I suggested the $3 entry fee at the beginning of the thread. I’m down with that idea. I could also run any extra tourneys after ST and Marvel cool down, since I’m never on time for marvel. Still, if CVS2 goes down, I’d be willing to run/help run most events. Also, I would like to see Guilty Gear again. That was going for hours last time, and had the entire media room full. That was the best gathering I’ve seen for any game at Zach’s next to marvel and the time the PDX guys showed up for ST.
do you not know who mandel the death instructer is?? let me show you a video of him dueling another master.

His kung-fu is clearly superior, he even has the tight music in the back when he does battle.
I am all for Mandel running marvel. We need a strong black man putting everybody in their place. He may end up choking people out though.
phuck choking wat about the just one touch kill man iam more scared of that than a mere choking.
Yeah man that Wu Dang province shit is nothing to mess with. Those secret scrolls are too strong.
Just to let you guys know, if I run Marvel, I’m gonna run it the way Sean and Rat used to run tourneys a longtime ago back in the Southcenter days. Basically the way it goes is, you have your four seeds, and then after that, the people get to pick and choose where they end up. Naturally you wouldn’t wanna play Row, JMar, Cody, etc first round so in a sense the bracket seeds itself. Seeds sometimes get a first round bye, and a lot of people can play different people first round if they choose. Or if they’re suicidal or wanna prove themselves they can play the juggernauts first round.
Would people have a problem with that kind of system? I love that style of bracketing personally.
EDIT-I’m sure this is the way Frank was intending on running CvS2 as well.
That sounds cool, the majority of us aren’t that uptight about these tournaments so it shouldn’t be a problem. Yea CvS2!
before i finalize myself running CvS2, i have to check in with my boss to see if i can get off in time to run that tournament. So i’ll get back to you guys on that.
Whoa! Will this happen! CvS2… Cool i can get all the practice i need. sweet.
So around what time is CvS2 supposedly to start? I didn’t see it. I get off @ 11pm form work and it’s about a 20-30 minute drive.
Sorry for the late reply. With Marvel and ST both starting at 9, I guess CvS2 could start at 11. I just hope the CvS2 tourneys don’t last an eternity.
What time would be most convenient for everyone else?
I probably won’t be able to make it until around 9:30ish.
mandel for cvs2 you might have to take over for me 1/2 way through or so, cause i have a meeting to go to at 8am on saturday.
Season two’s not supposed to start until after Evo.
Some quick suggestions for whenever you guys wanna kick off season 2.
Make all matches 2/3, and the GF 3/5. We previously had WF and LF 3/5, and GF at 4/7. This was to adhere to EVO world’s standards, but none of the Evo regionals did this. Some of the Evo regionals even had single elim. The point is, it saves a little bit of time. To lose at a house tournament isn’t the end of the world, you can always play some casuals afterwards. It’s really not necessary to drag out the WF and LF.
Start the tournaments at a later time. Marvel started at 9PM last season only because one person was originally running all events. If you divide up the work between several people, you might as well start the tournaments at 10PM. Most people can make it there by that time. If they’re not there by 10PM, it’s their own fault. Shouldn’t have wasted so much time sitting at TGI Friday’s.
Having several people run seperate tournaments is a great thing. This makes everything better for the players. Having multiple events run concurrently (and wrapped up earlier) also ensures steady attendance for poker.
It should be noted that whomever volunteers to run tournaments probably won’t be able to participate in other tournaments. Scheduling can get retarded if an organizer has to go to another setup to play in a different tournament. When someone pledges to run an event, s/he must be there EVERY tournament of the season, and be willing to forfeit the opportunity to play in other events.
I’m also not sure if it’s really a good idea to run tournaments for 3+ games per night. Not only will the house be extra ripe, you’ve really only got 2 NTSC native screens. If you run VF or Tekken on the big screen, fine. But running ST/MvC2/CvS2 on the big screen will show noticeable lag. And if Marvel gets a decent turnout (which only happened twice last season), having only 1 screen could take forever.
