I believe in Nagoshi-sama, I believe in a 2013 Engish release for Yakuza 5 & 1+2 HD collection.

For some reason Yakuza 1 & especially 2 seem so recent to me I don’t know if I will cop the HD collections. Yakuza 5 being released in 2013 is actually more than realistic since they had a good track record with Dead Souls.

I’ll hope for the best on a release date too. But to get it before the Anarchy Reigns guys get their game, would be a shame. Outsourced to Platinum, but still. Sega of America kinda dropped the ball there. Hope it doesn’t hurt sales as such.

Yeah I agree the AR fiasco was messed up, but something tells me Yakuza is on their priority list they talked about when it comes to financial backing.

So I’m replaying Yakuza 3 because I’m bored. I forgot the chase battles on Extra Hard are retarded as hell. I have to redo Chapter 8 all over again because I failed to chase down the triad officer.

Yeah I had the same problem in extra hard. I remember reading the transition from map to battle in Yakuza 5 will be seamless so I hope that is the case with the chase scenes as well.

Sigh why I gotta be the one to tell ya’all this?

Haruka Dance Battle hype!

This game is the sole reason I still own a PS3.

Lol was that VF2 in the first trailer at the end?

Yup it will be fully playable, PS3 is going out with a bang!

EDIT: It still bothers me at the lack of PS3 owners interested in this game. This game is no ordinary sandbox game, this trailer hopefully will sway people.

It’s a shame that the Yakuza games don’t get popular over here in NA, but the fact is there isn’t a whole lot of overseas marketing done by Sega, and frankly a lot of gamers prefer English dialogue over subs because they’re either too close-minded or can’t be bothered to read.

And also Japanese melodrama might not be for everyone.

It really needs to be marketed as an RPG, because that’s what it is.

Top dollar studio, pride of Japan. Talents second to none on their development team.

Sorta crazy or by the book storylines sometimes, random battles every few steps - that you can avoid like the better streamlined RPG’s, sidequests that will impede your path from how many distractions you get, even during important time based plot points, leveling up and gaining skills - buying/finding/earning new gear, minigames - Golf Fishing Gambling, Underground Fighting Arena being a game within itself now after so many iterations, collecting locker keys if you want to explore every nook and cranny, etc.

Made jokes elsewhere about do you want to be a bleached blonde Peter Pan syndrome Gackt looking J-pop star again for the 100th time, or would you rather be a mafia boss, man among men able to handle everything life can dish out, without ever whining about it? You’re Playing a Role in a Game. And it is very Japanese. “J-RPG”

Open world? No, not with a map and set areas you’re always in. But you’re free to quickly jump around to a new area with easy to use painless transportation, again like better RPGs where you can jump quickly between planets or something, via Savepoints (Ex: Level 5’s Rogue Galaxy).

This Yakuza 5 is the most important ambitious yet, the hunting and Taxi driving turned out MUCH better than I anticipated. Nothing else to say…dat waiting game.

Could someone tell me in depth how Yakuza fighting system works? Also would it work for four cooperative (and competing) other players at once online and offline?

The Yakuza fighting system is Dynamite Cop but on steroids. This isn’t Bayonetta and for the most part it is just for fun. You can pick up random objects on the street and use them vs enemies. The more you attack or taunt your enemies the more your heat guage fills up. To a point where you can unleash a heat attack. You can also grab enemies and do special moves against most surfaces in the game. In Yakuza 4 and 5 you can use four different characters with a variety of fighting styles. Each character has 100 plus moves but they are just varied strings. The button scheme is like Virtua Fighter 3 with Punch,Kick,Guard and Evade.

Yakuza is a sandbox game with more in common in Shenmue than GTA. The story is actually good and it doesn’t hurt that a famous Japanese crime novelist is the writer. There a truckload of minigames in each Yakuza but Yakuza 5 is said to have 100+. This is including a full arcade perfect port of Virtua Fighter 2. Unlike Sleeping Dogs the minigames are actually good and this is probably because old AM2 heads are behind it. The platinum trophy for every Yakuza game in the main franchise takes 90+ hours since there is so much to do. Shogi,Mahjong and darts are probably the hardest minigames to master. I would say the greatest appeal of Yakuza is how authentic it is when replicating the famous cities of Japan. This is coming from people who have actually been there. Yakuza 5 is said to also have 5 cities this time.

Yakuza is probably one of Sony’s best exclusive franchises and it is a shame more people don’t talk about it. I think a lot of RPG heads would like the game since you can level up Kazuma’s attributes, weapons, gear and do over 100 sidequests in each game. There really is something for everyone in this franchise, and everygame has a 30+min cinematic to catch you up with the story. Beat Yakuza 4 and if you still don’t like it then it isn’t for you.

(As far as multiplayer I hope Yakuza stays away from that, unless it is in the minigames which I think would be a good idea. The game could definately support multiple people battling each other or co-op but this isn’t the place for that.)

2 Player Co-Op Underground Battle Arena could’ve been okay, or actually great if you’re fighting alongside Majima.

Which you could do with that DLC code thing for Yakuza 3, which my brother didn’t redeem on his PS3 and it even had an expiration date on the code, missed it by a month. BAD SEGA(AMERICA)! Also was said to have 2 player on Pool, Darts, one more. But nobody seems to have ever talked about that either.

There’s some Tekken and WWF No Mercy in there too with Combo flowing, Taunts, Grabs* & wakeup from knockdown attacks like a low sweep. [details=Spoiler] * (Streets of Rage style to choose to punch kick or throw from there, wrestling style to walk them around the area for contextual environment “heat action” super move complete with cinematic, Suplex on a bench, Fireman slam thru a sushi display, and oh man that big spin by the legs + low wall on a guys head once in youtube for Yakuza 2 some good examples among many more - old games had specific to an areaHeat Actions which you could sadly miss. Bar fight heat action I never saw kind of a regret back there.

Weapons all have their own heat actions too. Checkout the youtube collections of those for a taste, definitely enjoyable like that Computer monitor stuffed on the head and slapping it until it spun around.
[/details] Virtua Fighter / Shenmue as well with blocking, dodging, and Komaki Parrying. But not as much stuffing attacks that have canned animations, damn those invincible dropkicks.

PSP, just having tried the demo of Black Panther 1, was interesting with the fighting styles. More in fighting boxing, still allowed picking up weapons on the street. But set it up slightly over the shoulder view and 2D plane nearly. So doing different Directions + Punch or Kick modified your moves. And he had a choice of 3-4 fighting styles to have equipped, just the 1 group at a time-not per move or anything. You earned the 4th after leveling up the starting 3 to at least 1-2 levels. Differentiating like a wrestling style from boxing, or another with better kicks. Moves could even get better once you did that, animating faster or being stronger. I do wonder if they can add some of those versions’ ideas to Yakuza 5 here.
