I think the person in question was replaced prior to New Avengers. Because they are talking about Elektra’s swap and at that point in the scene shown in NA #40 it’s already past Enemy of the State, which took place before New Avengers.

Yeah it’s just for me the story is kind of tight, meaning it’s easier to swap Spider-Woman during all of those years when she was out of circulation. With Elektra, I can see her being swapped just after she got control of the Hand (not too sure about what the ‘last cycle’ means) because that’s when she had the most power. Spider-Woman kind of always had those Hydra and S.H.I.E.L.D. ties (I mean when Viper / Madame Hydra took over Madripoor Jessica Drew was one of her right hand women for crying out loud) so just about any point would seem conveniant, unless they wanted to use her after she joined the New Avengers… Ah guess we have to keep reading… :looney:

I don’t know why i didn’t think of it but i remember Bendis saying that some of the Skrull swaps occurred during the New Avengers time in the Savage Land. So MAYBE she got switched their and the Skrull figured out her triple agent status.

So the pics on the screen at the end of NA#40 anyone notice the guy with the glasses looks very much similar to a certain mutant.

Edit: quick question - I haven’t read that new avengers for a while when they were in the savage land, but I do remember it showing everyone most of the time, how would’ve the Skrulls done the switch?
Well between their plane exploding when they landed in the Savage Land and amidst the chaos when the dinosaurs started attacking them. The only two people who were seperated was Luke and Jessica. Wolverine specifically said he didn’t notice those two scents when he attacked them both but then he brushed it off like the Savage Land messed up his scents. Wolverine possibly might have known something was up then.
Okay so my mind is going a mile a minute coming up with theories on when Spiderwoman was replace but then something hit me what if the Skrull Queen went to replace SW, but SW figured out the plan and killed her. Then, SW makes the Skrulls think she’s their Queen, and continues to act suspicious to gain their trust. Secret Invasion builds up to the very end, where SW is supposed to reveal herself as the Queen and pull the metaphorical trigger but OH SHIT – Spider-Woman actually turns out to be Spider-Woman and the Skrulls are screwed. Jessica Drew - Triple Agent.
And seriously after her conversation with Fury on the skrulls that would be a hell of an ending to Secret Invasion if that theory holds true somewhat.

I’m pretty sure she swapped just before New Avengers started. The clues are all over the first 6 issues of NA, especially the way she kept referring to Daredevil as Matt Murdock(I always thought that was really shady and very un-superhero like) and the way that ‘Black Widow’ was referring to who she was working with and the whole ‘Nothing but costumes’ line.
EDIT: I do like Kusanagi’s theory though. I hope that comes about.

I was thinking last night that Dr. Strange may infact be a skrull.
Remember during the Avengers Disassembled storyline. He said that there isn’t a thing such as Chaos magic. We all know that is false.
Dr. Strange is a skrull.
Dr. Strange probably left like 40 years ago continuity wise and has been fighting horrible magical wars ensuring the world has still been existing this entire time.
It’d be hella easy to just take a skrull and replace a character who is never there and no one really knows the powers of.
That is why Doc Strange joined the Avengers, that can be the only explanation of someone of his power status ( aka the protector of the entire magical realm on earth and many other dimensions ) running about fighting ninjas.
I doubt he’s a skrull, simply because then you’d have two skrulls in the Illuminati.
And I wouldn’t say that him joining the Avengers makes him a skrull. Granted, it’s a demotion from saving the world from Mephisto every week, but this is Bendis. He takes liberties with the characters.
