Final fight was my game. For those of you who don’t know, I’ll write up a quick FF infinite/combo guide.

The original FF, like most Beatemups, had a system where you’d mash on the attack button and a canned string of attacks came out. In FF it was Jab, Jab, Strong, with the strong being a knockdown. However, in FF, you can jab, jab, turn around, jab, turn back forwards, and Jab, Jab again. The enemy will still be in hitstun from the 2nd jab on the first string, and you won’t go into a knockdown. You can repeat this as long as you feel like before ending the combo. This isn’t always useful, it’s mostly really good against bosses or when you can back yourself into a tight corner to avoid getting hit from another direction.

The only character who doesn’t use this is Haggar, fortunately he uses basically the same button presses but with a different result. Instead of getting the turnaround jab, though, he gets jab, jab, backdrop. This is useful for two reasons. 1. Haggar gets invincibility during the backdrop, and 2. It knocks down any enemies in a pretty wide radius behind him. So basically your goal is to get a few enemies in front of you and loop jab, jab, backdrop to keep enemies off your back. Against bosses/single enemies though just go for throws, it’s easy enough and the piledriver does awesome damage.

I’m not sure what you mean by bar, but Golden Axe III allows you to block. As does Super Double Dragon, if I recall correctly.

By the way, here’s some vids of SoR2 being 1CC’d with Blaze on Mania http://www.youtube.com/user/zappazero2

Incredibly impressive - not only does he make the 1CC but he counter stops the game!

Really awesome skills but it is a tool assisted run.

I can’t see any proof of this - but apologies if it is.

I think it may be as well. I used to have a video of a Max replay that was tool assisted, and the guy was pulling all this impossible super risky stuff on reaction like blaze flipping thu the robot lasers perfectly everytime.

wow. that’s amazing. i didn’t know there were so many beat 'em ups.
why make new games when there’s so many old games to remake.
it also makes me feel like there’s absolutely no need to ever put a video on youtube.
everything under the sun seems to be on there already.

if i remember correctly TMNT 1 on NES was more of an adventure game and was hard as hell.
TMNT2 on the nes was the arcade port.

That’s the one I meant. I wouldn’t confuse it for a game of an entirely different genre, lol.

ah yes that is actually a very famous technique. iirc alpha cody had a super called final destruction which was actually a throwback to the infinity combo. in the a-ism version he would punch twice turn back then turn back around and punch twice again repeats for a couple reps until he finishes with his standard FF combo. a pretty strange looking super for those oblivious. lol it would’ve been funny if they paid homage to the stutter combo.

Hey dudes. Let’s talk Golden Axe. It’s pretty much agreed upon that Ax-Battler is the worst character, but there are some who say Gillius is the best and others who say that Tyris is the best.

Personally, I think Gillius is way better. Arguably, Tyris only has two advantages over Gillius: her dashing attack and her magic. OTOH, Gillius is better in everything else. To boot, his dashing attack is pretty darn good too. His reach is awesome, his back attack is the best in the game (i can reach d.adder using that one move alone), and his magic is underrated- he does more damage with his max magic compared to Tyris with the same number of pots. I think it’s pretty obvious that Gillius is #1. But why do some people keep saying Tyris is #1. her reach is shite. any takers?

oh yeah, one more thing. in the genesis version, gillius’s second swing does two hits. meaning he does the most physical damage too

I don’t think Tyris’ dash attack is that much better than Gillius’, it’s just that in GA whoever initiates a dash first will always beat out the other, but a girl character’s dash will always beat a male character’s. Gillius’ running jump attack thing can kill some weak enemies in one hit, too (Can Tyris’?). But yeah Gillius’ back attack is great, I like him the most and he gets used in every superplay I’ve ever seen.

Also I had no idea that the infinite was still in Final Fight 2…

EDIT*
btw Gillius is deffo #1

But why discuss GA1. Its all about Golden Axe, Revenge of Death Adder. That game is just awsome.

Anyone ever tried Final Fight Streetwise? Sure the story mode was kinda shit, but arcade mode is pretty solid IMO. The fighting engine is solid, and the arcade mode characters are all pretty interesting to play. Lots of moves and good combos, and you can block too!

Dungeon Fighter now has its own thread in General Discussion. Seems like quite a few SRK’rs are picking this up:

In the absence of Euro Dungeon Fighter, I’ve had to console myself by playing the shit out of SoR2. Finally just today racked up my first 1-credit completion in Hardest mode (using Blaze).

