It’s probably just a pc controller that happens to be compatible with the PS3.
The button mapping on my controller (not the one in discussion, just one that I happen to own) was a little messed up. X was circle and Square was triangle, and vice versa. Other than that, everything was fine.
I have both in my hands and if I close my eyes I can’t tell the difference. I’ll open them up and take a look at them under the scope while at work tomorrow.
For the record, considering MARKMAN of all people says it feels the same as the original, does it even matter if it’s a ripoff? Sounds excellent to me!
But MarkMan bought his off someone on SRK, not from EBay. So he probably does have the real thing. We don’t really know yet what we are getting but we will soon find out.
And here is a pic of my hacked original Saturn pad.
The eBay pads have no Sega markings on the PCB and the triggers have a little rubber pads that strike the microswitch where as the original pads do not.
Overall it’s a good controller, I can’t say for sure if it is a knockoff. It is very hard to tell the difference between the two. The only give away is that the rubber pads deaden the clicking sound of the triggers microswitchs.