I’m all for promoting multiple games. But perhaps tournaments between 9PM and 2AM should only focus on MvC2 and possibly ST. If you’re a fan of Garou, that’s cool. But perhaps you should only aim to break it out after the main tournaments have concluded. People should be able to try new things. But you shouldn’t sabotage the organized play of the majority simply to indoctrinate new players.
More when I sober up. Perhaps.
That first part may be a bit harsh. I would think that having multiple people helping run the tounament could compensate for someone to play 1 match in another event. Only if it ends up like last season should we get so cutthroat.
And the second note- not true. Row, Nolan, and I played on the big TV with no noticeable lag. That’s a symptom of older high-def and other big, high-quality TVs. Newer models, like Preppy’s, are streamlined for better compatibility with NTSC systems without progressive scan. We could easily run a CVS2 tourney in there, or use it for Super Turbo this time around, while using the room downstairs as a second screen for Marvel. I wouldn’t mind either, as if the former happened, I’d get to play CVS2, but in either case, someone would have to bring an extra camera to capture the matches.
I don’t understand why the people who run tourneys shouldn’t be able to play. No one would wanna run tourneys if they couldn’t participate in any other tourneys going on.
I have to agree with you. When I was playing Rat and Row on the big screen, I saw no lag what so ever.
That makes no sense because why build something if you can’t play it.
You really shouldn’t be tryin to post up when you’re faded. How are you going to say that ppl running tournaments shouldn’t be in the tournaments themselves, when you were running tournaments and being in them as well?
and as far as the whole wasting time at TGIFridays, I can assure to you that there was no time wasted. People shouldn’t get mad at the fact that people want to get together and do shit before zach’s house, at least for those that are going out to eat before going to Zach’s you can rest assure that those niggas ain’t the ones droppin food and shit all over Zach’s carpet.
As far as the house being ripe if we have 3 tournaments running at the same time, that’s easily solved with soap and water.
water water water water water water water water water water water water water water water water. / dj assuault.
and as far as the having tournaments at 2am, if we were to throw CvS2 in there that tournament wouldn’t be over till 8am in the morning, hell that’s probalby just the winners bracket. I think there’s one thing that ppl might be forgetting about this whole Zach’s house thing, and that is it’s being held at a Zach’s house. I’ve noticed over the past few months that ppl have been disrespecting shit left and right there, from leaving their trash all over the place, to spililng food on his carpet, and the drinking which almost lead to some altercations one night. I have to give it up to Zach because if that shit was going down in my house that shit would’ve been done and over. It just seems that some people are over stepping Zach’s hospitality at times.
Now as far as time constraints go, we all know that CvS2 takes longer than marvel and ST combined. Which is why i mentioned that if Zach can get his CvS2 board working we should have the tournament start upstairs on the cabinet. Then as Marvel and ST finish up move down to the TV’s and run with it from there. I truly believe that we can pull off 3 tournaments in one night, including poker, and if we can’t even do that then there are options (as long as it’s alright with Zach) To start 1 or 2 tournaments earlier (I’m sure if ppl didn’t have a problem showing up to Silver Coin at noon on a saturday, they won’t have a problem showing up at zach’s at either 7 or 8, again as long as Zach says it’s ok). And if even then we can’t work it out, I guess we will have to do a rotation of some sorts just to make it happen, the problem with that is it seems that theres an equal amount of interest between all 3 games (ST, MvC2, and CvS2). Yeah I see that there’s talk of having an XvSF or a MotW tournament, but do these games aren’t even offered at Evo unless it’s a BYOC tournament. And with all the talk going around about having Seattle back as a staple in the competitive fighting game community do we really want to spend our time on tournaments for games that aren’t even offered at the big show?
You know i’m not tryin to go crazy here at you or anything, you’re post just seemed to rub me in the wrong direction. Especially since you said you didn’t want to run them anymore, suggestions are great, but it seems like you are tryin to come down with the gavel and organize season 2 before season 2 has even started. So ima say it again, hell this really goes out to everyone on here.
Think twice about posting when you’re faded.