The first elevator section went fine (on the baseball field), managed to throw one karate dude into all of the others and dealt with them all as one opponent with hadouken and leaping slash.

Next stage was really annoying. Managed to get through the fight involving the two jetpackers (on deck of ship) with very little health remaining, but then managed to get all the way through to the boss and get my health back. Thought I was home and dry but I forgot about the Galcias walking on screen from the left. I unintentionally went into a clinch with one of them, dropped my sword and it either fell off-screen or dissapeared.

Unfortunately, with Blaze, I have a very hard time against the boxer boss. He’s ok on the final stage when he doesnt have his wakeup invincibility, but here he’s very tough, especially as the fat guy usually gets triggered. None of this is a problem when I have the sword and can control the fight. Anyway, so I lost my first life here.

Beach stage looked to be going very badly when I took a licking at the hands of the first ninjas and a couple of thugs sneaking in jabs here and there. Got to the kickboxers with very little health. However, never say never, I defeated the four kickboxers without taking a single hit! All I can say is: no shame in running away when they start throwing tiger knees (no Burn Upper for Blaze). Just kept looking for attacking angles and getting the clinches.

Road section was ok. Right at the end I went right down to virtually no health again, but those bikers have virtually no health so I didnt panic. Throw the whip lady into them and she’ll wipe out three or four at a time.

Next stage I accidentally triggered the two fat guys way earlier than I meant to, having lots of thugs still on screen, but the fight was very interesting. I’ve learnt that when fighting multiple fat guys the best thing is to get them so they are on the very top or bottom of the screen and bait them into attacking with either flamebreath or belly splash.

If one goes for flame and one splash, dodge around both but attack the one who splashed. If both go for flame, just get the hell out of the way. At one point I had fat dudes flame rushing on both the bottom and the top of the screen, but so long as you get out of the way it’s ok.

Lost next life on the two jetpackers. Fights with multiple jetpackers either go very well or very badly for me. These two just kept getting the slam throw, must work on countering that.

The later elevator sections went much better than previously. I’m really getting a handle on those fights now. ALMOST cornered all the karate dudes and ninjas WITH the sword, but got thrown. Gotta use the bikers as projectiles vs those kickboxers. And the fat guys + knife guy are nowhere near as scary as they used to be. Think I lost 3 lives between these fights.

The 3 robots are really annoying. Lost about 2 lives I think.

Anyway, I’ve rambled quite long enough but damn this game just keeps giving. I won’t rest until I’ve one lifed it in Mania… with Blaze!

Scrolling Shmups are great too, like contra, metal slug, gunstar heroes.

Lebowski, you should make some vids with commentary for youtube. It would be interesting to see how the game is played, and your evolving strats.

Check this out guys. AvsP in terrifiying detail, like frame data n shit!!

Ahhh shit. I used to play a lot of AvP. Almost made a combo video, but sorta lost the inspiration. Really, really surprised at the stuff I saw here, because, I was under the impression everyone but Lin sucked, though I was fully aware of how awesome Lin was. Those combo videos that went up cover most of what I was gonna do. I recorded some tricked out 100% combo on Razor Claws, too. Wonder if I still have that replay.

What I didn’t see, was my favorite lil combotech with her, which is a jump-back jumpkick(Backwards jump done without holding the horizontal directional long enough to turn around), which launches her back into them after hitting them for all sorts of silly options. That, and the silly Mash Sworddrop infinite on the stationary queen.

Now I wanna play again =/

haha i have that avp admirer favorited. that guy has whole entire lifes work on that game its crazy

Hey guys, a few questions just because I’m curious:

 1. Which beat 'em up has the largest roster of usable characters?

 2. IYO, which beat 'em up has the single most broken character?

 3. IYO, which beat 'em up contains the greatest variety of usable characters?

My answers:

 1. I believe its Advance Guardian Heroes? Eventually, you can use up to 19 distinct characters.

 2. Not sure on this one.

 3. I really think DnD:SOD’s characters have the most variety. When someone who starts off good with one character decides to switch to another character, it actually takes a long time to get adjusted to the new character’s style.

Any opinions?

Just a heads up guys, Im selling a mint condition Gamest Mook for Dungeons and Dragons, among many, many SF cool guides, books etc here: http://www.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=229454&p=8571345
