Selectable super/ultras

I don’t see them having selectable supers seeing as most characters’ super suck and it’s almost always better off using ex/fadc.

Alpha Style

What about having all three available without needing to pick one over another, Alpha style. That would be pretty cool I think.

SA2 gets picked more.

SA1 gets picked more

SA2 gets picked more

SA1 gets picked more

SA2 gets picked more

I’ll give you Remy and Hugo because the super choice depends on how you want to play more than anything else.

Lol, everyone still has nightmares of Alpha 2 Rose and Genei Jin.

I think Rose should be the only character with a custom combo, and it should do 25% chip damage and only cost one EX.

Well obviously it’s not EXACTLY split down the middle. I think Slinkum’s point was that there were several characters in 3S that had more than one viable option for super, and it’s not a stretch to think that Capcom could come up with more. Heck, if we told you 5 years ago that there was going to be a SFIV, how many people would have thought the game would be out for as long as it has and STILL have just about every character be viable in a tourney? Not many.

how about just each characters have 2 ultras just like Gen. I see Gen players use both ultra.

Vega should have a fry, then throw ultra, the other one is just suck. Maybe Ryu can get a hurricade kick ultra.

Not three (that would be too many IMO) but I would support the idea of having two supers available to the player at a time.

lets not have 3rd strike again.

Since SFIV has supers and ultras, if they did decide to add a selection, I think it should just be between two sets, SA1 and SA2, where SA1 is a shoryu and it’s ultra is a super shoryu, and SA2 is a hado and it’s ultra is a super hado.

As long as they don’t make one far more godly than the other, I don’t see too much of a problem with it. Certainly one will get picked more than another. However, I think it will allow a little more depth to the characters… Maybe they can target one super to help in a character’s bad match up, so they’ll be more inclined to use it in that situation. It certainly wouldn’t break the match up, since super meter isn’t as easy to gain as in 3s (where whiffing normals built too much meter).

Aw well…

If they don’t add selectable supers, no big deal. I just think it wouldn’t hurt, so long as they didn’t shit on em…

I never really got into 3s much but if they do selectable supers RIGHT then you would have things like Shinkuu players and Denjin players that 3s has for Ryu. Though given the track record with SF3 capcom isn’t too great at doing it

Makoto, Dudley, Yang, Ryu, Elena, Remy, Q, Hugo, and Sean all have more than one viable Super in 3S (even if one is chosen more often). So that’s about half of the cast. It all depends on how much work it takes to make a Super/Ultra that determines if it’s worth making a bunch that no one will use.

Supers in 3S mostly just reused animations from normals and specials; it didn’t require too much extra work. Ultras in SF4 are all unique and have a lot of work, but Supers seem to require much less work. Honda’s is very simple, for example, and probably took the devs all of 3 minutes to make.

So I’d be in favour of selectable Supers. They shouldn’t take too much work to make, and since some characters virtually never use a super anyway it could add some incentive to saving that meter.

They should have alternate versions of CHARACTERS to choose from, not supers.

I want something like the Slash/Bust system of SS4 if we’re gonna go into wishlist mode.

If that was his point then he should have just kept quiet in the first place. I never said characters had only one good super but that people generally picked one over the rest.

The people saying ‘everyone in 3S always picks the same super anyways’ are idiots. They’ve clearly never played/played against Makoto, Dudley, Ryu, Yang…pretty much every character other than Ken/yun/chun. In the case of those 3, the unanimous super choice mostly comes down to poor design, and is one of the contributing factos in those characters being so top tier. Why would yun pick ANYTHING other than geneijin? Why would chun choose an AA super that does ~10% when she could punish virtually anything on reaction, from 3/4 of the screen away, for 40% damage and a deadly mixup afterward? Its not the concept of multiple super at fault here, its the designers ignorant to the fact that they made one godlike super and 2 poor ones.

It would add more diversity, make the game more fun, and help with bad matchups, providing characters were given supers/ultras with varrying purposes. The biggest speed bump here would be that super bars varried in size in 3s, and they dont’ in sf4. Changing bar sizes and stock quantity would be difficult considering the importance of EX and FADC in SF4.

The only other flaw I can see is I already need to pick a character alternate/original costume, color, taunt, and adding super + ultra decisions to that would make for by far the loooongest character selction process of any fighting game ever. But thats really just venial…

you’re right lets just stick with having superT-3D like we do now :lame:

By your logic we should take everyone other than Sagat out of the game because he gets picked more often.

You’re a terrible, terrible person.

Personally, I like having all 3 supers available to me in-game, like in the Alpha and CvS series.

Having selectable supers/ultras would certainly go a long way to spicing this game up.

for a character like ryu it would make no difference. he couldnt possibly have a better super or ultra.

As for 3S super arts. some characters have options, but those are characters you never see win tournaments. As for the top tier (chun, yun, ken) they all have one SA that is blatantly better than their other choices. it’s not like you’ll see a bunch of yun’s not using genei jin.
