Okay taunt is R2 when you’re not in Heat mode
R2 Rage mode requires Heat not the red circle thing
You can overeat and there’s 3 things under your Heat gauge that light up when you eat?
Kiryu has a new heat when the opponent is face down on the ground grating the face on the pavement lol
R2 when you have I guess weapons that you could buy? let’s you pocket them lol
Can’t find a bar
R2 mode
Changes Kiryu attacks, dash and throw changes and opponent’s attacks bounce off him
Regular ground Heat and terrain heats
Some old abilities you get after level up like ground grab, 2 hit finishers, the throwing an enemy on a downed enemy Heat attack, the ninja card lady Heat, throw break Heat, the enemy rising Heat attack, Komaki Tombstone when you grab an enemy near a waist high object
NEW
You can grab and throw into the wall with throw again and they’ll lay on the wall dazed for a few seconds.
I need to try that, I used the bike but while the dude was on the ground. And damn at that pavement face wipe heat action, most brutal one yet. I was so impressed by the changes I had the urge to import it, but since this game is the biggest one yet…I’d really spoil the experience. Sega has to at least say something about the west once this game officially drops in Japan. Some people are skeptical about Sega giving us Yakuza 5 when dead souls was a dud. TBH I think Sega knows deep down DS wasn’t something fans wanted. I’m sure we will get Yakuza 5, I mean we did get 4 games up till now.
Eh even though the voting ended, so long you gave your vote it shows there are Yakuza fans out there that wanna see Kiryu drift overtake Sonic and friends.
Ah wells, now to wait for Y5 and the HD collection’s English release.
So in the demo I noticed Kazuma’s drop kick has been modified. He now bounces off the opponent in the air like Vanquish lol. I also got into a fight where an enemy called for backup via cellphone. Something tells me this was in Y4 but I could be wrong. My biggest blunder was not knowing the Komaki Tiger drop was in the demo, the timing seems more strict but it kills enemies in one hit.
There is a video player to watch all the scenes from 1 & 2 in both games. Can’t help but spoiler a few things then.
1 & 2 are dated but there are some good set pieces IE: the funeral, purgatory’s entrance that makes sense thru komaki’s homeless compound, the several story bath house thing. Its name escapes me right now, but you don’t go in there anymore in the future games. The Giant Gold Temple was kinda silly in how it appeared, but they joke about that as you start #3. There’s also 2 more cities to run around in #2. It had a darker/metal soundtrack too. Owning a host bar or being a host were both longer, full featured minigames available.
Fun characters like Kazuma’s equal in the Dragon of Kansai, & really worth it
****SPOILER **
**
the “Manly Shirtless Finale” with your orphanage brother Nishiki
Police lady “Yakuza Killer?” who you get to do team up HEAT attacks with. Which she will kinda offhand scold you hilariously in the later games with a text (denoting a gift item for completion) if you date all the other women available.

And of course the first of the annual, blow up the top floor of the what’s it building. Millenium Tower.
Yakuza 5 will probably be the GOTY for me. There are some potentially great games coming out this year, but I don’t think they’ll be nearly as good as Yakuza 5.
Yeah, easily. 3 and 4 both re-cap the events with lengthy videos to fill you in on most of what happened in previous entries in the series. 3 and 4 are both awesome, but if you got the money, you might as well grab 1 and 2 as well. They were late-gen PS2 games and hold up really well, they’re just as good as the newest entries in the series if not better. 2’s one of my personal favorites, I like it just as much if not more than 3 and 4.
Currently playing 4, Dead Souls is on deck. First Yakuza game for me was 3, and that was awesome. I got half way through 4 when it was new, but for some reason stopped playing it and sold it. I gotta agree with some people, this series is great. I hope we do get 5 and the HD remakes!
@PatakaReada I think Y2 had a really limited release in the west. I actually had to buy it used, and the majority of the stores I went to near release didn’t have it. SRK got me into the series, I actually think it might have been @Sarangha who made the thread way back on release telling everyone to get “One of the last great PS2 games.”
I forgot who it was but most people don’t know that Yakuza 2 came to the west when PS3 was out. So I actually had to play it on my ps3 since I gave away my ps2 lol. The game supported progressive scan so it looked decent on the triple. Yakuza 2 definitely was one of the last great games on the PS2. I think the fact it came out when PS3 was out hurt any media coverage on the game. To make matters worse I had to buy the game at futureshop (owned by best buy here in Canada) since no gamestop/ebgames was selling it locally in my area which is weird. Yakuza 2 probably has one of the best final fights in the series. I also love their take on Osaka and I guess we will be returning there in Yakuza 5.
Y2 also had one of the best instrumental tracks in the entire series imho:

Y2 was the first game in the series to switch to JP dub.Smart move since Yakuza 1 english dub was a disaster. Sure they had Mark Hamill as Majima and other talents but you really need genuine JP VA for “Yakuza”…I still lol @ Nishiki’s one line “Bring Dat Shit Kazuma!” hilarious!
