yeah that one, i think it has better design than purple city and baja blast
Thatās just the lighting on the photo, those are definitely more yellow in person.
Bringing back the Sega appreciation thread!
Not sure if this truly belongs here, but my work does involve Sega arcade panels, so here it goes.
Been planning these for a while (see my post above from 9 months ago); but regular life got in the way and I just didnāt have time to get cracking on these until recently.
Barebones case:
Front:
Back:
With a panel in place:
I actually made three of these for myself, as an experiment. Experimented with single- and two-player setups, weāll see how that goes.
Thereās a couple of things I probably still need to work out in my routing at this point in time. All the routing was done with templates, so this can be replicated pretty easily. I had some screw-ups with the routing of the Neutrik holes, but I think I have it down after 5 trials.
Obviously, the sheet of MDF I needed to buy could accommodate for many more, which I hope to be able to crank out more of these for people in the springtime if thereās interest.
Simple and effective. Good jarb.
@FreedomGundamā awesome work manā¦ definitely would be interested in one when you crank them out. any ideas how you are gonna price them? options for paint?
@jonyfrazeā
Thanks. Iām not sure about any details yet; I figure Iād hammer those out after I get my first trial models done.
I know for my own, at least, Iām gonna āpaintā them up with Plasti-Dip as a trial and see how that goes. My biggest problem in terms of the build/finish is that I donāt have necessarily the most convenient facilities for painting overall; these are actually being built at my parentsā house (they live less than 5 minutes away, but still). My biggest problem overall mainly affects potential distribution: Iām located in Montreal (Canada), and Canada Post hasnāt exactly been the best in terms of prices, especially to locations outside of Canada.
All this will get fleshed out as I complete these three, I guess.
Still need to buy some sheets of 1/8" ABS for the bottom panel (the 8āx4ā sheet that I bought back in the summer of 2011 when I started building Japanese-style arcade sticks has pretty much been depleted).
STILL want one FreedomGundam
Finally! Someoneās gone and made cases for these panels.
Iām interested in one unpainted, how much?
Hereās my setup. Stock everything at the moment. Iām not too worried about the buttons. Street Fighter plays like butter on this stick. Right now Iām trying to find a library of movestrips, but there does not seem to be a definitive resource for this. Sad reallyā¦
Flagging this for pornography.
Playing the best Street Fighter game on it, too - as God intended.
A little update on my Sega-panel cases.
My first experiment is underway. Itās far from well done (itās neither āwellā, nor ādoneā, for all that matter); Iām still waiting for some parts to come in the mail.
This one is supposed to be for a 2L12B panel (and not the 1L6B installed in the picture), but I didnāt have a populated 2L12B panel on-hand.
Still waiting for some parts (threaded inserts, rubber feet, etc) and components (buttons and Neutriks); also need to go pick up some more 1/8" ABS sheets for the bottom panel. This one was āpaintedā with white Plasti-Dip; Iām not too fond of the final feel (even my wife said it felt āweirdā), but it was an experiment nonetheless. Still usable. I have another casing thatās been painted with white paint, waiting for the paint to cure at the moment before I clear-coat.
Trying to get all my spraying done in the next week or so; the weatherās getting worse in my neck of the woods these days.
Looks good man! If I was good with wood working Iād give it a shotā¦ but Iām not, so Iāll leave it up to the pros This looks much more affordable than the boardmaster or Virtua Stick Pro.
Do you plan on making any more? I would be interested in buying one from you if you did.
Thanks for the kind words.
I actually have enough materials to build like a dozen of these or more, actually.
I only started off with my initial three as tests to experiment on building and finishing techniques. I have another 2 kinda half-done as an experiment in building speed/time. The only catch is that since winter is here, other than the original 3, I donāt think that Iāll be able to do any work on them (or any new ones, for all that matter) until spring hits. But Iāll definitely be making more of these.
To that end, Iām kinda amazed nobody has produced a modern clone of the Sega HSS-0130 for taking, say, a pair of PS360+ and generic Blast/Astro/Universal/Net panels. A Lindbergh version would be pretty awesome too.
How I am debating on getting one. That case looks so well done if I didnāt know better I though it was a retail product.
Awesome, Keep me posted. Iād love to perhaps build a super gun into one of these for a more faithful boardmaster replacement

From what I recall, Jasenās working on a Lindy panel enclosure. similar to the HSS-0130. I saw something in the works from Foehammer as well.

The tricky part is that there really isnāt very much room on the inside; part of the goal of these builds was also to keep the formfactor very slim. Then again, weāve all stuck multiple PCBs and whatnot into tiny little cases and crevices, so anythingās possible. Weāll talk about this when it comes to time for me to get back to my builds.

I was thinking about doing that. I have recently started some preliminary plans to try to build, by hand, like you said, a modern clone of an HSS-0130 (at least in functionality) out of ABS plastic, with all the standard stuff of sticks nowadays (PCB mounts, Neutrik mounts, etc). Iād like also to keep in mind any details and requirements for reproduction as well. Sadly, this probably wonāt see any light of day until at least a good year from now or so, if not more. Too many projects, not enough time.
