a) is anyone ever gonna post full 3s results (even to top THREE for fucks sake!)
b) it sucks that toronto ppl played eachother (and trust me i sympathize, ive played way too many people i know 2nd round in a non-local) but dont cry a river when a good player doesnt get a bye, seriously, who gives a shit. if you’re gonna win a tournament, you gotta be prepared to be better than every player.

Everyone agrees that it was the fault of the players there for not stepping up and fixing the broken mess it was turning into, but the fact remains that Marn took the responsibility of running the event and threw it away without putting someone else in charge to watch/bet on marvel, while clearly not caring enough about the GG tournament to even stick around (I’m sure getting sent to losers had a part in this). Nobody is saying Marn was the only contributing factor to what happened, and the attendees should have seen this coming, but that doesn’t justify his mistakes in the slightest. A lot of people wasted a lot of time and money due to him and once again he has damaged the reputation of GG players, it’s the communities’ responsibility to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

I’m gonna chime in and agree that especially registration was a complete clusterfuck. Shit didn’t even get started til at LEAST after noon, and even then they were at a loss for what to do/how to handle things.

As far as Wong deciding to drop from ST after his loss, I think he just spread himself too thin. He entered pretty much every game there was, and I know there were points where, if I were him, I would’ve pulled his more fringe entries, just because of the constant demands on time.

Sucks that I had to drop out of the impromptu bowling tournament thrown, 'cause I know I’d’ve taken that (what does it say when dudes can’t get anyone to be against ya?). If I come back next year, I’m bringing my thumb patch kit and taking care of that so damage isn’t an issue. Lanes probably won’t see a drop of oil between now and then anyway, so I’m already locked in from the start.

Props to Keits and SaDo for allowing me use of their sticks after mine got fried by one of Sony’s turds. Also, props to poon for taking a look at the thing and making sure it wasn’t just my converter. Might be sending the thing up that way to get wired for single-system use.
Note: In the future, at these console tourneys, would it be possible to make sure modded systems don’t get used? I know I’m not the only one to have had their equpiment screwed up by a shady and/or modded console.

Also, look for vids of my All-Brawl match against JWong soon. May be some surprises in the series.

And for those on dustloop complaining that they stopped GG for Wong vs. Yipes, they stopped EVERYTHING for it. That was one of the main events, if not the main event, and dude with the mic had to call a couple times to hold up on tournaments in progress.

My thoughts on how SC4 was run…

Okay… we just got back after a 9 hour drive and I think I can honestly say this was the worst run event I have ever been to. I used to say EternalFighter and Jinmaster ran the worst events, but this was far worse. The Soulcalibur tournament had more registered players than Smash Bros, but for some reason why were completely neglected by the hosts. We were given absolutely zero casual stations, which of course means that people’s first (and only) battles of the day were tournament matches. And of course, with the late start, people were waiting forever to get their matches in. God forbid Smash is run on anything less than 8 TVs and SC4 is run on anything more than 2.

Not to mention, during the Justin Wong VS MCYipes match, the hosts refused to let us continue the SC4 tournament until the match was over. They forced DigimonEmperor to delay the tournament yet another hour right in the middle. This tournament is also evidence in why you never make the brackets in advance, unless pre-registration also requires pre-payment. A LARGE chunk of players who registered didn’t make it to the tournament, so there were byes and DQs flying around all over the place. Oofmatic got so many byes that he didn’t play his first match until Midnight! Not to mention, people were getting DQed because they were busy playing matches in tournaments for other games!

Meanwhile, the brackets were so confusing that the TOs were unable to keep it organized. I played people I shouldn’t have played and ended up in spots I shouldn’t have been. There were byes in the tournament that ranked higher than me, and I actually won a few of my matches! Some people who went out in two ranked higher than me because they got 6 or 7 byes in losers. Yes, I actually got a bye in winners bracket too… but according to the brackets, I lost to it. This event was run piss poor and I absolutely will not be coming back next year. It ran on way too long and I don’t believe ANYTHING should be judged by the results of this tournament.

Yes, RTD lost to WingZero, but he actually won his 2 out of 3 and they made him continue with a 3 out of 5 (when it should have only been 2 out of 3). Don’t get me wrong, WingZero is definately a good player, but there were extenuating circumstances that affected the results of this tournament. KDZ should have done great in this tournament, but when he lost his first match of the night, it was already 4AM! The same goes for RTD and many others. Very few people were actually playing at the top of their game this time around; long drives and waiting 6 hours for your first match WITHOUT CASUALS will take a lot of the wind out of you. I was raring the go in the morning, but the time I had my first match, I was ready to call it a night.

This event was a major waste of time and money. Tekken had casual stations up all day, and DR is a dead game. I can pretty much assure you that no serious Soulcalibur player will be attending SB4 next year. This was supposed to be a MAJOR event, and we were treated like second fiddle, when we had one of the highest turnouts of the weekend.
