They look almost the same from the inside
I’ll post pics tonight too, sorry I’ve been swamped at work.
BTW V4MPIRO on these boards bought 2 x controllers at about $20 a pop off eBay and he put it up in the B/S/T forum for $70 shipped -_-
I didn’t know about the eBay auctions at the time so I took the chance and bought it. I know better now. I can’t hate on anyone trying to hustle and make $$$, but that is dirty to do to an SRK member…
Here are pictures of the official PCB on a PS2 DarkStalkers Collection Saturn controller:

For larger resolution click here.
Compare with the PCB on the same controller I received(I didn’t take pictures because they were identical to the ones posted earlier):

Thank you DevilsFang! (for the heads up on both)…
As you can see on the PCB of the PS2 controller (released the same time as the other PS2 controllers and PC/Mac USB Sega controllers), there is no SEGA logo either. The PCB looks almost identical, I can’t tell if it is legit. But the important thing is, the controller feels/works like a legit one. I’m using them side by side and if I close my eyes I can’t tell the difference. For all I care I’m going to call these official controllers unless someone can come up with some kind of proof. The packaging is identical as well.
As far as the shoulder button goes. The clicks sound a bit different. I checked the switch that activates them and while they are exactly the same constructionwise, for some reason they make a different noise (but on my PS2 controller the click on the L button sounds different compared to the R button… lol).
Anywho, if you haven’t gotten one yet, go get it. It gets my seal of approval.
If you’re interested in one, get em before the price goes up?

I shot an email to SLS to ask about the legitamacy just in case, haven’t heard back from them yet.
I already ordered 4 off ebay (paid almost the same price for 4 that I could have for one -_- )
WHY SRK WHY!
Signed,
Honest, hardworking MarkMan…
Dude that’s Brutal…
 to whoever pulls that nonsense to someone of his own community.
Can someone post up pics of the chip on that thing?
I’ll try to take bigger pictures in a bit…
My camera won’t focus on something so small. But the numbers on the IC are:
CY7C63743-
SC 0423
A 02
630279
It also has a picture of a tree blowing in the wind on it. lol
Yeah, I’m surprised, Vampiro’s a pretty active member.
Yeah, that’s the Cypress logo. CY7C637 microcontroller. Thanks for checking for me.
Would this be confirmation that they are not official controllers?
I was told via PM that the one I was receiving was not a bootleg !
No, not at all. The fact that they use a microcontroller doesn’t say one way or another about it being bootleg or original. You’re just going to have to find someone with a legit Sega USB pad and convince them to crack it open.
Thanks for the quick reply. I know just who I need to contact…
Since these are popping up more and more on EBay it seems I would assume these are all knock-offs. I mean considering how long ago these were made, I doubt someone just happened to find a bunch of new ones, especially since there is more than one seller selling them.
If they are knock offs (which is what I’m leaning towards as well), these are some really damn good ones. I can’t tell the difference between an official one and these recent ones via gameplay/feel.
Keep checking the ncsx.com news section. I sent an e-mail to them asking about whether they knew if sega was reproducing these. The e-mail response was that sega hasn’t shipped any new supplies since 2005. They are pretty curious about these controllers since the sellers on ebay are selling them at below wholesale cost for official pads. Also they are going to buy one from ebay and check for themselves.
I ordered a pair of controllers, but I don’t have an official usb one. All i can compare them to are the ps2 and white sega saturn controllers.
I already have a Saturn USB pad (released with Puyo Puyo in Japan) but I’m tempted to get one of these just for the hell of it. No doubt they’re most likely fakes, but who cares. I have a fake 4GB micro SD card and it’s never done me wrong.
Really wish they would work with the 360 though.
There are some differences in the board, but the only ones I see are how components are labelled and the additional info in the upper rightish area. I could actually argue about how some of the minor changes in the ebay pad are better than NotANoob’s controller. Electronically, they’re identical. If you like the way the ebay pad feels to play on, there should be NO shame in owning one.
NotANoob’s controller is labeled ISS-5001.
The pad I got from eBay is labeled ISS-5001-01.
Maybe this indicates the board revision. The markings on the inside of the case, the rubber/foam pads glued to the triggers, and the Sega stamp on the USB plug are all exactly the same. Even the IC is the same, this is good enough for me.
Wherever they got them, I hope they found a bunch of them:rock:
Yes… I’m happy with my purchase/purchases.
NotANoob81, thanks for posting!
