Self entitled monsters+what really happened at UC Davis

First off I did because you blatantly said you know everyone to know this shit:

Obviously the people I know that just recently, not too long ago, said “damn, this corruption is real” you miraculously think for them. And like what No_cigar posted, I knew about what was going on, but not until the OWS movement, I wasn’t really informed until I started looking up on it and now I am even more troubled on what is going on like many people have been. Because in the past, due to media censorship to the masses, the people wasn’t as informed as they are now due to OWS.

…heh.

Hell, you’d be surprised how many people don’t even know what’s going on IN their own home.

You guys know that there’s a lot of people that actually have jobs that support and are part of the movement right? Workers, nurses, teachers, professors, celebrities, artists, veterans.

The people you see who actually physically Occupy are the ones who have the time to do so, and the passion. Others help out in their own ways, go out to large events, and do their part in their communities etc.

Nuclear still remains as one of the cleanest energy sources, it’s just that the US hasn’t built a new site in years because of the whole Three Mile Island event. Too bad the waste from it is still horrible. Solar is ridiculously inefficient - I was reading an article somewhere that said it takes so much energy to create, ship, and install solar panels, it doesn’t make sense to use make them, at least not in their current state. I don’t know if that is true or not and I wish I could find the article so I could link to it. I still support solar, but I don’t see it as a viable alternative right now. We should definitely continue using it to supplement, but I doubt it could ever replace anything.

Hopefully we find better ways to utilize things like geothermal or power from waves.

I did my undergraduate research on nulcear related topics. After doing that for 2 1/2 years I have a fond dislike of how the Government handles our nuclear program.

Basically we are cutting off the circulation to our own nuts for no good reason.

So do something about it. Like I said, OWS is piercing through people that are not as affected as those who are and it is informing more people.

I’m unsure if you are for it or against it.

Is it necessary but they are over regulating it, or are you trying to make a reference to how the nuclear radiation affects guys’ nuts?

Because I totally meant by “we” that I included every single man, woman, and child in this country, and assumed that 100% of the population was aware / interested in it.

So you were aware of it to begin with, and OWS didn’t change that fact. That’s what I’m pointing to. The fact that people were aware of this to begin with. Those people protesting? They were aware. As were a lot of other people. And everyone aware of it has known due to previous reports of what corporations and government have been doing for years. The fact that more people had become aware and now pissed off about it is why OWS is happening.

So I’ll ask again. Exactly what corruption is OWS putting into the light of the public that was not already in the light of the public to begin with?

You live in China? Otherwise what media censorship are you referring to? And people don’t have a choice? They obviously do if they choose to not “know what is going on outside the comfort of their homes” as you said. Anyone who was interested during events prior to OWS had the ability to find the information from various sources. Get out with this “the info wasn’t available but now they can’t avoid it” bull.

Put it this way. Politics is creating more nuclear waste than it is stoppping.

Currently we are wasting massive amounts of uranium in nuclear fuel rods. In a typical fuel rod it loses fission efficiency after about 7-8% of the usable uranium is consumed. Now in nearly every other country in the world you would send these spent rods to be reprocessed, but here we are bound by a treaty that President Clinton signed with North Korea (one which a certain leader has already violated) that prevents us from doing so because it would produce weapons grade materials during the purification process. So instead we throw rods with 93% of the material still usable in giant cans of 6M nitric acid and argue over where to bury them. The resulting “soup” is highly radioactive and contains many elements which are chemically hazardous. Now purification does produce some waste, but generally the elements produced are actually less problematic chemically to deal with.

The funny thing is we have fully function nuclear power plants that are shut down or running at half efficiency right now because of the political situation. Nuclear power is perfectly viable and actually the research to help with the waste is more realistic on a short term basis than most alternatives and overall is the cleanest in terms of emissions.

But we artificially bind ourselves into problems that shouldn’t exist. Not to mention you mention the word “Nuclear” and all of a sudden people freak out. They had to rename NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) to MRI for medical use because the word nuclear caused people to freak out even though it has nothing to do with radiation of that sort.

sigh the problem with being educated in this stuff is you just realize how much politics mucks with science and how the truth is usually blurred .

