I thought that the current season should be wrapped up in December because that’s what Deezo originally proposed. It’s also the same length (chronologically) as the first season–4 months or so. I’m more concerned with when to end season two, rather than when to start season 3. I actually think that 4 months might even be a little long for these things, but that’s better left to the organizer’s tastes.
Julian and I are both on the board for ST, so it’s not as though we’re trying to get the points reset just so our rankings can move up. At least, that’s how I view things. Perhaps I shouldn’t speak for Airthrow. I honestly don’t see how I could possibly move up any higher than I am right now in the ST rankings. There’s only one place to go, and that’s down. I can’t beat Julien if his life depended on it. When I took a set from him earlier this season, it was because he couldn’t block my cheese with CCC2’s input lag.
I do believe that with every point reset, it gives mid level players that might have been hesitant some extra incentive to attend and possibly make some noise. With the way the current ST landscape is here in Seattle, I feel that Mandel and Nate are starting to take shit seriously once more. Alex has also stepped up his game tremendously in the last 7 weeks or so. For those reasons and more, the current rankings are not really representative of the hierarchy in the ST scene.
Ending the season would not only draw this chapter to a close while adhering to the originally planned time line, it would help put this ugliness behind us. The very fact that I even have a point in Marvel is insulting to the caliber of play in the Seattle scene.
Wrapping up season two on either the first or second gathering of December would also allow for a gaming session or two where people just chill and hang out like we used to prior to March of this year. Kinda like what Deezo was talking about. I sort of miss those, since there would be multiple 4-men rotations of Marvel going on. I’d just jump from room to room and ‘Cody’ people. No homo.
I do concur that we should have a season leading into either Evo West or Worlds. Training for Evo was the sole purpose of season one–despite the low number of Seattlites that attended–and it should be the focus once more. Perhaps the time leading up to Evo Worlds should be broken up into two separate seasons.
Regarding the format though, I wanna say that I’m glad ST moved to a 2/3 with 3/5 GF format. While it’s not what’s published on evo2k.com, even Evo ultimately used that format. Tournaments run much faster, even though it’s just 3 matches that get trimmed down. Not sure why. Perhaps it’s because the champion of the winner’s bracket is more willing to wait on deck for a 2/3 match rather than meander about.
If CvS2 and Puzzle Fighter ever resume, whoever runs those might want to consider trimming down the number of games in a match. Those two game jack players for hella long (sometimes for over half an hour to an hour), and make running other tournaments a pain. We’d always finish what matches we could, making the brackets lopsided. Then ST and MvC2 would fight over who would get access to the players that just finished, causing even more delays.
