[Sep 2, 2011] Focus Fire and Keits Present - Fighter X Shooter - $2k in Bonus... (Northbrook, IL)

Yeah, typo! Sorry about that!

madden and shooters over tekken? way to try pulling more venue fees in

Tekken hasn’t exactly been pulling in the numbers recently; as much as I don’t care for shooters personally, its just as much of an event for them as for fighters

I love to be nice to you about this, but the 19 or so that entered Tekken at UFGT7 was pretty laughable. If you guys refuse to support your game, why should I?

There is a BYOC area at FxS, and more than enough time to run side tournament. You are more than welcome to organize a Tekken side event. We may even stream your finals. But I’m done supporting games that even the players wont support. I’ll wait until TTT2 to try again.

As MURPH said, this is a hybrid tournament. I’ll be handling the fighting game stuff, and Focus Fire handling the shooting and sports stuff. They aren’t side events at a fighting game tournament. We welcome all competitive games (that actually want to show up and support their games).

well no one from the tekken community wants to pay a retarded venus fee that isn’t going into the pot… but into someone elses pocket who’s just running it… then have to stay there for 3 days

whoo character auctions again, hope i dont miss the MK one this time

also please do late pools on friday like UFGT please!

Good point. Behaving like the smash community (complaining about venue fees, poor turnouts at non-smash events) is sure to get tournament organizers to keep your game around. Thanks for your input Sparda.

This isn’t final, but odds are that all character auctions will take place on Friday, and all pools on Saturday and some Sunday morning.

i’m not complaining about the venue fee… i’m just saying why should it matter if i decide to go to it 2 months ahead of time or 2 days? if i decide i can’t go months before… means i don’t have that much money… but if i have the money a couple days before… why should i be punished into paying a stupid fee? the venue doesn’t cost that much… **CHICAGO HEART **is at the same venue… and it’s only a $15 venue… $5 if you bring a set up to donate… and when you have hundreds of people showing up… where is this $50 venue fee going? not to the stupid prizes you’re giving out that’s for sure… i talked to a guy (who i’m not gonna mention his name) from Focus Fire… and everything that was given out as a prize at UFGT was from focus fire… NOT YOU KEITS! so someone has to be putting this money into their pockets… for what? just to call out people’s names? tournaments shouldn’t be run so someone can make some money off of a bunch of idiots… and this is why no one in the tekken community wants to come support your tournaments

and TTT2 isn’t gonna change anything… it’s gonna be the same few tekken players cuz no 2D player wants to play a game with actual thinking involved

honestly i could care less if you run tekken… but seeing you trying to pull shooters just to get some more money

Wait, what? I’m not going to have you spreading lies here. Focus Fire supplied the Nintendo 3DS/SF43D prize, and they brought equipment to the event for us as our sponsor. They may have thrown in a few T-shirts, and they had some kickass energy drinks at their booth. **Every single other prize came from me and other sponsors I wrangled. Every giveaway item was either me, BrokenTier, or Madcatz (we gave away over 80 prizes, not including the near 200 prizes we gave away in the fun and games corner). Every dollar of pot bonus (of which we paid nearly 3000) was from me. Only 9 people paid the 50 dollar venue fee at the door. The intention of the fee was to discourage you from registering at the door, and it worked. **

There are so many costs at these events that you cant even fathom until you’ve run one. Everything from printing the needed materials, to webhosting, to buying pens and clipboards, flying out and housing a stream crew, taking care of the staff, printing badges or buying wristbands, transporting everything from your storage area to the event (i live 3 hours away), and even things like power strips, and extension cords.

Last I checked, Chicago Heart 3 is a one day event. I don’t suppose you’ve thought your arguement through far enough to realize that renting a space for one day costs significantly less than renting it for three days. Or thought about the amount of space needed/rented? Why am I even asking you? You are clearly here to argue, and nothing more.

I’m sorry that you feel that event organizers should never make money. There are reasons why the venue fee scales up at large events (and you are seeing this at nearly all of them these days). Planning brackets, equipment logistics, and time management, all require as accurate a head-count as possible. Waiting until the last minute to register hurts the event’s ability to do what it needs to do. The sad fact of the matter is that if the price doesn’t go up, lazy people (which is sadly most of us, and this has been proven time and time again) will wait until the last minute just because we can. This type of thing has been wrecking tournaments for over a decade. If that explanation isn’t good enough for you, I’m sorry. Thats just the way things have to be when you are dealing with hundreds of people and a limited amount of equipment.

Pulling shooters “to make money” is a pretty brash assumption, too. You know, this isn’t my event alone this time. Its Focus Fire + Me. Focus Fire runs shooters all the time, at nearly all of their events. When Evan and I decided to pool our resources and do something as partners, we decided that other types of competitive games could definitely have a place to play in this event. You can bet your ass that UFGT8 and other Keits-only events will be fighting games only.

So to put this to rest, I’m sorry that you read the game list and thought “they chose shooters over tekken”. We didn’t. Tekken was never on the table for this event, because people aren’t coming out to play it in the midwest. Tekken tournaments nationwide, with the exception of Atlanta, have had very poor turnouts. Shooters were always going to be a part of this event, and they had no influence on deciding which three fighting games to run as official tournament titles. There is, of course, plenty of time/room in the BYOC to run a side event for Tekken. I’m sure the casual badge will be cheap enough (it was only $10 at UFGT7, even at the door) that you can make a last minute decision to come run a tekken side event. Perhaps this would have solved your issue with UFGT7, if I had dropped Tekken and just let the community run it on the side with the cheaper badge?

TLDR version: Stop making shit up.

bodied

i guess so… i’m not making shit up… this is info i got first hand from focus fire

You are, in fact, making shit up. Or someone is lying to you. Or, you are just trying to troll me (if this is the case, good job, it worked).

I might make it out to this, what time does it start on Friday? I got class that day :expressionless:

i’m am not trying to troll you… and i’m not making shit up…

there are other witnesses besides me that heard about it… and i can tell you his name is in the flyer you made for this tournament

so don’t be mad cuz someone is finally calling you out and not kissing your ass… cuz everyone is just a keits fan boys cuz all you do is post stuff on the front page of srk

I have a good feeling that all tournaments will start Saturday, and that most special events will run Friday. Having class shouldn’t prevent you from competing.

Awesome, then I should be able to make it.

Glad to have you, sir!

I’d like to arrange a few other special events as well, so stay tuned for some fun side events.

any amount that heartnana gets from the venue fees at chicago heart 3 (which is at the same location, and I know how much he paid) will not be kept by him and put back into the pot.

most tekken players only play one game, which is why MWC has worked for them for the past several years… because they didn’t have to stay there all weekend for one game

is chicago heart 3 gonna have more tekken players? probably not but the quality of players will be much greater

and lol… really? sammy has better things to do than make shit up, because wisconsin couldn’t care less about you

i got the ps2 controller. i need converters.

2nd of September, 14 days before I turn 18. Wonderful. Let’s kick some ass.
