #2 just got them from FedEx. I go to store #2 to buy controller. Female employees deem the awesome special packaging and moving art on controller “cute”. Wolfkiller sighes and walks out with Akuma controller in hand.(Edit: Wolfkiller also forgives females employees because they put his name down on the Ryu promo poster. Yay!)
