Season's Beatings III - RESULTS!

Well fugee is a great tournament organizer and i’m sure that shit won’t happen again on his watch. I’m glad to see fugee step up and fix the problem within 10 minutes! That’s some top tier shit right there sir! All props to fugee! I wonder if marn even cares if he is banned from dustloop. I’m going to talk to some people that was there to get the WHOLE story 1st before I think about banning him from future final rounds! I want to hear it from marn himself. Just to hear all sides of the story.:wonder:

That’s some fucked up shit if I ever heard it for a major tournament to be cancelled in the middle of the tournament due to one person leaving the brackets in shambles!:lame::lame::bluu::tdown:

good job eric!

Great job Brent!

I posted up what Marn said happened here.

Aside from the shit that went down at SB3 he has fucked up majorly at both of the last Evos he attended. At 2k7 there was the whole issue with GG Finals, and at 2k6 he volunteered to run the GG singles side tournament but then did nothing to start it. When approached about it there he said that he wanted to play casuals instead, putting all of the responsibility on Veteru and I believe some others who had to run it themselves last second.

gg gg

fuckin 2nd IS THE NEW FIRST
yall got fooled

So was that like ownage or just a bad day…

Way to go, immortal! Can’t wait to see vids of your “torikago” (“caged bird,” a term that zass introduced me to in terms of claw’s poking in the corner) rendition of claw.

And if ramza really did so well in ST, then awesome work, it sounds like you’ve really upped your game and will be a force to go against next week.

GG’s to ghibli, Trix, Tech, and DJ. It was cool meetin ya’ll and Fugee you ran a good tournament. Its just messed up that the GG bullshit had to happen.

Naw, he would have had to give them their money back plain and simple if he wants to keep people interested in his events. There were people there just for GG and nothing else. Probably should have gotten their venue fee back as well.

Ghaleon and everyone else handled their respective brackets quite well. Too bad the same was not done for GG.

wish i was there. sounds like a godlike event all around.

Shoutouts to all I kicked it with this weekend. You know who you all are.

I feel for those of you who came from mad far away to play GG, just to have the tourney canceled.:annoy:

That’s some straight up bullshit yo.

GGs to the following people in 3S and GG:

JiBBo (YeahDood Ayumi stick assist ftw!)
DevilJin
Marlin
Simon
Actionhank
Kyle G
Common Sense
HunterSFL

…as well as anyone else I might have forgot. Everybody (except for me) had their A-game going. I’ll do my best to get my crew playing more 3S so I won’t play like a scared bitch next time.

For GG, I mean who really thought marn was a good idea to run a big tournament? He’s pretty much the dumbest motherfucker alive, it’s like giving a retarded kid a parachute and driving them to a tall cliff and getting mad when you get hit with a lawsuit.

I’m going to do the props and the shout outs and the “this was the greatest” and all that jazz tomorrow. Tonight I’m going to touch on the bracket situation and why a balance is going to have to be struck to avoid serious problems in the future. I’m old school so I like having my brackets written down. I like having my entrants register and then the name goes on the back of the bracket or beside the bracket. Now the perk of having the pre-reg was so you’d know what regions were slotted where. In all honesty that’s all pre-reg should have been used for. When the pre-reg list was used as the bible (and it was on Saturday) then it causes major issues. Also, contrary to what Keits had to say about rank and region and all that junk, the brackets for 3rd Strike was a complete fuck up.

I’m going to say this now, I don’t blame Ghaleon. I blame the system involved.

Now then, when you’ve got an 83 person tournament, you’re using a 128 man bracket. That means you’re going to have 18 players play a first round match and everyone else gets a bye so the 64 player bracket on the winners side evens out after the first round. Also, despite having a ton of players, it’s really important to seed at least the top 16 players. It avoids heavy hitter players taking each other out early on while marginally skilled players don’t have a cakewalk through the winners bracket. Now I can’t speak for everyone but I can speak for Toronto.

  • AdamB and JS Master both had 1st round matches. If you know 3rd Strike then you know those two sure as hell shouldn’t have been playing in the first round.

  • Toronto won all of their first round matches and then 4 of the 7 of us were slotted to play each other. How in the blue hell does this happen? It’s an 83 person bracket. Third round would be a bitch but whatever. Fourth round is perfectly understandable. But second? REALLY?!

  • Ghaleon was very good to float the Toronto players after the conflict was brought to his attention. Again he was placed in a stressful situation and handled it very well. That being said, the flloat at least in my personal opinion was ridiculous. I went from playing DarkDragon (Toronto) to being floated into a second round match with Steve Harrison (rapist). Now here’s the kicker, by Ghaleon’s own admission, I was floated to Steve H because he had a bye. A SECOND ROUND BYE! Now go back to my first point about byes and realize how badly a fuck up this is. Further to the point, the float while a great idea in theory tends to backfire in execution. Instead of me playing DarkDragon in the second round, I got floated, he won a match and played… JS MASTER! In case you’re keeping track, that’s 3 Toronto players out of 7 that would have played in the same partition of the bracket in an 83 person setup. What the hell happened to this tournament maker region sorting option that people were raving about?

The pre-register system honestly needs to be overhauled or the program used needs a change. If you’re going to have players pre-registered and set a hard deadline then I think you should stick to it like EVO did. That way you make your bracket ahead of time, you can post them online and then players can see if they are playing anyone in their region. If they are then the bracket can be adjusted. If the players who do pre-register don’t show up (which in this case represents about 20%) the bracket can be re-constructed from the ground up because you would have the original bracket with players removed and byes accounted for. It’s a win/win situation and it saves the directors major headaches.

The Guilty Gear bracket… I’ll touch on tomorrow. That was a mess unto itself and not just for the one sided reasons listed on SRK. Marn has basically been hung out to dry and while he is deserving of a lot of grief it’s not completely his fault in some aspects. There’s always two sides.

Well put. Hopefully, someone will elaborate on why no one stepped into to take control of the brackets and get things back on track. Everything is being thrown on one person but it wasn’t one person that is responsible for organizing and running the event.