That when people come together to protest it scares the people in power. So much so that 18 mayors from different cities had a discussion about how they were going to deal with the protestors. So much that contributions were made to police pensions (which had previously been cut) in order to give them incentives to continue to follow their orders. So much so that there are bills in congress right now trying to censor social media (youtube, facebook, twitter, streaming websites), and bills that would allow the government to remove and detain US citizens without a trial if they are seen as a “threat”.

That we’re not alone in our sentiments towards our situation as a nation and as a world. Because it wasn’t just Wall Street. It is thousands of cities across the US, and over 80 countries in the world. People coming together and discussing things, sharing information, organizing.

Go ahead call it bull, say big whoop and go on with your life. Write me off, write the whole thing off it’ll still be around. In fact I’d wager that it will be around long enough for most people with sentiments like your own to come around. Never has there been potential like this to make things better, to evolve as people. Never had we had as many tools or has the world been so small (thanks internet).

The stuff about how some place in Norway or maybe Finland ( I think it actually might be copenhagen) was going to power like 40 percent of their grid (I am making that up) with the waves was amazing.

I read about it in time magazine. They were going ham on the green tech. Heat from garbage, all sorts of stuff being recylced, super clean water.

It’s kinda stupid that we aren’t greening the crap out of our cities to save tons of money and energy.

EDIT - http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,2026474_2026675_2079618,00.html Here it is. It’s Stockholm. They are going nuts.

Let me just reply back with the same tone with: That’s what you are but who am I?

I was aware with what was going on, yes, but am I more informed then before due to the OWS? Yes. Are other people? Yes. And that’s what I’m pointing to.

And I’ll say again, It doesn’t matter, because instead of this issue being put on the back burner for the masses, it’s forcing the masses to see what the fuck is going on and to actually get people to find out why the shit really hit the fan.

Wow, you must be real mad to have taken my question as some kind of insult to write a paragraph like this. Or just stupid as hell to buy into the idea that OWS not only came up with these ideas, but that they’re the reason knowledge about it exists in the first place. I’m gonna go with both. You’re mad stupid. Did OWS find out about these mayoral meetings and alert the papers? Did they reveal those contributions to police pensions? If not, then they didn’t expose shit, did they? You claiming those bills are being written as a direct result of this is hilarious, by the way.

The only thing I’ve called bull is the notion I just mentioned above. And you don’t know anything about my sentiment on the matter of OWS, because I have yet to say anything regarding OWS themselves. Keep pulling these kinds of responses out of your ass, though.

Good one.

It’s not forcing anyone to do anything, idiot. It’s not going up to them and holding their head to a table telling them to look at a picture of corruption. If people chose to ignore anything about corruption before OWS, how are they going to be forced to give a shit about it now? You know what I can do? I can turn off my TV, radio, and internet, and go outside, and not be exposed to anything about OWS (much less your analysis of it), and not have to look over my shoulder to see if the dreadful knowledge of corruption is following me behind the bushes. People who don’t want to get invovled have every ability to ignore it.

There is some benefit in some of the green energy ideas. We just need ideas that are both economically viable and physically reasonable.

Nope not mad. Stupid maybe for responding to obvious trolling.

And read my post again smarty arty I never said that it was a direct result. Stop derailing my posts and putting words in my mouth.

Also troll harder.

Topic title killed any chance for intelligent discussion. OPs mind was already closed.

I think intelligent discussion requires mutual respect of both individuals whether their stances are the same or conflicting.

That’s why it is rare online, because people are immature and ignorant. And if that’s not how they really are, it’s fashionable to be that way online, and much easier.

It’s easy to be a jerk when the other person isn’t close enough to punch

Its easy to be a jerk and resort to violence because someone says something you disagree with / don’t like.

It’s hard to shut your mouth and walk away. More people should do that, and I’m not only talking about unintentionally feeding trolls.
